Industrial Sheet Metal Fabricator
The Kelly Group is seeking an experienced Industrial Sheet Metal Fabricator for its Reserve, Louisiana, facility. Candidates should have a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in the layout and fabrication of sheet metal and structural steel.
This position requires the ability to perform these essential duties:
Safely and accurately lay out and fabricate straight lengths of ductwork; cones; elbows; tapers; and miscellaneous parts utilizing a bending roll
Safely and accurately lay out and fabricate square and rectangular spouting; square to rounds; tapers; offset fittings; and various parts utilizing a press brake
Safely and accurately measure and cut various sheet metals utilizing a sheet metal shear
Safe operation of an ironworker machine to punch, shear and cut
Safe operation of a drill press, punch press, hand grinder and other tools of the trade
Reading and understanding of blueprints/drawings, and developing a cut list and/or material list accordingly
Other preferred qualifications sought include:
Experience fabricating structural steel, stairs, platforms and handrail
Ability to layout and cut sheet metal on a high-definition plasma table
Ability to tack weld and/or final weld all fabrications utilizing SMAW, MIG and GTAW of mild steel and stainless steel
Thorough understanding of techniques to set up welding machines and gases
Ability to square up and weld various geometries and components
Ability to perform vertical and horizontal welding
Understanding of various weld form symbols on blueprints
Ability to safely rig material and utilize overhead cranes
Basic computer skills

Day to Day Responsibilities:
Provide project leadership and establish plan (scope, schedule, cost and deliverables)

Furnace Rebuild Responsibilities :
Supervise and act as Owner's Representative for one shift of the Furnace Rebuild
Work with contractors and labor foremen to insure everyone is performing tasks safely
Review prints and check construction to assure that furnace is being built to design
Assist labor foreman and think proactively to keep productivity at a high level throughout the furnace rebuild
Work hours are typically day shift excluding furnace rebuilds which would be 11 hours night shifts, working 6-7 days/week until end of project. (Approximately one month)
Estimate travel at 10% depending upon specific project assignment. Travel may be required during installation, debug, and start-up as well as for routine interaction with customers and suppliers

Duties & Responsibilities
Takes temperature of molten steel using temperature lance.
Removes obstructions / debris around the furnace with shovels, brooms, and air hoses.

Assists first helper in adding electrodes.
Communicates with crane operator to position crane over any type load, then connects load to crane.
Assists maintenance staff with repairs during normal operations as well as on down days.
Maintains visual contact with co-workers, crane and equipment at all times.
Responsible for keeping furnace floor clean at all times.
Responsible for keeping break room stocked and clean at all times.
Communicates with co-workers through two-way radio and hand signals.
Assists in training of co-workers as needed.

Furnace Mechanical Engineer
LyondellBasell's Houston Refinery, one of the largest refineries designed to process heavy, high-sulfur crude oil is in search of a Furnace Mechanical Engineer. Our 268,000-barrel-per-day refinery is strategically located on the U.S. Gulf Coast with access to interstate pipelines and the Port of Houston. The facility covers approximately 700 acres at the city limits of Houston and Pasadena, Texas.

The Furnace Mechanical Engineer position interacts with other technical groups on site (process engineering, maintenance, turnaround and capital project groups), corporate technical networks and peers, and vendors/suppliers as needed to resolve problems and improve plant reliability and performance.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Serve as site subject matter expert for high level Fired Equipment issues and long-range plans.
Perform routine Infrared (IR) scans, including generating IR reports, of site furnace tubes and any Process hot spots that develop.
Perform API-579 heater tube creep damage assessments to establish remaining life and next inspection date.
Ownership of the Fired Heater database / spreadsheet which documents heater design parameters.
Troubleshoot mechanical issues with furnaces, flares, thermal oxidizers, combustors, burners, stacks, FD / ID fan air pre-heat systems, flue gas analyzers.
Assist Unit Inspectors and the turnaround group with internal inspection of furnaces during outages and turnarounds. Visual Inspection shall focus on radiant and convection tubes, refractory, burners, burner tile, tube guides, skin thermocouples, etc.
Monitor equipment performance and make improvement recommendations.
Perform annual heater boiler MACT testing and heater optimization.
Perform annual heater audits.
Provide annual heater training to Operators and Engineering.
Apply data analysis techniques to develop engineering solutions to repetitive failures and other problems that adversely affect plant operations including capacity, quality, cost, safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance issues.
Provide technical support/expertise within your discipline in the design and installation stages of projects for new assets and modification of existing assets to minimize life cycle cost and maximize asset availability.
Lead or participate in incident investigations and root cause analysis.
Participate in interdisciplinary reliability improvement teams to guide efforts to ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, controls, and safety systems.
Provide technical support within your discipline to production, maintenance, project, turnaround and process engineering groups.
This position requires: BS degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of work experience in the refining / petrochemical industry.
Experience with troubleshooting issues with furnaces, combustors, thermal oxidizers, marine vapor combustors, air-preheaters, flares, etc.
Proven proficiency with performing API-579 creep damage assessments on heater tubes.

The successful furnace design engineer will fully own the process innovation and application of furnace design for OC Insulation glass melting. Design responsibilities will include refractory, steel, combustion and controls systems and safety systems for all electric and oxy – fuel melters. The engineer will lead project definition with plant team, linking capital delivery, sourcing and EHS to deliver turnkey furnace systems for Owens Corning Insulation. Plan brazing and/or heat treat operations of developmental, prototype and production assemblies in controlled atmospheric brazing furnaces where explosive and inert gasses are used in the atmospheres.
Set power and temperature controls, gas flow panels and instrumentation for electric or gas fired furnaces. Adjust switches on temperature control instruments for multiple cycle brazing. Load assemblies on furnace base and make hookups of thermocouples and pressure lines as required.
Operate auxiliary power equipment to unload furnaces and cool down with cooling muffles. Perform heat treating and/or brazing operation as required.
Operate furnace to heat treat and/or braze assemblies including leak check and purge, instrumentation, heat-up, braze and cool down. Take action when emergency conditions arise during phases of operations to assure safety of personnel and equipment. Over-ride furnace controls by manual operation when necessary.
High school diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of experience in heat treating and brazing operations.
Demonstrated experience working with and around hazardous chemicals including acids.
Must have a proven safety record and experience with PPE used with hazardous chemicals.
Experience handling large (500 lbs +) complex hardware with tooling and other handling devices (ie: pallet jacks, cranes, lifting straps, etc).
Experience reading, comprehending and using planning and drawings to meet required specification requirements.
Experience using measurement instruments to ensure parts are set-up and indicated properly to meet requirements.
Must carry or obtain applicable certifications to work in an environmentally controlled room.
Must pass the written and practical exam required for Heat Treated and Brazing Furnace Operator.
US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
Work Environment and Physical
The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds. Work may require the ability to operate material handling equipment (forklift, crane, hoist, man lift, etc.) in a safe manner.
While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels or with fume or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc. requiring the use of personal protective equipment such as face protection (safety glasses, goggles, face shield), foot protection (i.e. steel toed shoes, rubber boots, etc.), gloves, hard hat, shop coat and hearing protection. Some positions may require Respirator clearance up to and including the Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Level A clearance. Work requires the ability to change into or out of personal protective equipment when entering or exiting manufacturing, laboratory, or other areas.
Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations. Work duties may also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer and/or the ability to travel by air or auto. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. This position may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.

The furnace technician will be responsible for performing repairs, preventative maintenance, Temperature Uniformity Surveys (TUS), System Accuracy Tests (SAT) and furnace control instrument calibrations. Troubleshoot and repair furnace instruments and combustion systems to maintain operation of furnaces in a Quality environment in accordance with quality compliance procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This is not intended as a comprehensive list; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Provide maintenance and repair services for Hot Work production furnaces and Heat Treat furnaces.
Sound understanding of combustion theory and application of concepts during furnace troubleshooting and repair to maintain thermal furnace characteristics and operational efficiency.
Prepare survey racks and stands for the performance of Temperature Uniformity Surveys to include: cutting and welding thermocouple wire to the required length(s) and affixing them to the correct positions on the survey rack / stand(s) in accordance with quality procedures.
Perform Temperature Uniformity Surveys test using a Portable Survey Datalogger Field Test Instrument mobile computer.
Upload the Temperature Uniformity Survey results to the network system for proper review and acceptance by the Quality personnel in order to release the furnace back to production following the performance of Temperature Uniformity Survey or System Accuracy Test.
Calibrate furnace control instruments such as the temperature chart recorders, temperature controllers and the over limit controllers.
Create the certification of calibration for each instrument and affix calibration sticker that shows calibration date and due date in accordance with quality procedures.
Work directly with the Quality Department representatives, supervision and management to immediately identify and correct issues affecting the compliant functioning of furnaces.
Assuring that after the quality personnel reviews and approves the certification of calibration file calibration records with the maintenance planner.
Validate and confirm sufficient furnace components are on hand for the performance of scheduled TUS, SAT and calibrations.
Ensure that all the instruments that can not be calibrated in house get calibrated by an outside source, such as Optical pyrometers, potentiometers and gas analyzers.
Review material certifications to ensure they have been approved for release and use by the Quality Department for thermocouple wire, control thermocouples, potentiometers, optical - pyrometers and Gas analyzers prior to their usage for both Forge and Heat Treat Departments.
Knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers and electro-mechanical controls a must.
All these duties are performed in accordance with Spec. AMS2750 Pyrometry latest revision.
