How you will make an impact
The Electrical Engineer will work with internal and external hardware and firmware resources to evaluate, choose and qualify parts and their related tool environments that will be essential in the design of future versions of our product. You will support the engineering team through electronic design and debug, implementation, and involvement in system development and planning.
A day in the life
Design, build, bring-up and test prototype and production level PCBAs.
Ensure PCBAs are designed, produced and documented in line with established methodology, standards and procedures and support the formal release of work products (specifications, designs) into use.
Perform system integration and debug (requiring a working knowledge of FW and MCU development tools)
Assist with early requirements definition; translate product requirements into detailed hardware requirements.
Optimize designs for cost (through component selection, etc.) and ease of manufacturing and assembly.
Select and qualify components and designs based on specification analysis, component availability, reliability and power consumption.
Lead product development and assist in production troubleshooting efforts.
Work with cross-functional engineering team including mechanical, firmware, software, manufacturing, and quality and program management.
Minimum of B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
At least 5 years of total work experience; minimum of 4 years of relevant experience is required.
Experience with PCB layout tool (e.g., Altium) and PCB debug.
Microcontroller design experience.
Embedded system design experience.
FPGA/VHDL/Verilog is considered a plus.
Comfortable working with little/no supervision.
Attention to detail with focus on robustness, scalability and quality of products.
Experience working with low power design, Bluetooth low energy, RF design are all considered a plus.
This position is located within the Engineering Service at the VA Medical Center in Shreveport, LA and serves as the Electrical Engineer for the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center (OBVAMC), which covers 40+/- acres and approximately 720,000 gross building square footage and has three Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) locations, Longview and Texarkana Texas, and Monroe Louisiana. This position works under the direct supervision of the Project Section Supervisor and supports the main facility in Shreveport and the three CBOC's. The Electrical Engineer is responsible for electrical system design, maintenance, repair, and provides operation specifications and reports for all electrical components of the physical plant at the OBVAMC.

Degree (bachelor's or higher) in engineering. Combination of education, experience and/or training
Professional Registration or Licensure: Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Absent other means of qualifying under this standard, those applicants who achieved such registration by means other than written test (e.g., State grandfather or eminence provisions) are eligible only for positions that are within or closely related to the specialty field of their registration. For example, an applicant who attains registration through a State Board's eminence provision as a manufacturing engineer typically would be rated eligible only for manufacturing engineering positions. Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico. Documentation must be provided. OR
Specified Academic Courses
Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described above in number 1. Transcripts required. OR
Successful completion of curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided you have had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions. In addition to meeting at least one of the basic requirements above, you must also meet one of the following to qualify at the GS-11 level:
Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-9) in Federal service that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of an Electrical Engineer GS-11. The professional engineering experience required is defined as non-routine engineering work that required and was characterized by (1) professional knowledge of engineering; (2) professional ability to apply such knowledge to engineering problems; and (3) positive and continuing development of professional knowledge and ability. Such engineering experience includes: performing work associated with planning, design, construction and maintenance of facilities or structures; designing, developing, and redesigning electrical systems and equipment; developing and reviewing electrical designs, drawings and specifications for facilities such as hospitals, medical clinics, power/steam generation/distribution; preparing correspondence, technical reports, estimates, fact sheets, status reports and schedules as required to complete engineering project assignments; producing contract drawings, schedules, schematics and other pertinent construction documents. NOTE: Your experience must be fully documented in your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week.
Education: Successful completed three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree in engineering or equivalent doctoral degree. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While much of the work is accomplished in an office, there is a considerable amount of walking, stooping, climbing, crawling, and stretching required during site visits, inspections, and maintenance procedures.
Emergency actions during response to (and training for) fire and disaster situations will require considerable physical exertion over long periods of time. Incumbent must have the ability to read printed material the size of a typewriter character; ability to hear conversational voice, and ability to move material weighing up to 60 pounds. About the Position
Lead and maintain equipment so that it complies with all safety, environmental and other regulatory compliances. Track and identify engineering expenses and capital budgeting compliance. Ensure the proper design, installation, modification and maintainability of new and existing plant equipment, buildings and facilities. Provide the necessary engineering and maintenance support to the production organization to promote the production of the highest quality product at the lowest possible cost.

Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
Minimum of 4 years' experience working with multidisciplinary engineering and maintenance associates to achieve cost effective goals.
Equipment design experience and project engineering or project management role is preferred.

Responsible for the design, development, manufacture and testing of Alternating Current Induction Electric Motors/Generators for submerged cryogenic pump and expander applications on time and on budget in accordance with engineering practices utilized by the Division. Also, responsible for reviewing project specifications and supporting project related requirements for the selection of variable frequency drive systems if required by the project in accordance with applicable electrical design codes.
Travel: Will require short term stay in Reno, NV for training and travel to Reno as needed.
Will work independently to perform any engineering assignment including complex problems/assignments and complete almost any task with minimal to no guidance.
Responsible for the design and approval of electric motors for project specific requirements. This includes motor design development specific to project requirements, material requirements, BOM's, Test plans and QA requirements.
Support project engineering group wtih motor application information for specific applications. This application information will be either a new design, existing design, motor sizing, etc.
Suppor the project engineering, application engineering and AMS departments on day to day project, application and aftermarket questions. This will entail verification of performance, application, industry standards, component drawings,etc.
Take ownership of on time and budget deliverables produced & their quality.
Participate in project technical clarification meetings as necessary including customer meetings at site which may require domestic and international travels based on project requirements.
Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other disciplines within the company, vendors and the customer as required to close out all pending contractual matters per approved Engineering Department procedures.
Supervision and coordination during preparation of manufacturing drawings, bill of materials and documents per approved Engineering Department procedure in MRP system.
Issuance of test procedures and manuals as necessary to ensure correct testing and operation of equipment specified by Engineering Department per approved Engineering Department procedures.
Supervision of assembly and operation of the equipment to ensure correctness and suitability of design together with updating of Engineering documents to reflect "As Built" condition.
Supervise prototype production assembly projects as needed.
Provide support to project engineers, application engineers, field service engineers, customers, vendors, chain management and engineering management.
Preparation and submittal of customer engineering documentations per approved Engineering Department Procedures thru utilizing internal ERP System.
Apply engineering knowledge and sound engineering practices to troubleshoot assembly, manufacturing and testing problems. Provides technical guidance and direction to other engineers, designers, drafters, test and shop personnel.

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)
Minimum 3 years direct engineering experience in execution of AC induction form and random wound motor/generator design, manufacture and testing with no supervision. Able to demonstrate relevant design and customer experience with details.
Working knowledge of low and medium voltage electrical systems (120V up to 15kV) including DOL, Soft Starter and VFD operation.
Direct experience and understanding of applicable Codes & Standards such as IEEE(IEEE 43, 95, 112, 118, 522), NEMA MG-1, and ISO
Basic understanding of thermal and fluid dynamics to aid in temperature control of the product
Direct experience with MagneForce Simulation Suite or equivalent and Induction Motor Design Tool
Basic Mechanical Engineering understanding on stress analysis, experience on Finite Element Analysis and Solid Works
