DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Set up and operate various machine tools consistent with the Tool & Die trade including but not limited to Lathes, Mills, Drills, Saws, Shapers, Die repair and rework, etc. in order to produce required product from prints, samples, and sketches, etc.

Designs, machines, fits, assembles and finishes metal alloys to make and repair various types of tools, jigs, fixtures, punches, molds, gauges and types of intricate and complicated dies (sectional, progressive, compound ground, combinations blanking, piercing and forming, drawing and similar dies to high tolerances.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Studies blueprints of die and product, die models, templates, and prototype parts and visualizes shape, mechanical structure, and operation of die.
Computes dimensions, plans machining, layout and assembly operations.
Measures, marks, and scribes metal stock for machining.
Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathe, milling machines, drill press and grinder.
Manufacture parts to specifications and verifies conformance of machine parts to specifications.
Verifies dimensions, clearances and alignment of members and parts in die.
Dowels and bolts parts together.
Fits and assembles cam operated mechanisms for lateral movements of die.
Smoothes flat and contoured surfaces and fits parts to each other.
Dismantles die and repairs or replaces parts.
Ensures quality of parts before forwarding them to the next operation.
Works to tolerances as close as 0.0005 inch.

Maintain, Repair and Build Dies, Jigs, Fixtures and Detailed Tooling Components. Install and repair die tooling, working with Progressive Stamping Presses. Able to trouble-shoot probable causes of defective parts pertaining to tool & die repairs. Able to use root-cause failure analysis to make improvements. This position is responsible for supporting the Molding operation. Must have a basic knowledge of what a mold is and how it functions. This individual will collaborate and organize internal resources to complete mold maintenance work across business units in a timely and cost effective manner. Must have a big picture view of the molding operation to determine the urgency of work, understand a PM system and the ability to document and record critical data; must have a proven strong mechanical and technical background and the ability to troubleshoot and problem solve.
Must have the ability to run machine tools in the shop, (mills, lathes, grinders, torches, heat treat, saws, and CNC equipment) as well as thorough knowledge of steels and applications as well as a basic concept of electrical
Disassemble molds and determine parts needing to be repaired or replaced.
Clean mold plates and all components.
Check for proper gating, venting and cooling of mold.
Record and maintain all maintenance documentation as required.
Polish cavities and cores to specified finishes.
Must be able to troubleshoot and analyze problems with molds.
Read and understand blueprints, sketches, and schematics relating to molds.
Have the ability to use all measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators, travel dials, and their applications) to measure and determine proper mold and component fits and tolerances within .0002" to .0005".
Wire molds and read an OHM meter to understand basic electrical issues in diagnosing heater and thermal couple failures.
Construct or rebuild mold components per prints, using any or all machine tools available in Mold Repair area as well as the Tool Room.
Assemble mold and components maintaining proper dimensional tolerances.
Maintains an extremely clean and safe work area with an emphasis on 5"s.
Participate in continuous improvement activities.
