POSITION SUMMARY: To safely and accurately generate quality stock to established quantity levels for use in the molding process. Please submit a resume with application and indicate in resume your CRC level as well. One 2nd shift and one 3rd shift position.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Extrude quality stock of sufficient quantities required to run our molding presses to produce molded parts to meet our customer's specifications.
Set up extruder dies for items to be run maintaining correct weight, length and width of stock.
Operate forklift and other material handling devices as needed to bring totes of compounded materials to be extruded to the extrusion area.
Problem solve and troubleshoot equipment related issues that are adversely affecting the units production; requesting maintenance assistance as required to correct the issue needing attention.
Must be able to read a ruler and convert fractions to decimals.
Must maintain product traceability by coordinating stock and MO numbers.
Accurately maintain all required paperwork, including line clearance forms.
Must be able train and guide the work of new or less experienced operators or support personnel while working in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
Follow all area, site and/or corporate policies, practices, procedures, and S.O.I.'s without exception including safety items as well.
Perform housekeeping duties in assigned area as requested or assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned based on business needs.
Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, instruction, and all safety rules.
Exhibits regular, reliable, punctual and predictable attendance.

Will produce food grade film through an extrusion process using resin pellets extruded into rolls of plastic film for food packaging.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To operate an extrusion line in a safe and orderly manner at Standard Operating Conditions (SOC) to manufacture a quality product in the most efficient manner possible.
Operate equipment to produce finished goods to production specifications.
Understand and be able to safely STOP equipment during normal conditions and during and emergency situation. Know how to E-Stop the machine.
Set Machine up to SOC using the appropriate conditions found in SAP
Use the Human Machine Interface(HMI) to set run conditions and adjust as necessary within SOC to safely make a quality product
Understand and perform winder Function and tension adjustment as necessary to ensure quality roll profile
Perform Rate adjustments with in SOC allowances.
Understand Blender Operation, and perform Cleaning, Adjustments, and Changeover
Understand Treater operation, and perform Cleaning, Adjustments, and changeover
Perform Line start up and Line shut down
Understand and safely operate extruders
Winder and extrusion line threading with rope or film
Understand and safely purge extruders, and change screen packs with specified screens.
Follow all EAT or standard operating procedures(SOP) to safely and efficiently operate the line
Understand and perform a bubble pull to get line into production
Understand and operate deflate, winder, and secondary nips
Set up and Safely handle edge ripper or slit in line blades as applicable
Use the trouble shooting guides to identify and solve extrusion issues including but not limited to gels and wrinkles.
Perform line changeover activities to safely and efficiently change over from one product to the next.
Ability to use SAP to fulfill job functions
Ensure proper labeling of all film

The following job duties are for the extruder. The extruder is a machine that takes a long period of time to achieve the technique and skill set to be a good operator.
Maintain and perform maintenance to the lathe and machine
Learn the controls and power sources as well as air controlled valves.
Learn to work from the factory order and follow attached instructions.
Learn to identify the cements that are applied to the roll body and follow page 5 instructions.
Check journals and center holes for mounting in the extruder
Install bearings when necessary and change stands and set up to compensate for loading the roll
Check the roll weight, select proper cables for lifting roll to load. Work with overhead cranes.
Load the roll check serial number stamped on roll against the factory order.
Make sure all cements have been applied per the factory order
Check for vent holes
Check tags on material to make sure they match the factory order and compound requested
Read diameter tape and 35 foot measuring tapes
Actual job duties to cover a roll
Locate roll and match serial number against the factory.
Make sure is blasted and properly cemented prior to loading
Check center holes to run roll between or install bearings to run on bearing stands.
If bearings required install bearing stands on extruder and adjust stands to fit bearings
Load the roll and indicate to within .005 runout
Line up roll end to end in the machine
Double check the factory order for completeness and all cements are applied properly
Double check the core diameter and face length and record on factory order
Get all material for this roll check the tags against the factory order serial number. Take all stripped rubber material to the extruder and stage for the roll covering.
Set all temperatures on the die, barrel and head of the extruder as specified for the compound.
Cover roll per factory order specifications. Some build ups require base and tie in. Other compounds do not require base or tie in.
Apply base if specified.
Then apply the tie in if specified
Apply the top stock material per the specified cover thickness including the oversize required
Check the roll diameter every 15 to 20" on the roll face during the covering cycle to insure oversize is consistent
Apply the tissue barrier prior to final wrapping with wrapper duct
Wrap roll per specified pressure and lead per the factory order
Turn vent hole on tending end to the bottom for loading to the Vulcanizer
Clean the extruder barrel weigh material and fill out all factory order information
Mark the north side of the roll prior to placing roll in the Vulcanizer

GENERAL DESCRIPTION – PURPOSE OF ROLE:
Set up, calibrate, operate, monitor and perform basic trouble shooting of extrusion and auxiliary equipment to produce quality products to Blue Buffalo's specifications.

Make equipment adjustments when necessary.
Change over extrusion equipment following all safety and sanitation procedures.
Minimize scrap/waste during change overs.
Evaluate the finished product quality by visually inspecting the pet food both at the extruder and the dryer to include proper cook, odor and product size. Make adjustments as necessary to correct any issues related to the quality of the product. Visually inspect the finished product at the cooling conveyor. Ensure the product is going to the correct bin.
Record all process checks as required.
Collaborate with QA to ensure that issues during the shift are being addressed and that the product is meeting all target specifications. Make adjustments as necessary and involve others as necessary.
Maintain the extruder log.
Monitor downtime and document downtime by cause.
Collaborate with packaging lead and mill room operator to maximize efficiencies, minimize downtime and maximize production capabilities.
Ensure adherence to all lockout/tag out procedures.
Review extrusion requirements and specs for the run to include a review of the formula to ensure that proper coatings (wet & dry) are being applied. Identify any inventory concerns and bring them to the attention of the Shift Supervisor immediately.
Ensure that set-up parameters are updated on the PLC and match the correct formula.
Monitor and record on a timely basis wet density if necessary.
Perform daily/weekly sanitation of the extruder room area/floor as required.
Maintain clean work environment.
Proactively prepare for change overs by having die plates and knives ready ahead of time.
Operate the extrusion equipment at expected run rates and be able to calculate anticipated change over or shutdown times.
Perform all start-up and shut down activities.
Trouble shoot all problems.
Perform Food Safety checks and CCP monitoring activities as specified by HACCP.
