AMI is seeking an experienced Boring Bar Operator with a desire to apply thier knowledge and work as a team with in a clean and safe environment. A successful candidate will be responsible for operating manufacturing equipment in accordance with plant policies and procedures while ensuring a smooth operation.
Independently operate a Kuraki horizontal boring bar milling machine in a precision metal cutting environment
Set up new fixtures and change overs for parts using dial indicators
Perform inspections using precision measuring equipment and verifying conformance of parts
Read, interpret blueprints, job orders, tooling instructions and customer specifications invovling dimensions and tolerances
Deburring machined parts
Adjusting tooling in machine program using G & M codes and the ability to write G & M codes
Set up, maintain, and change all associated tooling and set TLO's and utilization of tools associated with fixtures and programming
Make adjustments based off of inspection reports and measurements
Hand loading tools as programs require
Complete change over using dial indicators and edge finders and making minor offset adjustments
Identify continuous improvement opportunities to reduce cost and improve product quality and machine efficiency
Complete and maintain appropriate documentation records, creating tool and set up sheets for programs
Maintain a clean and safe work environment
Comply with all OSHA regulations, report safety issues and use proper PPE and safe procedures in overhead crane operation
Work independently within timed deadlines
Effectively work with Engineering dept. to prove out new programs and parts, adjusting programs when needed
Program, write and edit own programs using Feature Cam
Associate degree or higher in CNC machining or like field and a minimum of 5-10 years experience in an industrial CNC machining environment operating and setting up vertical and horizontal milling machines with fixtures and tooling
Experience in set up and operation of a Boring Bar Horizontal Milling Machine (Kuraki preferred)
Proficient blueprint reading and interpretation skills
Proficient math skills specifically with fractions and decimals
High mechanical aplitude and good physical dexterity
Proficient in using inspection equipment to confirm part quality and cutting and adjusting bores to blueprint specs
Attention to detail
Proficiency in understanding and writing G & M code in Metric and English

HBM Horizontal Boring Machinist
Sets-up and operates special purpose equipment, conventional (lathe and/or mill), and/or numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers for fabrication of metallic and nonmetallic parts that hold to the high quality machine standards required within the organization. Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations and setup requirements. Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls as required. MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:
Performs work involved in the manufacture of forgings, and other fabrications, through the use of machine tools and precision handwork.
Sets up and operates most types of conventional machine tools such as lathes, vertical and Horizontal boring mills; bench, plain or universal milling machines; shapers; internal and external grinders; thread grinders; and radial drills.
Frequently uses a variety of auxiliary machine tool attachments such as rotary vises, dividing heads; taper attachments, magnetic chucks, vertical milling heads, tapping attachments, rotary tables, etc.
Lays out work from blueprints, sketches, work orders, model of part or tool to be made, or other specifications; determines which machine tool would best be used for each operation to be performed, which attachments are to be used on each machine, and the proper sequence of operations on each machine; and makes new job setups on a variety of different types of equipment involving accurate alignment in order to maintain specified overall tolerances.
Determines speeds, feeds, and coolants, lubricants or abrasives to be used to cut, turn, drill, mill, bore, tap, ream, lap, hone, shape, grinding, or finish item.
Maintains dimensional accuracy during these processes through the use of precision measuring instruments such as veneer calipers, inside and outside micrometers, surface gages, height gages, squares, and dial indicators.
Uses shop mathematics and handbook formulas in computing dimensions and in planning and laying out work.
Maintains bench stock needed for machine shop, as appropriate.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:
Lathes, vertical and horizontal boring mills; bench, plain or universal milling machines; shapers; planers; internal and external grinders; thread grinders; and radial drills.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
Work is generally conducted in a shop environment. However, duties may involve working in the out-of-doors area with a potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions.
Work will require lifting up to 50 lbs; stooping; climbing; prolonged standing; prolonged sitting.. Employee use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required is certain areas. Such PPE includes but is not limited to head, foot, hand, torso, respiratory, vision and hearing protective devices. May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty including nights, weekends, and holidays. Must comply with published Company work rules.
