Under minimal supervision operates a CNC lathe to perform machining operations such as turning, boring, facing, and threading parts such as castings, forgings, and bar stock by performing the following duties. I have 2 Positions on Second Shift - this position is Temporary to Hire Only.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Reads process sheets, blueprints, work orders and sketches of part to determine machining to be done and operating requirements.
Inserts beginning point of tape in reading head of control unit.
Mounts work piece between centers, in chuck, or to faceplate.
Selects and installs preset tooling in tool posts, turrets or indexing heads, and automatic tool change magazine, in sequence specified on process sheet.
Depresses buttons, toggles, or sets tape and starts machining operation.
Observes numerical displays on control panel and compares with data on process sheet to verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates, and speeds of machining cuts.
Turns dial and switches to override tape control and correct machine performance.
Inspects first run piece and spot checks succeeding pieces for conformance to specifications.
Studies job packet and organizes materials for next run during automatic tape controlled cycles to shorten changeover time.
Machines all types of metallic and nonmetallic materials.
Education and/or Experience:
Two years Technical or Trade School with appropriate certification; and five years related experience and/or training; or seven years equivalent combination of job-related education and experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
The lathe Set up Operator is responsible for, but not limited to the following:
Under the direction of the Supervisor, this individual will be responsible for performing set ups on a variety of CNC lathes in the machining areas for operators within the department. This person must be proficient in the set-up, diagnosing, troubleshooting and making corrections and adjustments to CNC lathe equipment. Must also be familiar with various types of gauging and measuring devices including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, plug gauges, bore gauges etc. and able to perform quality inspections that will produce parts that conform to required specifications of the blue print. Applicants should also possess good math skills. Will participate in continuous improvement activities to eliminate waste and streamline processes to increase productivity and quality. Must maintain work area in a clean, orderly fashion and perform other job duties as required by the Supervisor.

Operates drill press to drill and tap holes in parts.
Smoothes and scrapes parts to fit, using hand tools such as files and scrapers.
Positions and secures parts on surface plate with devices such as V-Blocks, vises, and angles plates.
Assembles parts into product, using tools such as wrenches, hammers, and tweezers and verifies dimensions and alignments using measuring instruments such as micrometers, height gauges and gauge blocks. May set up and operate surface grinder to grind surface of parts.
May test assembled mechanism
Will be required to set up, program and run various CNC lathes and milling machines including but not limited to, Hardinge CHNC II, Hardinge Conquest SP, Maho Mill 1000C, Okuma LC30 & LC40 lathes, and other machines as required and assigned.
Must possess fundamental skills to make offset adjustments, write programs to turn and/or bore diameters, write threading programs, etc.
Conventional machinery experience skills required pertain to the ability to set up and operate various engine lathes, milling machines, surface grinders and use all peripheral machine shop accessories such as dividing heads, rotary blades and job specific equipment.
Perform gauge grinding and light assembly
Accurate documentation of his/her daily work performed by using the tool room work order system.
