This is a 2nd Shift Position
To set up and operate engine lathe on a variety of close tolerance work involving thin sections and extremely fine finishes.
Set up and operate an engine lathe to perform a variety of close tolerance machining operations including varied threading, on parts such as: thrust bearing shoes, end cover labyrinths, expander hub and shafts, centrifugal adapter, repair and re-machine work labyrinth seals, etc.
Set up requires changing chuck jaws, jigs, or centers. Select and install required tools and tool holders.
Use jib hoist.
Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

HS Diploma or GED Equivalent.
Must pass our basic mechanical aptitude test given on-site at Dresser-Rand.

CNC Lathe Operator - 3Rd Shift
- Under general supervision, manages the CNC Lathe function of machining metal parts to print specifications. Performs required machine set-up and quality audits through the use of precision measuring instruments and special test equipment. Monitors/performs workflow in order to meet customer demands and production control requirements.
Key Position Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Monitors the machining of metal parts to print specifications.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Demonstrated successful performance of manual adjustment of programming at machine interface.
Ability to complete set-ups using 4th axis, with multiple offsets.
2 or more years' experience in the operations of a CNC Lathe.
Knowledge of tooling and precision set-ups with consistent quality results.
Knowledge of precision measuring instruments.
Knowledge of machinery speeds and feeds utilizing a variety of high strength materials.
Ability to fluently read and follow instructions in English.

The CNC Lathe operator will work as part of the direct manufacturing shop floor team. In this position, the CNC Lathe operator will use computer numerically controlled (CNC) machinery safely and accurately in a manufacturing environment. This highly skilled professional will work with great concentration and precision while complying with all safety guidelines. The CNC lathe operator will be able to start and power down the machine, make size adjustments, and understand the measuring instrument while maintaining a good part. This position is also responsible for changing and teaching tools (O.D., I.D., drills and cutoffs), change overs, and loading programs while meeting production requirements. Ability to load and run parts on a CMM as needed.
Ability to understand and reset alarms forloaders including sensors as needed. Understand and use tool life as needed.
Ability to indicate a part prior to machining as needed.
Must understand and become proficient with Gand M codes.
Familiarize themselves withand understand the function of canned cycles.
Familiarize themselves with feeds and speeds understanding the cause andeffects.
Must understand the properoperation sequences in a given program.
Must demonstrate a strong and thorough understanding of the machiningprocesses.
May require the ability toset up gantry tables and towers, bar feeders, and 4th and 5th axis.
Ability to set up roll dies and etchers.
Ability to rework parts to print.
Must demonstrate the ability to start up andhome out machines.
Must demonstrate a strongunderstanding on how to properly replace, set, and touch off tooling.
Must understand tooling geometry and offsetsincluding cutter compensation.
May needto understand use of Spironi tool setter.
Must demonstrate the ability to follow set up sheets and routers, andset up checklist.
Must demonstrate astrong and thorough understanding of part programming.
Must understand and be proficient in settingup robot loaders.
Demonstrate theability to give instructions and train people.
Awareness of the possibility for improvements.
Must demonstrate a strong understanding ofmachine controls possibly including graphing.
Demonstrate a strong knowledge of trouble shooting skills.
Ability to cut jaws.
Ability to identify and process nonferrousmetals (cleaning machine and recycling chips)
Must be proficient in identifying and use of work shifts (G54, G55, G56for example).
Demonstrate the ability touse the handheld unit for uploading/ downloading of programs.
Other duties as assigned
