Under minimal supervision operates a CNC lathe to perform machining operations such as turning, boring, facing, and threading parts such as castings, forgings, and bar stock by performing the following duties. I have 2 Positions on Second Shift - this position is Temporary to Hire Only.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Reads process sheets, blueprints, work orders and sketches of part to determine machining to be done and operating requirements.
Inserts beginning point of tape in reading head of control unit.
Mounts work piece between centers, in chuck, or to faceplate.
Selects and installs preset tooling in tool posts, turrets or indexing heads, and automatic tool change magazine, in sequence specified on process sheet.
Depresses buttons, toggles, or sets tape and starts machining operation.
Observes numerical displays on control panel and compares with data on process sheet to verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates, and speeds of machining cuts.
Turns dial and switches to override tape control and correct machine performance.
Inspects first run piece and spot checks succeeding pieces for conformance to specifications.
Studies job packet and organizes materials for next run during automatic tape controlled cycles to shorten changeover time.
Machines all types of metallic and nonmetallic materials.
Education and/or Experience:
Two years Technical or Trade School with appropriate certification; and five years related experience and/or training; or seven years equivalent combination of job-related education and experience.
Manual Engine Lathe Operator
As a member of the Traction Motors team you will report directly to and work under the supervision of a Production Supervisor. A Manual Engine Lathe Operator machines parts and transit assemblies in accordance with AAR, customer specifications, company guidelines and checklists.
Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with PRS safety policies;
Operates CNC machines and manual machines including bar mill, engine lathes, and manual grinders to produce locomotive and transit assemblies;
Use precision gauges and instruments such as micrometers to determine and follow customers' specifications;
Program mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, conditional switches; and calculating requirements;
Maintain specifications by observing, drilling, grooving and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes;
Operates overhead cranes and forklifts;
Perform other duties as requested or required by Supervisor.
CNC Lathe Set Up Operator
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
The lathe Set up Operator is responsible for, but not limited to the following:
Under the direction of the Supervisor, this individual will be responsible for performing set ups on a variety of CNC lathes in the machining areas for operators within the department. This person must be proficient in the set-up, diagnosing, troubleshooting and making corrections and adjustments to CNC lathe equipment. Must also be familiar with various types of gauging and measuring devices including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, plug gauges, bore gauges etc. and able to perform quality inspections that will produce parts that conform to required specifications of the blue print. Applicants should also possess good math skills. Will participate in continuous improvement activities to eliminate waste and streamline processes to increase productivity and quality. Must maintain work area in a clean, orderly fashion and perform other job duties as required by the Supervisor.
High School Diploma or equivalent.

Performs and is responsible for the set up, maintenance, disassembly and reassembly of such certification tool as: Winslow Spacematic, Quackenbush and Peck motors.
Using manufacturers' drawings, catalogs, shop orders and other written or verbal instructions, determines operational sequence methods used to drill and ream graphite composite and graphite titanium/aluminum to specified tolerances.
Sets up and performs functional tests to determine proper operation of tools prior to submittal to inspection for specific hole and countersink sizes.

The Small Engine Mechanic position requires more than just a backyard mechanic level of experience. The Mechanic should be have some certification and be able to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair small engines on equipment including, but not limited to, lawn mowers, tillers, trimers, and chainsaws. The successful candidate will need to have a proven ability to work well with people & customers, and will need to be comfortable working with computers. Experience with keeping track of parts inventory, processing works orders, and generating purchase orders is highly preferred.
