Dry Kiln Supervisor - St. Maries, ID Lumber Mill
Provide first-line supervisory duties to the Dry Kilns, Hurst Boiler, Dry and Green yard of the Planer and Sawmill. Responsible for safely and efficiently producing high quality kiln dried lumber, supervising the kilns, Hurst Boiler, green/dry lumberyards, and training kiln/boiler operators. Manage the quality control efforts of the kiln area and serve as the key contact with the green end quality control efforts. Oversee quality control issues throughout the plant to ensure a quality product is being produced.
Leadership/Supervisory:
Supervise hourly production employees for the boiler, green/dry yard and dry kilns. Manage the activities of all employees to ensure that all kiln and surfacing activities are conducted according to best industry standards.
Train and coach employees to run the Hurst boiler and keep it in good working order and in compliance with our operating permit at all times.
Supervise and coordinate all maintenance on the boiler and kilns.
Supervise and lead the annual boiler shutdowns.
Inspect proper stacking & storage of green lumber and proper kiln package construction. Ensure proper kiln loading, operation and maintenance to achieve uniform drying conditions. Manage inventory-tracking procedures and ensure accuracy.
Train kiln operators and lift truck drivers in best of class kiln operating procedures.
Reorganize the quality control efforts in the kilns to enhance mill returns.
Must be able to meet and or exceed budgeted key business indicators, which includes: kiln uptime, grade recovery, waste and productivity
Identify cost saving opportunities in all areas of responsibility, assure quality of production and work directly with quality control to manage quality issues.
Support employee involvement and assume leadership role to bring the plant/complex to a high-performance organization. Understand and support the key corporate strategies.
Supervise work group while being responsible for yearly evaluations, disciplinary actions, and continued training/improvement for all employees.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
This position exists primarily for the purpose of developing internal store manager bench from the assistant store manager population, although external candidates will also be in the program. It is a position to be used to give store manager candidates more experience prior to becoming a store manager, and is to be held for a specified period.
DUTIES and ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
