Drill Press /Utility- Weekend Shift
The basic function of the Utility Operator is to set up and operate drill press, hand punch, rollers, punch press, timesaver, fladder, floppy wheel, shear and other special purpose machines to fabricate or deburr metallic and non-metallic parts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Set up and operate machines listed above.
Fabricate and/or modify parts to meet customer requirements.
Study blueprints, supplemental drawings, specifications, or in some cases, a sample part, to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting or punching tools, attachments, and accessories needed to perform required functions on machines.
Calculate and set controls to regulate repeatability of processes.
Observe machine operation to detect malfunctions and adjust machine controls as required.
Verify conformance of finished work pieces to specifications and blue prints by use of appropriate measuring devices.
Accurately fill out work order routers with correct quantity of good parts and scrap parts.
Communicate and confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve any problems that may arise.
Create the best product possible with no defects to help maintain a high standard of quality.
Education and/or Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Preferred: Six months to one year related experience and/or training

Serves as a Drill Rig Operator (MVO) WG-5729-08 working closely with a higher graded operator to develop skills, knowledge, and experience to achieve the competence level of a journeyman drill rig operator.
Safely operates all vehicles necessary for the accomplishment of any drilling assignment in both on-road and off-road situations. Many of these vehicles require a commercial driver's license (CDL) to be operated.
Occasionally operates specialty equipment such as a forklift or tractor mounted backhoe in day-to-day activities. Assists with or safely operates widely varying types of drill rigs.

Physical Effort: Work is primarily performed in the field requiring good physical strength and stamina. Work on HTRW sites requires the wearing of protective gear against possible exposure to chemical hazards. Use of specified personal protective equipment is mandatory. Work is conducted in the field up to 90% of the time. Works outside in all types of weather, frequently in wet, muddy, very cold or hot, and dirty condition, exposed to poison growth, reptiles, and insects and under noisy conditions. May perform drilling operations over water. Grease, oil, and other lubricants as well as fuels are present during operation, maintenance and repair of equipment and accessories. The employee may be exposed to a
variety of health and safety hazards requiring the use of protective equipment and clothing such as respirators, safety glasses, shoes, hats, body suits, and harnesses. The employee may carry/wear equipment (i.e., air tanks, etc.) up to 50 lbs. in weight.
