The Buyer is responsible for inventory maintenance and purchases within special product per print and across our robust standards product line. Buyers must develop and maintain relationships with vendors, and do so with an eye towards ensuring that our corporate goals are met.
What You Will Be Doing:
Analyzing inventory levels of assigned product groups on a bi-monthly basis, through the forecast system, and determines quantity for purchase for each Vertex location. Retains at least six months of records of product group analyses and purchases.
Read fastener prints and buy specials per print.
Updating, promptly and accurately, variable parameters of the forecast system.
Soliciting and evaluating bids from multiple manufacturers for each product class.
Monitoring status of purchase orders and expedites on a regular basis. Updating the system information as data changes.
Communicating with manufacturers to maintain awareness of manufacturing and marketing strategy of manufacturers.
Advising management of changes in these immediately.
Building and developing relationships with key suppliers and customers.

Ability to read and understand fastener technical prints
Strong skills in cost reduction through alternative sourcing, negotiation, and commodity hedging.
High School Diploma or GED
Industry certification preferred (such as CPIM, CIRM, A.P.P. or C.P.M.).
Four-year degree (concentration in Supply Management, Operations Management, Industrial Distribution, Engineering or Accounting) preferred.

The Fastener Engineers role is to support the organizations fastener procurement and distribution activities including but not limited to fastener drawing interpretation, CAD/math interpretation and plotting. Obtaining and communicating fastener standards and specifications, providing guidance to management, peers, suppliers and Customers on fastener design requirements, and being a proactive proponent of the quality management system among others.
Interpretation of/and communicating fastener design requirements and specifications.
Obtain Customer design records; Plot data on CAD math models (as needed).
Participates in resolving quality issues with Customers and vendors/suppliers.
Enhance receiving inspection functions. ?
Assists in Advanced Product Quality Planning activities when needed.
Obtains temporary deviation(s) and/or concessions for products from customer(s) when required.
Maintain control of measuring/test equipment and calibration records.
Attend training sponsored and/or supported by the company.
Participate in problem solving initiatives resulting from Customer claims and opportunities for process improvement.
Assist in supplier development.
Communicate and control Customer Specific Requirements related to REACH, SVHC, Conflict Minerals, capacity surveys, etc., between suppliers and Customers.
Interface with Customer and supplier engineering entities when required.
Other activities as needed.

Conduct training in principles of bolted joint analysis for management, engineers, and designers
Perform Joint Design, Fastener Catalog Standard Part Release, and Validation Authority to develop fastening strategies for the vehicle
Work with FEA engineers to specify loads, define stress targets, and improve analysis methods for bolted joint analysis
Perform upfront analysis of bolted joint systems to optimize robustness and minimize costly redesigns
Assist Design Engineers in joint design and recommend fasteners based on usage, coating & part strength
Drive resolution of joint design issues between stakeholders
Achieve commonization of fasteners with assembly-friendly solutions
Plan, design, and document a company-wide fastener catalog based on best practices cost control and global availability
Manage the creation & maintenance of CAD & drawings (using CATIA v6)
Develop & Implement Testing strategy based on cooperation with test facilities to validate joints
Provide & release drawings, part names & numbers, and CAD into Enovia
Provide Design Engineers with testing support including samples and testing oversight
Track progress of fastener selection, release, and validation
Provide continuous improvement of processes by supporting line walks, best in class serviceability, assembly time reduction, and cost reduction initiatives
Promote and investigate new fastener technologies
5+ years of Fastener Engineering experience w/automotive OEM or supplier
Fastener lab testing experience (torque specification development)
Fastener selection/recommendation experience
Fastened joint design review experience
Fastener manufacturing experience
Good knowledge of 3D CAD modeling software (CATIA v6) for developing and designing product solutions. Ability to operate CAD and create packaging drawings and proposals as needed
Ability to read and understand component drawings

The initial focus for this job will include refining and publishing the Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Interconnection Standards for Distribution, completing DER Impact Studies, and providing support to Planning Engineers who are evaluating DER Interconnections.

Responds to and trouble-shoot equipment performance issues.
Identifies equipment malfunctions, systems hardware and software failures.

Assists with testing of all instrumentation used for quality control. Participates in intercomparison and calibration verifications of testing equipment.
Coordinates equipment service event with service contractors and MDACC engineering team. Follow up on service events to ensure/verify safety and proper imaging performance. Performs equipment quality assurance tests after service is completed as required.
Assists with commissioning of new equipment.
