Electrical Engineer - Bridge Engineer 6 - Washington State Ferries
Effective July 1, 2019 the Bridge Engineer 6 classification will receive a 7.5% pay increase to total base salary of $7,139 to $9,600 per month.
In addition to the base salary, effective July 1, 2019 this position will receive a 3% general wage increase.
In addition to the base salary positions located in King County are eligible for a 5% premium in addition to the base salary,
The Washington State Department of Transportation Ferries Division (WSF) has a unique opportunity for an experienced Electrical Bridge Engineer 6 to support the electrical systems for the Terminal Engineering group. The ideal candidate will hold a Professional Engineer license and serve as the subject matter expert providing design of electrical and control system in support of engineering projects.
This position will design power distribution, lighting, and electrical movable bridge systems, perform electrical inspections and do PLC programming; provide electrical support for construction projects; and provide maintenance support to keep existing terminals operational. This position supports the safety and sustained system reliability of ferry operations by ensuring fail safe and reliable electrical system designs for terminals and providing expert system knowledge to minimize system down time in the event of failures. This position ensures the security of ferry terminal operations by providing designs for the terminal security systems.
The successful candidate will have in-depth working and design knowledge of electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, security, machinery controls, communications, and PLC programming.

Depending on the specific assignment, the position will perform the following work:
Work as a Registered Professional Engineer, Electrical performing professional level bridge engineering tasks.
Work as a senior lead engineer and project manager for movable bridges and electrical engineering duties throughout the WSF; perform quality assurance reviews for ferry terminal and movable bridge projects.
Perform detailed electrical and control system designs of movable bridges, and other fixed bridges as they attach to movable bridges; provide detailed technical direction to subordinate engineers doing the same.
Manage multiple bridge projects from concept to completion providing preliminary designs and final technical review of projects.
Receive and implement engineering direction from department supervisor.
Supervise consultant engineers for projects and department administration.
Provide detailed technical direction for the preparation of Contract documents.
Develop drawings and design details for ferry terminal electrical systems.
Work independently on all projects. Interact effectively within, and coordinate with a design team as part of a larger project.
Communicate effectively in both written and oral forms.
Utilize electrical engineering software and write design worksheets utilizing spreadsheet software.
Respond to problems arising from construction projects.
Inspect existing terminals and determine need for repairs and maintenance. Prepare reports summarizing facility conditions and recommending necessary work.
Review and approve contractor shop drawings and other contractor submittals.
Perform other related duties and respond to emergencies as required.
An ideal candidate for this position will have the following qualifications:
Bachelor degree of Science in Electrical Engineering.
Registration as a Profession Engineer, Electrical in the state of Washington. - (REQUIRED)
Valid Driver's License
Working knowledge of the following:
Power Distribution Systems (480 Volts, 3 phase systems and Shore Power Isolation systems).
Shore power system design for large vessels, movable bridges, terminal buildings and toll booths.
Electrical system design for marine environments.

Microstation CAD program.
Ability to do the following:

This staff augmentation position will support our client with an effort to replace tunnel ventilation fan shaft system components (motor starters, transfer switches, junction boxes, etc.).
Completes design and drawings for tunnel fan supporting infrastructure.
Design and development of power distribution systems for medium and low voltage systems.
Calculate electrical device and circuit sizing, and site lighting designs.
Provides technical consultations for interdisciplinary analytical studies and analyses.
Ensures compliance of design with all applicable codes and regulations.
Conducts surveys, studies, and site investigations.
Helps determine budget estimates and staffing requirements for the defined scope and schedule. May assist with other administrative and technical duties.
Recommends and prepares technical papers.appropriate.
4-year degree in Engineering (or related field) and 10-12 years of related work experience.
Professional Engineer registration may be required.
Extensive experience in electrical engineering design with AutoCAD proficiency. -Experience in scope of work and specification development.
Extensive knowledge of NFPA 70, 70B, 130 and ANSI/NETA MTS-2015.)
Potential to perform in a lead capacity, excellent written and oral communications skills, and a familiarity of industry practices and regulations are required.
