Assistant Unit Operator Will Accept Assistant Unit Operator Apprentice
Under the general supervision or the direction of the Unit Operator, and on a rotating shift basis, this classification is responsible for the safe, efficient, and proper operation of all equipment not controlled remotely from the control room associated with the respective generating units. This classification makes periodic inspections of all plant equipment and investigates trouble and troubleshoots problems.
Equipment includes boilers and their auxiliaries, turbines and their auxiliaries, generators and their auxiliaries, water wheels, and all other plant equipment. This classification is qualified to perform the duties of the Unit Operator and may fill in for this position during the absence of the Unit Operator. Performs minor maintenance as assigned.
Typical Duties
Performs work in a safe manner. Complies with all safety rules, regulations and procedures. Performs all work that they are qualified and trained to do in a manner that protects themselves, their fellow employees and the public from injury.
Properly relieves the previous shift, including checking for special orders, operating conditions, data sheets, alarm panels/points and the general condition of the equipment as indicated by instruments or computer logs. Notifies the plant supervisor, or Unit Operator, of critical or abnormal operating conditions.
Makes periodic inspections of equipment located in the plant as necessary or as directed to assure safe, efficient and economical operation. Work performed includes: taking readings from indicating devices, checking and lubricating equipment, adjusting packing, checking oil pressure and temperatures, cleaning strainers, performs vibration monitoring, and checking oil flows.
Equipment includes, but not limited to, forced draft fans, induced draft fans, primary air fans, seal air fans, soot blowing equipment, air compressors, boiler feed pumps, boiler feed pump turbines, circulating water pumps, hotwell pumps, evactors, condensers, transformers, cooling water pumps, bearing water pumps, turbine oil pumps, heater drip pumps, ash sluice pumps, hydrogen equipment, stator cooling water equipment, CO2 equipment, pulverizers, boilers, turbines, generators, and switchgear. Performs tests on equipment as directed. Puts demineralizers, water softeners, water filters, and condensate polishers in and out of service as directed.
Operates electrostatic precipitators and fly ash removal systems. Operates ash removal systems. Operates all equipment in the screen houses.
Backwashes condensers as necessary. Regulates boiler blowdown as necessary.Inspects boilers and burners for proper operation. Walks the boiler on a regular basis checking for the normal operation of all associated equipment.
Hand lances boilers as necessary. Regenerates demineralizers, sodium cycle softeners, and other water treatment equipment as directed. Fills chemical feeders and operates feeders to inject proper chemical into the plant water system as directed.
Obtains water and oil samples as required. Operates all other plant equipment as directed.Reads and records data as assigned. Maintains a chronological record of data concerning equipment, either manually or through use of the plant computer system.
Maintains proper oil levels. Minor oil changes as required. Lubricates equipment.
Changes shear pins on traveling screens, clean and unplugs drain lines, sluice lines, and pyrite lines by removing access covers to rod or blow out. May initiate work requests.Isolates equipment as required. May perform switching operations as directed.
While on shift cleans equipment and floors in the plant area. May perform cleanup duties and assist plant maintenance groups when not operating. Operates all fire protection systems as necessary.
May operate diesel generators and combustion turbines from outside the control room.
Leads, trains and instructs other employees in their work.

Position Summary:
The PBX Operator responds to incoming calls in a timely manner and directs caller to appropriate destination providing a smooth, clear and professionally courteous communication practice.

Performs overhead paging.

Orients and mentors new staff members.

The qualified candidate will split time working ashore in Southern California and worldwide at-sea aboard commercial work boats. Candidates for this position are expected to contribute to this broad technical depth with good problem-solving skills and hands-on workmanship abilities. Ashore duties will focus on equipment maintenance and upgrades and operational qualifications and training. At-sea duties will focus on equipment readiness and operations in a high tempo environment.
The Field Operator must be able to work collaboratively in small, technically focused teams; prioritize and adjust tasks simultaneously to accomplish the project result; determine priorities to achieve the required goal on short and long term basis, and make decisions that have an impact on the organization's credibility, operations, and services.

Basic Qualifications:

Five years of hands-on experience operating and maintaining marine systems, such as remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), or diving systems
Ability to work at-sea aboard a commercial vessel. Each at-sea assignment will typically last 45-60 days and employees are generally expected to support at least two at-sea assignments per calendar year. Annual physical exams are required to verify fitness for sea duty.

STATEMENT OF JOB
The Boiler Operator operates 400 hsp boiler to generate heating and processing steam, sampling and testing water from the boiler and boiler feed lines, making manual adjustments of valves to correct steam pressure, fuel-air ratio and regulating water entering the boiler house and manufacturing areas. Maintains daily log on test results, regenerates Zeolite water softeners, performs emergency minor repairs and blows down boilers daily. Operates Murray boiler when Keeler boiler is down for maintenance by monitoring charts and switching fuel supply from gas to propane as directed. Monitors, controls and assures proper chemical supply in waste water treatment plant.
ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH, AND SAFETY OBLIGATIONS

QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 18 years of age and have a HS Diploma or equivalent. Must be able to read and follow written and oral instructions. Must have good mechanical ability, be able to climb, work in elevated levels and awkward positions and must be able to lift average to heavy weights. Boiler/pressure vessel certification(s) a plus.
DUTIES
1.Collects water samples (2) from the boiler and boiler feed line and performs routine tests by observing points or color changes as solutions are mixed and added. Tests are performed to determine alkalinity, total dissolved solids and phosphates. Results are recorded on Water Analysis sheets. Water is treated so as to bring it within prescribed limits for water softness.
2.Prepares Boiler Plant summary sheet, performance log and makes calculations such as efficiency and evaporation rate according to established formulas. Prepares daily Industrial Discharge data sheet.
3.Regenerates Zeolite water softeners by back washing filters, preparing salt brine, according to established procedures.
4.Operates boiler by performing a variety of operations such as manipulating valves that control steam used in production, checking items such as water and air temperature, and recording on Data Sheets.
5.Performs emergency minor repairs on pumps such as tightening, packing.
6.Daily backwashes filter.
7.During power failures, notifies production areas when there will be steam interruption if anticipated.
8.Insures proper operation of waste control equipment by checking caustic and acid pumps to insure their operation, checking caustic and acid tank levels and line to locate leaks. Places sample jug at pumping house outlet daily to collect sample for testing.
9.Monitors waste control panel by reading outlet and inlet pH monitors. Caustic and acid barrels level indicators and caustic tank temperature, and insures automatic equipment is operating. Also monitors outfall lift pumps, including determining exceptions to prescribed limits of outfall.
10. Repairs or troubleshoots pollution equipment or calls in Maintenance or Waste Control personnel for assistance.
11. Contacts natural gas and fuel suppliers for procurement in the event of fuel interruption.
12. Charges lime softener by filling tank with water and lime and other chemical daily.
13. Takes sludge sample from Graver Tank and determines % of sludge in boiler feed water daily.
14. Performs safety inspections to insure safe boiler operation by such activities as manually lifting the high pressure relief valves and low water cut out switch by lowering the water level in the boiler.
15. Assist boiler relief operator during boiler inspection and preparation.
16. In the event of fuel interruption, have the ability and training to change over the fuel requirement.
17. Performs housekeeping and related duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.
