The Principal Component Engineer will report into the HARMAN Best Cost Analytics organization and will be responsible for the development and delivery of "should be" cost models covering HARMAN's Automotive Electronic Systems including amplifier, infotainment and telematics products. The developed cost models will establish Design-to-Cost targets that will be utilized by HARMAN teams including Engineering and Procurement.
Utilize internal and external databases to build cost models that will establish Design-to-Cost targets for HARMAN Automotive products
Define the HARMAN "best practice" cost reference for the following electronic systems to a component level:
Infotainment Systems with and without Displays
Telematics Control Units (TCU)
Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS)
Car Audio Amplifiers Systems
Analyze cost breakdowns from supplier quotes and understand all cost influent factors
Lead the technical definition and implementation of electronic system cost modeling solutions, including the identification of analytics that enables trend data to be established
Develop close technical relationships with suppliers to identify best cost solutions, including emerging technologies that provide cost improvements
Work with Engineering & Product Sourcing teams during the new business quoting phase to establish reference cost targets
Support Procurement teams during negotiating events with target costing
Utilize cost models and associated data to train HARMAN teams on Design-to-Cost best practices based on developed cost models
Bachelor's degree in engineering
Minimum 10 yrs work experience in the following areas:
Cost engineering of electronic systems
VA/VE of electronic systems
Design & development of electronic systems
Electronic system component engineering
Experience with complex semiconductor components including applications processors (System-on-Chip devices), micro-controllers, memory devices, tuners as well as wired and wireless networking devices
Proven technical leadership with demonstrated ability to lead and review the work of other cost engineers
Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical topics through structure solutions. Must be able to influence others to drive alignment on proposed technical solutions.
Excellent presentation skills and demonstrated ability to effectively present complex technical topics
Experience working in a fast-paced, highly measured, results-focused environment
Master's degree in electrical engineering
Experience with automotive electronics is highly desirable, including experience selecting and/or recommending automotive grade electronic components
Demonstrated ability to breakdown semiconductors component costs into the constituent costs including die, testing, assembly and packaging

Verify information visually, using various microscopic equipment and the naked eye, to insure the component matches manufacturer specifications
To receive and ship orders in a timely fashion
Unload all inbound shipments from various carriers
Open boxes, separate product and place in bins along with the waybill and pack list
Utilize our proprietary system to complete, in detail, the component inspection and receiving process
Examine components for physical defects
Verify Purchase Order/Sales Order requirements are met
Communicate with appropriate individuals when discrepancies arise

Document product and shipping condition through pictures

To purchase Printed Circuit Boards, Fabricated Material and Electronic Components using MRP (Material Requirement Planning) system and SMT(Surface Mount Technology) shop consumables. To act as a liaison between vendors, manufacturing and the engineering department as well as the SMT production team. To manage suppliers to ensure optimal pricing, cost efficiencies, quality improvement, on-time delivery, inventory management and lead time reduction/management. To communicate shortage/problems with SMT team lead and report to Supply Chain Manager. The incumbent will interact daily with suppliers as well as multiple disciplines throughout the company including production, engineering, accounting, and SMT team.
- Complete ownership of the procurement process to include creating requisitions, ensuring on-time delivery of required materials and including, but not limited to, ordering, expediting and returns.
- Responsible for sourcing and selection of and negotiating pricing.
- Place and confirm purchase orders and blanket orders with the approved suppliers based on material requirements plans and ongoing demand.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Join our team of highly technical engineers supporting the development of next generation television and wireless products. The position is responsible for developing various levels of components, from the simple to the complex, ensuring appropriate ICT/OCT testing levels, adherence to Form/Fit/Function rules, and complete documentation has been acheived. Designs, modifies and evaluates electronic parts, components or integrated circuitry for electronic equipment or other hardware systems and/or electrical engineering applications. Uses a solid understanding of the supply chain process and familiarity of the vendors who provide electronic devices in the selection components and equipment based on analysis of specifications, cost, and reliability. Ownership of the components' lifecycle process from cradle to grave including disposition and acting upon relevant PCNs received from vendors.
Primary responsibilities fall into the following categories:
Works with design engineering developing internal specifications and test requirements to identify components for new and existing products.
Creates new part numbers and approved vendor lists and then coordinates component qualifications with various engineering groups.
Identifies new component manufacturers including occasional factory audits for technical capabilities and process controls.
Work effectively with Supply Chain Management, vendors, and the contract manufacturer's to resolve supply issues and identify alternate components to avoid production line stoppage.
Periodically meets with vendors to obtain information regarding new technologies and lower-cost solutions.
Monitor and track product costs down to the component level and develop cost models and projections. Identify cost reduction opportunities.
Skills - Experience and Requirements
A successful Component Engineer will have the following:
BSEE or BSEET but will consider a 4-year Technical degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
5+ years' experience as a consumer electronics Component Engineer with familiarity of Digital, RF, A/V, Power, and Electro-Mechanical components.
Experience with RoHS, Reach, UL, and other regulatory component requirements required.
High volume manufacturing experience with ability to develop tradeoff analysis of component criteria to meet product requirements.
Proven experience understanding component materials to determine the best for design and manufacturing versus cost.
Tool experience to include AutoCAD, Agile PLM, Excel, Access
