UMass Memorial Health Care is the largest health care system in Central Massachusetts. We are the clinical partner of UMass Medical School, with access to the latest technology, research and clinical trials. Our health care system includes four hospitals:
- UMass Memorial Medical Center (Worcester)

In addition to our fully equipped medical centers, our system also includes home health and hospice programs, behavioral health programs and community-based physician practices.
This position includes operating telephone control board and paging system, dispatching incoming calls, and paging internal and on-call clinical staff during and after regular business hours.
High school diploma or equivalent. Medical Terminology certified or equivalent experience is helpful.
Must have knowledge and experience with MS Office products (specifically EXCEL). Must have accurate keyboarding skills. Good verbal and written communication skills to include proper vocabulary, spelling, grammar and sentence structure. Good customer service skills. Previous operator/switchboard and customer service experience preferred.
Must be able to work all shifts, weekends, and holidays as required.
Answers phones and routes incoming calls to appropriate offices or personnel; Dispatch emergency Code calls to clinical personnel.
Processes paperwork in an efficient manner according to set procedures. This includes proper filing and distribution of clinical on-call schedules and wireless devices.
Complies with established departmental policies, procedures and objectives.
Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
Respects diverse views and approaches, and contributes in maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.

PBX operators are the "voice of the hospital" and are a key component to the Patient Experience. The operator is expected to respond quickly and effectively to all telecommunication and electronic communication; phone, page, fax, email requests and be familiar with emergency code procedures. THIS POSITION IS A FULL-TIME, (12) MONTH, $ $32,760.00 ANNUALLY (LEVEL 8 OF THE CLASSIFIED SALARY SCHEDULE).

Campus hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Friday, and some weekend classes. The current hours of this position are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with some possible evenings and weekends. Hours of employment are subject to change based on student or departmental needs.
