The successful applicant will perform activities engaged in maintenance of sewers and water lines and in repair of damaged or broken water and sewer lines; locate lines; inspect, replace, and/or repair meters.
Some of the functions of this position are performing sewer repair by cutting out bad pieces, replacing ferncos, and working carefully around utilities such as electrical power, gas, phone, and underground cable.
Participate in connecting sewer lines to mains using full circle clamps, shut off valves; working carefully around utilities.

Perform work in cleaning sewer lines and manholes, repairing broken sewer lines, and replacing worn and damaged parts; use sewer tape to unclog debris in line, use vactor to run sewer mains to break up grease inline.
Operate and repair equipment such as jackhammers, pumps, air compressors, and other equipment used in repair and maintenance of sewers; change oil and filters on motorized equipment, wash and spray down tools, replace any worn out tools.
Repair manholes by repairing the ring/cover that is damaged; seal around pipes entering manhole to prevent inflow infiltration, place plugs in sewer lines.
Assist other crews in the department with water/sewer repairs, line construction, Street Department, and others in order to complete large projects or due to a lack of personnel.
Serve as "essential personnel" and remain available for immediate call-in due to any natural or man made disaster, or any other event the Director of Public Works, Assistant City Manager, or the City Manager deem necessary.
To qualify for this position you must have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); at least one (1) year experience and/or training in construction or plumbing, with general knowledge of operating hand and motorized equipment, and a valid, Class "C" Texas Driver's License.

Limestone County Water & Sewer Authority is looking for a trainee to learn semi-skilled labor in maintaining the operations of a water service system. Established in 1980, the Limestone County Water and Sewer Authority is one of the largest rural water systems in Alabama.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE WORK: An employee in this class is responsible for the installation, service, and repair of the water system; outdoors 90% of the time and must be willing to work non-standard hours and weekends.
Work is performed in accordance with established policies and procedures under the general supervision of a Crew Chief. A Field Utility Worker Trainee must lift items weighing over 40 pounds and be on 24 hour call duty one week every four weeks. This position is considered Non-Exempt per FLSA guidelines.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions of this class.) Install and repair water lines, service lines, fire hydrants, and valves; construct new taps; repair and replace water meters; check for reported water leaks, locate and repair leaks; cut, fit, carry, and lay pipe to install water lines; repair damage to driveways and lawns made when installing or repairing water lines; mark valve locations on roadside; operate equipment, if approved, and perform routine maintenance to equipment; fuel vehicles, change fuel/oil filters, and refer maintenance problems to mechanic; obtain materials from storeroom for each job and load parts on truck; inventory parts and materials in storeroom.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE WORK: Some knowledge of the geography, street locations and numbering systems of the county and of the water system; some knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in installing, maintaining and repairing water systems; some knowledge of safety practices and procedures for installing, maintaining and repairing water systems; ability to write legibly and keep simple records; ability to make arithmetical calculations rapidly and accurately; ability to operate heavy equipment; ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions; ability to work under dangerous conditions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent; must obtain either a Class A or Class B CDL within 12 months of hire (depending on age); must possess a valid Alabama Driver's License; must be able to pass drug screen; must complete probationary period set by LCWSA before being eligible for reclassification as a Field Utility Worker.
CDL ATTAINMENT & GUIDELINES: If an employee is hired that must attain a CDL, LCWSA will reimburse the employee the cost of the required exam(s) up to a maximum of 2 attempts.
The same stipulation will apply to the required driving examination with LCWSA paying for and/or reimbursing no more than two attempts per person. LCWSA will reimburse the employee for the cost of required permits and license(s) once obtained.
Once an employee obtains his and/or her CDL and completes the probationary period set by LCWSA, (in most cases 6 months but may differ depending on circumstances), the employee is eligible for reclassification to a Field Utility Worker. If the employee voluntarily resigns within 18 months of LCWSA paying for the cost of the CDL, including, but not limited to training expenses, exam fees, and license fees, the employee must repay a prorated amount to LCWSA for related expenses incurred on his and/or her behalf.

Water Utility Worker (Pumping/Treatment)
Summary of Job Duties
The Water Utility Worker will perform entry-level mechanical duties and assists with routine operations, maintenance and repair functions for the Aurora Water Operations Divisions; Pumping & Treatment Divisions.
This job opportunity is a pro-active recruitment effort with the goal of pre-selecting qualified applicants for placement into positions as they become available. This is an entry level position that is often vacated do to advancement in rank through the city's career development opportunities.
Summary of Divisions:
The Water Utility Worker in the Pumping section reports to a central location each morning and then drives to and performs work at remote sites within and outside of the City. The position normally works with at least one other person, but requires independent initiative to complete assigned tasks. This position works in the distribution and collection systems working with raw, potable, reuse and storm water as well as raw sewage on a daily basis. Work assignments include pump/motor oil changes, inspections, repair, remove foreign objects and rebuild. Operated valves, clean and remove objects from check valves and rebuild. Clean and wash wet wells. Wash and chlorinate storage tanks. Climb water storage tanks to heights of 40 feet using proper safety equipment. Mandatory participation in the Emergency Standby Rotation (average every 6 weeks) and participate in the City's snow removal program. Maintain CDL certification after training.
The Water Utility Worker in the Water Treatment Division participates in a number of activities at the water and wastewater treatment plants that include but are not limited to repair and maintenance of treatment plant equipment and facilities, receiving chemical deliveries including chlorine, learning the operation of the treatment plant, snow removal, and facility housekeeping. The person in this job will work around hazardous chemicals, perform laboratory testing, and must be able to pass a respiratory medical physical and it is recommended they have the Hepatitis B immunization series.
Types of positions available:
Fulltime: Employee who works 40 hours on average and eligible for full city benefits to include; medical, dental, vision, paid holidays & leave, etc.
Temporary: Employees who work an average of 30 hours a week and are eligible for medical benefits only and paid holidays. This temporary position will be established on a yearly contract and does have the possibility to be converted into a fulltime position, per the needs of the department.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
