Position Title: Fiber Network Engineer
Responsible for coordination, configuration, installation, and management of clients within the Data Center / Co-location facility including overall project management of new client lit service deployments, inside physical plant network infrastructure and related hardware / software administration. Duties also include post deployment performance management and maintenance (adds/moves/changes) within the facility. The position is integral to the deployment of active equipment at client locations, as may be required, and has key responsibility for the identification and resolution of hardware and software technical problems related to Crown Castle's co-location infrastructure. Incumbent is expected to make decisions that are critical in the areas of network throughput, problem solving, and infrastructure planning. The position proactively researches and locates necessary tools and processes to identify troublesome trends as they develop as well as participates in various special projects to upgrade and remain competitive with other co-location facilities on behalf of Crown Castle.
Essential Job Functions
Key participant in the design and deployment of company co-location and lit service products which include the physicalinside plant networkingand the Hardware / Software administration at the transport level, including routers, hubs, switches, and other cross connect fiber termination equipment.
Maintain SLA's for commercial Lit services clients regarding Network availability and interact with the Help Desk, including fault isolation & troubleshooting through final resolution of issues that may translate to network degradation or outage.
Respond to major events and outages as they occur and work through such issues until successfully resolved.
Develop and maintain Disaster Recovery procedures related to the Co-Location facility.
Provide facility maintenance to include budgets, schedules and reports as requested of all needs and transactions from Vendors, Customers and Core Network to appropriate Crown Castle Management.
Set and adhere to project deadlines and proactively manage communication with peers and clients relating to deployment of new services or modification of existing services.
Layout provision and project manage physical cage and footprint for Lit Service customers occupying co-locations center space.
Manage all co-location infrastructure including power distribution units, HAVC systems, emergency battery back- up, generators and alarming systems.
Make technology recommendations that will increase cost effectiveness and infrastructure flexibility.
Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping and co-location center client architectures.
Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking and co-location industry.
High school diploma or equivalent
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in a related discipline
Valid driver's license required
Three (3) to five (5) years' working within a carrier class collocation environment with experience in network capacity planning, hardened Data Center or Co-location facility management, and general network management best practices
Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and Internet standards, including LUCENT, CISCO, CIENA, and hands on experience with numerous types of optical, DWDM and Ethernet test equipment (ISP/OSP) but not limited to: ACTERNA, EXFO
Working knowledge of OSP Insight a plus and must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Proficiency in using Fiber Test Equipment, including OTDR and Power Meter test equipment
Experience and success with LAN, WAN, and WLAN design and implementation
Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills

This position performs all copper splicing functions, including but not limited to: splicing, testing (including pair continuity), acceptance, count verification of all types, sizes and gauges of PIC and paper insulated, color-coded and non-color coded copper cables.

Install, repair and test fiber in a variety of environments (underground and aerial).
Splice fiber optic cables, both loose tube and ribbon. Assemble splice case, including grounding, bonding, isolation, storage, and sealing.
Connects and rearranges cable facilities utilizes special test equipment to test for and locate trouble and perform cable completion tests.
Reads and interprets work prints and diagrams and remains familiar with current practices.
Test fibers as required by contract and work order.
Reviews and interprets underground and aerial cable records in existing records, on maps or in the field.
Makes precise recommendations for changes in running fiber optic cables, or provides input into construction methodologies.
Utilize the correct tools and test equipment for proper and safe performance of services.
Read and interprets blueprints and splice diagrams.
Perform routine maintenance and emergency repair as called upon. Recognize and repair fiber damage participate in fiber relocations.
Must always comply with proper safety standards/procedures and work practices according to MasTec's standard.
High School Diploma or GED;
Experience performing fiber optic cable splicing in a construction, installation, and/or maintenance environment;
Knowledge of common telecommunications outside and inside plant engineering, construction, installation, and operation;
Knowledge of fiber optic testing and troubleshooting using common industry test gear and tools;
Valid driver's license;

Low Voltage Copper And Fiber Technician

Shipboard Installation Technician - Fiber Cable Termination
Employee will perform shipboard installation efforts of Shipboard Alterations (SA) and Ordnance Alterations (OA) with a primary focus on working with Fiber Optic cables.
The employee will be tasked with performing as a team member performing this work. Tasking may also include the installation of shipboard cabinet modifications (i.e. OA).
The ability to spend the majority of time in a travel status (both domestic and international); work extended hours (overtime) as-required to meet schedule commitments; and possess a SECRET security clearance are required.
Experience with shipboard installations including:
Existing cable rip-out and roll-back [including megger testing & cable/connector inspection];
Fiber cable termination;
Finalizing installations for space turnover to ship's force (i.e. cable tagging/banding, final quality assurance inspections and remediation).
Ability to read and understand shipboard mechanical and electrical drawings.
Ability to work in a team environment with overall LM Alteration Installation Team (AIT) Leads and Technician Leads directing top level weekly/near term objectives.
Ability to complete certification training and renewals, as required.

Under general direction from the Project Manager, this position monitors the work of contractors to ensure quality control and contract compliance for projects of routine to moderate complexity.
- Position oversees, inspects, and monitors contractual field work which includes excavations, boring, placement on handhole, aerial strand and fiber cable installation, and restoration of work areas.
- Schedules work and inspection phases with contractor’s superintendent and agency personnel.
- Advises contractors of violations and recommends adjustments to operations.
- Takes field measurements of to verify contractor billing; checks placement of and performs quality reviews of construction.
- Recommends changes to construction plans to meet field conditions or provide project cost savings.
