Draw and anneal wire rods of various alloys to produce needle wires of a wide range of diameters to exacting quality standards in accordance with applicable specifications.
Process wire rods through preprocessing operation.
Set-up and operate all drawing equipment, perform required quality checks and adjust machines as necessary.
Set-up and operate strand annealing lines, performs quality checks and adjusts lines as necessary.
Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly.
Perform any other work, related in nature, to assure efficient machine operation and maintenance of production schedule.
Perform operator preventative maintenance. Assist craft support as directed by supervisor.
Ensure compliance to GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) as it pertains to daily activities within Ethicon.

A minimum of a High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent required.
A minimum of 1 year of experience working in a GMP manufacturing medical device or pharmaceutical environment is required.
Basic computer skills required.
Basic math skills, with the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, compute percentages and work with decimals and fractions required.
Ability to use Micrometer, tachometer, eye piece magnifiers, and other hand tools preferred.
Knowledge of evaluating tool quality and machine performance, and make machine settings using micrometers, tachometers, and other instruments preferred.
Ability to operate a forklift, overhead crane, Torrington-type swager, a butt welder, etc. preferred.
Must be a certified Forklift Operator or be willing to become certified.
The ability to lift/carry up to 35 pounds unaided is required. Ability to stand and walk 40% of the time required.
This position requires a daily commute to Somerville, NJ Sunday - Thursday for the 3rd shift working hours of 11PM - 7AM with occasional over time as needed by the business.

Machine Tool Operator - Experience In Machine Shop Environment With Multi-Axis Machines.
Description:Someone in this position specializes in operating one or more than one type of machine tool (e.g., jig borer, grinding machine, engine lathe, milling machine) to machine metal for use in making or maintaining jigs, fixtures, cutting tools, gauges, or metal dies or molds used in shaping or forming metal or nonmetallic material (e.g., plastic, plaster, rubber, glass). Work typically involves: planning and performing difficult machining operations which require complicated setups or a high degree of accuracy, setting up machine tool or tools (e.g., installing cutting tools and adjusting guides, stops, working tables, and other controls to handle the size of stock to be machined.
The Machine Tool Operator determines proper feeds, speeds, tooling, and operation sequence or selects those prescribed in drawings, blueprints, or layouts). Work also involves using a variety of precision measuring instruments, making necessary adjustments during machining operation to achieve requisite dimensions to very close tolerances. This worker may be required to select proper coolants and cutting and lubricating oils to recognize when tools need dressing, and to dress tools. In general, the work of a Machine-Tool Operator (Tool room) at the skill level called for in this classification, requires extensive knowledge of machine shop and tool room practice usually acquired though considerable on-the-job training and experience.

JOB PURPOSE & SUMMARY OF POSITION
The tube technician is responsible to manufacture Nitinol Tube in compliance with Johnson Matthey business practices. The individual must have the ability to arrive at work on time, follow all JM business rules which include but are not limited to Health and Safety, Code of ethics, JM Values, San Jose site specific EH&S and QMS procedures. The individual reports to Tubing Lead/ Tubing Supervisor.
Follow JM safety principles and contribute to behavioral safety. The use of Personal Protective Equipment as well as the use of applicable machine guarding is a primary responsibility of a tube technician.
Participate in activities such as behavioral safety programs, safety stand down, department tail gate meetings, etc. that may result in continual improvement, mitigating risks hazards in the production of Nitinol tube.
Responsible for manufacturing of the Nitinol tube using various equipment, such as draw benches, bull blocks, pedestal grinders, annealing furnaces, pointers, mandrel insertion station, centerless grinder, swaggers etc.
Tubing technician must be able to use measurement devices, such as laser micrometers, calipers, rulers for dimensions and microscopes for visual inspection.
Accurate completion of documentation such as travelers, records, forms as required to manufacture tube.
Other duties may be assigned.
The employee will be working in areas with high levels of noise, in addition to oils, grease, solvents, metal shavings, and grinding debris. The temperature is generally average, but can vary depends on weather.
Will be expected to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, with additional hours worked as dictated by production demand.
Maintains work area in a clean, orderly, and safe condition including organization of tools and supplies.
May be assigned to work with chemicals and hazardous wastes. Specialized training will be provided as needed.
May be asked to perform preventive maintenance on equipment. Training will be provided.
The employee stands or walks 7 hours or more in a given day. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
