Under the immediate supervision of the Project Leader, this position is responsible for assisting with habitat management, infrastructure maintenance, equipment maintenance, public use, and research within the South Texas Ecosystem Project on the Chaparral Wildlife Management Area (WMA). Work involves the collection of biological data and assisting with wildlife research projects as assigned. Main emphasis will be on the management of wildlife habitat and maintaining and repairing infrastructure/complex equipment needed for research, habitat management or maintenance activities. Assists with public hunting and other public use programs on assigned area where applicable. Provides wildlife management information to hunters, land managers, other user groups and the general public. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division Branch rules, regulations and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the Fish and Wildlife Technician 1 position which are as follows: 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.
Duties Description The technician in this position would be collecting and analyzing acoustic data to determine the summer distribution of Myotid bats on Long Island. Job duties would include interpreting aerial images to identify appropriate survey locations, setup and maintenance of sound recording equipment, data management and analysis of recorded bat calls.
Additional Comments Must have valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and work in remote areas and adverse weather conditions.
Travel and overtime may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to work independently. Experience with acoustic equipment and software analysis would be preferred. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and ArcGIS preferred.

- Assist District Wildlife staff with upland game bird management: Conduct/assist with upland game bird production surveys.

Working Conditions • Requires daily travel on unimproved, single-lane gravel or native surface roads in a variety of conditions.
- Work includes frequent exposure to all types of weather conditions and possible foot travel over steep and uneven terrain.

Performs routine and preventive maintenance as needed to ensure ongoing functioning of HVAC systems
Requisitions material and supplies, calls vendors to discuss needs for parts and supplies, and recommends purchases and suppliers
Coordinates with other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently
Responds to emergency situations during or after hours to resolve immediate safety concerns
Follows all safety policies and procedures
Completes any reports or logs
Performs other duties as assigned
High school diploma or GED required
Three to five years of progressive and relevant experience
Able to bend, kneel, squat, stand, and lift heavy objects as needed
Available for emergency on-call 24/7
