The Extruder Operator Helper ‘A’ is primarily responsible to pack product and assist in production line operations, maintains well organized and clean work station and update required documentation to insure a quality product. Dependability is an essential part of this job as well as the ability to team with co-workers. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Perform job in a safe manner following all rules/ regulations and training. Perform daily safety inspection and report all unsafe conditions or Near Miss events immediately. Wear all PPE as required. Use hand tools as intended. Follow all environmental and housekeeping requirements, properly dispose of trash, regularly sweep keeping material, oil and water off floors and keep contaminated material from entering process water system. Insure that line is cleaned prior to end of work shift.
Package product per specification- make boxes, correctly code labels, properly configure and nest product, glue and secure packaging, configure and build product onto pallet, insert slip sheets, band product to pallet and insure that product is secure before warehousing.
Assist in operation of production line. Manage pigment containers, regrind totes, ASA/ Centrex feed, hoses to silos, daybins and hoppers. Operate peripheral line equipment- grinder, cutter and boxing table. Assist in clearing of jams/ sawing material from machine works, pull/ segregate bacon strips, manage line sags, purge lines, re-string lines, make product/ color changes, interchange sizers and properly segregate/ rack regrind and isolate contaminated material to scrap. Insure inventory of boxes, banding, glue and labels is maintained on line. Change over boxing table on product changes.
Perform to all quality expectations, isolate/ report all defects, insure that product meets all dimensional and cosmetic standards, abide by all ISO 9001 systems, adhere to all MADE standards and follow SPC guidelines. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Provides assistance to maintenance in changeovers to include, but not limited to, chill rolls, screen pack, etc. Performs or assists in performing roll changes, machine loading and unloading, changeovers, and cleaning up the machine area at extruder. Provides roll information of material put on the machine as required while checking to assure material is the proper construction.
Assists Operator in taping rubber rolls and other corrective tasks. Assists the Operator in performing routine preventive maintenance, monitoring instruments, and operating conditions. Must operate in the absence of the Operator and be capable of doing so within six months of being a helper.
Operates in an efficient manner, maintains awareness of job safety aspects, and applies safe work practices at all times. Must wear Kevlar gloves while working with metal bands, cutting down cores, and slab down waste. Responsible for assisting in making changeovers as fast as possible to improve on productivity and efficiency.
Someone (competent/qualified) must be watching the machine to monitor quality at all times and does not leave the machine without notifying the Operator. Responsible for maintaining the machine and area in a condition consistent with good housekeeping practices Daily/Weekly Machine Area: Machine and area around machine is clean & orderly.
All foil cores at the machine are peeled down and stacked on skid. All foil racks are broken down and stacked. Deckles are pulled out and plugs and blades are cleaned.
Ovens and mezzanines are clean. Primer pans, reservoirs, pumps & hoses are clean. All hopper loader filters and dust canisters are clean.
Carriages, dies & frame work around dies are clean. All resin is off floor around machine. Shutdown sheets & poly logs are removed from machine.
Excess resin in containers are removed around extruders. All Ink returned to correct containers and accounted for. Assists in operation and clean up of printing and priming units and drying ovens.
Performs automatic splicing requiring considerable technique. Responsible for obtaining raw stock and finished samples for the Lab as required by manufacturing spec. Writes the footage on the roll tickets on the finished rolls.
Must be capable of setting up and operating, blending, and poly feed systems. Responsible for notifying warehouse before running out of raw material. Responsible for ordering cores or cutting own when necessary.
Assists the Operator by operating crane, putting rolls on and taking finished material off machine, setting trim knives, handling drool pans, and any other tasks as directed by the Operator. Required to peel down foil cores and put scrap foil in boxes provided. Responsible for checking the bond and the appearance on each finished roll.
Responsible for flagging the bad material to help cut down on the waste at the slitter. Assists in making corrections to improve quality and efficiency. Annual training required in hazardous waste management, including contingency plan implementation and effective response to hazardous waste emergencies as defined by this facilities LA DEQ approved plan.This training will be conducted by either the Plant EH&S Coordinator or a qualified outside contractor.
It is your responsibility to follow the procedures and policies that are defined in this facilities Hazardous Waste Management plan during your daily duties that include handling, storage, or transporting hazardous waste at this facility.You are also responsible for following the procedures and policies that are defined in this facilities contingency plan during an emergency or spill of hazardous waste. Hazardous waste responsibilities for this position are as follows: Responsible for maintaining control of hazardous materials at his machine or area.
Responsible for obtaining proper containers for hazardous wastes generated at his machine and for transferring non-hazardous liquid wastes to collection point for transfer to storage tanks(s). Responsible for proper marking of waste containers for storage. Reports to Shift Supervisor or Lead Operator any unlisted waste.
Responsible for reporting discharge of hazardous waste.
Responsible for cleanup of machine sumps and equipment as required. Responsible for cleaning of empty containers, labeling, and moving ""empties"" to proper storage areas. LOADING/UNLOADING OF FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS:It is your responsibility to insure that the following are adhered to during transfer operations:
All hoses, pumps, containers, and support equipment used to transport, transfer, store, and pump flammable liquids must be DOT/NFPA/OSHA approved.This includes all tools used to open/seal containers.These tools must be constructed of non-sparking materials AREA SURVEY AND SURVEYLANCE:You are responsible for insuring that no open flames or ignition sources are present within 20 feet of the area that flammable liquids are exposed to the environment during transfer/pumping operations. You are responsible for insuring that the all hose transfer connection points on the truck/trailer are secured and not leaking before the truck can leave the facility. You are responsible for insuring that all spills are cleaned up immediately in accordance with our Hazardous Waste Management Contingency plan.
No lift trucks or equipment shall be stored outside the facility that will contaminate storm water. You may store equipment outside that is exposed to the environment if the following guidelines are implemented: All fluids must be drained from the lift truck or equipment and properly stored or disposed of in accordance with this facilities policy.
All surface residue must be cleaned from the lift truck or equipment.This must be performed in an area that will allow for 100% containment of both the residue and the cleaning media used.The collected residue and cleaning media mixture must be stored and disposed of in accordance with this facilities Hazardous Waste Management program. Once placed outside for storage, the lift truck or equipment must be tarped. No bulk storage containers can be placed outside the building or containment areas that will be exposed to the environment.This includes boxes of chemicals or drums, etc.Any storage outside the covered buildings/containment systems of this type requires modification/amendment to our Storm Water Plan.

As a Press/Extruder Operator, you will manage the extruder processes, perform necessary quality checks, diagnose problems and machine adjustments, and perform key sanitation activities to ensure quality product is produced in a safe and efficient manner. We are expanding our production team to support a 12-hour shift schedule; during this 12-hour shift, employees will work a consistent shift and will work 3 days in one week followed by 4 days the next week. Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage all steps in the extrusion/press operation process, including: checking run schedules for assigned lines, maintaining mixers at correct levels to ensure efficient feed into extrusion augers, ensure appropriate flour/water ratio per recipe settings, monitoring spreader, diffuser, blowers and stick heaters, observe dividers on long goods lines to prevent backups, monitoring and managing the stick magazine process, and managing flour silos, and conveying pressures
Perform necessary quality checks of product at all stages of drying in accordance with standard operating procedures, best practices, and regulations. Monitor for length, color, lumps, splits, checking. Take appropriate corrective measures to reduce and eliminate quality issues in a timely fashion
Own processes associated with egg product hoppers; ensure machine is assembled properly according to procedures and product is loaded into the hoppers in a timely manner
Use computers and tools to take appropriate and regular machine readings; record data on press control forms and report abnormal machine readings to supervisor immediately to prevent product waste and loss
Proactively keep machine areas, floors, and bins clean, wiped down, and free of hazards throughout shift, in accordance with standards, procedures, and expectations. Scrape, wash, and clean mixers, and assist other press/extruder operators with cleaning of machinery
Carry out die changes as assigned for the shift and assist on other lines with die changes. Ensure correct die plates and screens are used when changing dies
Report machine problems to the shift supervisor and ensure machine logs are accurately filled out, detailing mechanical and non-mechanical downtime. Fill out work order requests as needed to ensure appropriate machine uptime
