Lathe Operator Set Up And Operate - Midnights
Sets up and operates semi-automatic, numerically controlled, and hand operated lathes to perform variety of secondary, repair, and primary turning operations on various bearing components.
- Performs the work elements necessary to set up or reset any of the turning equipment; set ups consist of changing and/or
dressing jaws, adjust or change collets and pads, remove and replace tooling, etc. Grinds tools, inserts, drills, etc. Sets
feeds and speeds, homes axis etc.
Hand loads parts and/or material, hand feed tools as required.
Inspects parts during production using various types of gaging devices such as comparators, hand mikes, plug and depth
gages, etc. Makes machine and tooling adjustments necessary to maintain print specifications.
Resharpens and replaces tools, rakes chips, sands faces, adds coolant, etc.
Performs miscellaneous related duties, such as clerical recording, material handling, etc. and maintains cleanliness of
machines and work area.

Cnc Lathe Set Up Operator
Please Note that there are no relocations at this time for this role.
Under minimal supervision operates a CNC lathe to perform machining operations such as turning, boring, facing, and threading parts such as castings, forgings, and bar stock by performing the following duties. I have 2 Positions on Second Shift - this position is Temporary to Hire Only.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Reads process sheets, blueprints, work orders and sketches of part to determine machining to be done and operating requirements.
Inserts beginning point of tape in reading head of control unit.
Mounts work piece between centers, in chuck, or to faceplate.
Selects and installs preset tooling in tool posts, turrets or indexing heads, and automatic tool change magazine, in sequence specified on process sheet.
Depresses buttons, toggles, or sets tape and starts machining operation.
Observes numerical displays on control panel and compares with data on process sheet to verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates, and speeds of machining cuts.
Turns dial and switches to override tape control and correct machine performance.
Inspects first run piece and spot checks succeeding pieces for conformance to specifications.
Studies job packet and organizes materials for next run during automatic tape controlled cycles to shorten changeover time.
Machines all types of metallic and nonmetallic materials.
Education and/or Experience:
Two years Technical or Trade School with appropriate certification; and five years related experience and/or training; or seven years equivalent combination of job-related education and experience.

The lathe Set up Operator is responsible for, but not limited to the following:
Under the direction of the Supervisor, this individual will be responsible for performing set ups on a variety of CNC lathes in the machining areas for operators within the department. This person must be proficient in the set-up, diagnosing, troubleshooting and making corrections and adjustments to CNC lathe equipment. Must also be familiar with various types of gauging and measuring devices including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, plug gauges, bore gauges etc. and able to perform quality inspections that will produce parts that conform to required specifications of the blue print. Applicants should also possess good math skills. Will participate in continuous improvement activities to eliminate waste and streamline processes to increase productivity and quality. Must maintain work area in a clean, orderly fashion and perform other job duties as required by the Supervisor.

Under minimal supervision, performs moderately complex assignment planning, layout, set up, operating and making tool adjustments for various types of manual, numerically controlled and computerized machine shop equipment. Under minimal supervision, works from blueprints, process sheets and sketches to perform production tasks, which may include the cutting and shaping of metal to precision dimensions. Perform all required manufacturing functions to operate a CNC Shaft Lathe System.
