The inside machinist operate in 3 sections: Machining, Valves and Pumps. Responsibilities and functional knowledge varies based on the designated section.
All inside machinists are encouraged, but not required, to gain experience in any section other than their designated section.
Key Responsibilities & Functional Knowledge
This list is representative of the key areas of responsibility and functional knowledge required of a first class mechanic in the Inside Machine shop. A first class mechanic must demonstrate an advanced knowledge of the skills, functional knowledge and abilities required to perform tasks in these and related areas of responsibility.
Advanced knowledge means that the mechanic understands how to perform tasks in these categories (including, but not limited to, the specific tasks identified below) and is able to complete them independently and teach others how to complete the tasks. This also means that the mechanic has the necessary level of knowledge of the equipment, protective gear, and machinery required to complete these tasks. A first class mechanic also is expected to strategize independently and problem-solve as appropriate.
Machinists Assigned to the Machining Section
Operate Machinery - Must know how to operate the following machines safely, and be developing additional skills in the following key areas:

Operate and performance maintenance on the following types of lathes:
Lathe to 24"

Operate face flanges on valves and other parts

Repair ship components using more complex blueprints, sketches and sample parts

Trained in operating and performing maintenance on the Lathe over 24" (preferred, but not required)
Hold tighter tolerances
Accomplish basic in-line valve repairs
Know operations of the vertical mill
Assess and provide maintenance for the mill
Trained on the basic uses of the vertical mill based on department need (preferred, but not required)
Operate the drill press
Assess the drill presses for repairs
Make repairs to the drill presses
Operate the gate grinder
Know uses of the gate grinder to include grinding gates for valves and fit of the gate for a valve body

Product Development Engineer R&D
Location: Granville, Ohio

The Product Development Engineer manages the development, implementation and support of new technologies related to self-adhered roofing underlayments and other polymer modified asphalt based products. The engineer will develop and leverage their knowledge of polymer modified asphalts, facers, and reinforcements to translate customer, manufacturing & application needs into effective product designs and specifications. Candidate will lead product development projects to successfully deliver customer-inspired solutions for our Roofing Components business. The Product Development Engineer will work very closely with Product Management, Manufacturing, Science and Technology, Sourcing, Capital Engineering, Intellectual Property, Product Stewardship, and Marketing organizations to deliver cross-functional product development opportunities.
This role will have three specific accountabilities:
To engage and partner with customers, end-users, sales and marketing to identify and develop product features that customers value.
To partner with cross functional resources to develop and launch products that meet customer needs. To serve as project and technical lead for product development projects.
To engage and partner with Roofing and Asphalt plants and/or 3rd party vendors to create quality specifications and execute product manufacturing.
The position reports to the Program Leader for Roofing Components Science and Technology

Create and qualify product and test mimics as needed to validate performance
Partner with plants and vendors to develop quality standards and specifications and enable robust manufacturing handoff

BS required; MS or PhD preferred in Scientific or Engineering Degree.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in an industrial research and development environment is required.
