An entry-level Electric Meter Setter works as a trainee under close supervision assisting journey-level Electric Meter Setters in the performance of their duties. Trainees receive extensive classroom training as well as on-the-job training. A journey-level Electric Meter Setter installs, changes and removes a large variety of electric meters and metering equipment on the premises of industrial, commercial and domestic consumers, and performs related work.
One year of full-time paid experience as a helper in an electrical trade; or
Completion of eight months as a Utility Pre-Craft Trainee (UPCT) with the LADWP performing duties as a helper in an electrical trade.
All entry-level positions in this class are temporary training positions as defined in Civil Service Commission Rule 5.30. An Electric Meter Setter must successfully complete an extensive on-the-job and classroom training program within eighteen months in order to receive an appointment to a regular Electric Meter Setter position.
For applicants filing under Requirement #1, successful completion of the LADWP approved Hayden or Delmar's electricity course(s) may be substituted for six months of full-time paid experience.
Applicants filing under Requirement #2 who lack two months or less of the required experience may file for this examination. However, they cannot be appointed until the full experience requirement is met.
Applicants filing under Requirement #2 must submit a "Verification of Work Experience" (VWE) form with the required signatures, verifying their experience as a helper in an electrical trade. Examination Weight: Multiple-Choice Test -100%
The examination will consist entirely of a weighted multiple-choice test administered and proctored on-line. In the on-line multiple-choice test, the following competencies may be evaluated: basic electrical theory pertaining to voltage, current and watts; basic safety principles and practices such as procedures for working near energized lines or equipment, and use of protective clothing and equipment; elementary mechanics sufficient to safely handle and place materials and equipment so that they are balanced and stable; mathematics sufficient to calculate current-voltage relationships; safe driving practices and principles; the ability to identify voltage classifications; use and care for hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment; read and interpret materials such as instructions, work orders, maintenance manuals, codes, standards, diagrams, plans, schematics, and street maps; follow directions; fill out forms and write notes; deal tactfully and effectively with City employees and the public; and other necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
The multiple-choice test will be proctored and administered on-line during a single session. Candidates invited to participate in the on-line multiple-choice test will be able to take the test from a remote location using a computer with a webcam and a reliable internet connection. Candidates will receive an e-mail from the City of Los Angeles outlining the dates and specific steps on how to take the multiple-choice test on-line. It is anticipated that the remote proctored multiple-choice test will be administered between MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2019 AND MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2019. Candidates who do not complete and submit the multiple-choice test on-line using a computer by the specified date and time stated on the notice they receive will not be considered further in this examination. Additional test dates may be added as needed.

Meter Technician Intern I
Must be knowledgeable of and follow all safety rules, procedures and practices. Keep all equipment, tools, materials and work areas in a clean and orderly condition, reporting to supervision any damaged or defective equipment or conditions which may cause damage or injury.
Compile information and generate reports, forms and documents as required. Be willing to work inside and outside under varying weather conditions. Learn to adjust and test single phase meters in the meter shop.

Meter Servicer - Meter Specialist
Under supervision, perform work pertaining to disconnecting, reconnecting, removing, installing and testing single-phase and three-phase kilowatt-hour and demand meters up to 260 volts; work delinquent accounts; read meters; investigate irregular readings, energy diversion, and inactive usage; contact customers, test, inspect, maintain, service, pack and transport measurement equipment and other equipment as assigned, and perform associated duties.
Essential Job Functions:
NOTE: Individuals must be able to perform all duties of Meter Servicer to be considered for entry into job as Meter Specialist.
1.) Disconnect and reconnect electrical service to customer, as directed, by removal or installation of single and three-phase kilowatt-hour meters or combination demand meters not to exceed 260 volts, for service orders, credit action, inactive usage, or as otherwise directed.
2.) Install, remove, connect, and disconnect all self-contained single-phase and three phase meters and services and repair such installations.
3.) Remove, install, change out or test single and three-phase kilowatt-hour or demand meters to provide or maintain service to the customer.
4.) Assist in the investigation of energy diversion. Appear in court hearings as needed.
5.) Initiate investigation orders relating to customer service and bill information. Prepare service applications and discontinuance orders in field as necessary.
6.) Read billing meters as may be assigned.
7.) Perform other duties as assigned.
8.) Perform similar or less skilled work as assigned.
Meter Technician I
Installs and repairs residential and commercial water meters within the guidelines of work orders and Augusta-Richmond County and department rules and procedures or any other duties as assigned. Reports to the Small Meter Maintenance Supervisor or other designated person and works with co-workers and the public to provide operational support. Performs all other duties as assigned. THIS POSITION REQUIRES EVENING, WEEKEND, AND OVERTIME HOURS. THIS POSITION ALSO REQUIRES WORK IN ALL TYPES OF WEATHER CONDITIONS.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Installs small meters 5/8" to 1 ½" and replaces broken meter boxes and tops; also resets boxes. Completes daily work order sheets.
Installs & repairs remote reading equipment and repairs meter leaks. Investigates complaints of meter problems.
Replaces curb stops and valves under active water pressure.
Maintains vehicle and equipment
After approximately 6 months, must be able to perform on-call duty on an as-needed basis.
Locates and uncovers water meters and checks water pressure.
Education: High school diploma or GED
Experience: One (1) year of customer service experience, preferably in public works such as water service utility, and/or one (1) year of work experience in a position requiring mechanical skills.
Basic customer service knowledge.
Minimum knowledge of mechanical devices.
Demonstrated ability to work independently
Experience using standard tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, shovels, etc.) and devices to lock and block meters, operating a motor vehicle and a two-way radio
Ability to interact with the public calmly and clearly if called upon to discuss problems at the location.
Ability to adapt to the policies of Augusta, Georgia which govern the use of its fleet vehicles and equipment
Ability to work with laptop computer & computer technology/radio reading devices
Capable of learning to install and repair water meters
- Possession of a valid driver's license with good driving history. If State license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment.
This position requires driving a county vehicle.

Meter Reader - Limited Duration
The Eugene Water & Electric Board is seeking two (2) Limited Duration Meter Readers to provide excellent service to our customers.
The successful candidates will:
Read residential and commercial electric water meters and enter readings into a handheld reading device with a mandatory accuracy rate of 99.96%. This position requires the ability to walk up to 15 miles per day in all weather conditions.
Observe and report defective and damaged meters, unauthorized connections, broken seals, inaccessible meters and hazardous conditions; ensure proper functioning of meters.
Complete daily review of meter reading validity, creating rereads and other possible meter related problem service orders.
Provide quality assurance for customer billings, including accuracy and timeliness of billing statements.
Resolve customer complaints regarding high bills as well as customer concerns about meter reader behaviors. Interact with other utility departments to ensure consistency in interactions with customers.
Limited Duration assignments are for a minimum of six months and can last up to three years. Limited Duration employees receive full EWEB benefits.

As a Meter Technician you will repair, test, and calibrate all types and classes of Single Phase and non-IDR (interval data recording) Polyphase Meters in our Meter Acceptance Shop. You will also inspect internal/external connections and test for continuity and grounds.
Inspects/validates mechanical, electrical, electronic, and communication components.
Cleans, reconditions, repairs, or replaces defective parts.
Verifies register ratios and meter constants.
Using test instruments, performs testing and evaluation of associated metering equipment and load survey devices.
