DIS-TRAN Steel, located in Pineville, LA, is looking for an experienced Fitter to join our team. Fitters will interpret blueprints to tack fit structures including tubular steel transmission poles, latticed transmission towers, substation deadend and support structures and other specialty structures. The Fitter must be capable of fitting steel layouts according to specifications. This individual must be able to perform duties with speed and accuracy in order to produce a quality product and keep a steady flow of products. This position will frequently use calculating skills, by tape measure or other device. This position will use other moving machinery or equipment, including cranes, in order to manipulate steel structures.

REQUIREMENTS FOR FITTER II:
Experience in tack fitting steel structures with accuracy and high quality is the minimum requirement.
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
Acute attention to detail is required.
Ability to interpret blueprints and read a tape measure required.
Welding / fitting certification or prior fitting experience with the successful passing of DIS-TRAN Steel's Fitter II test is required.
Ability to produce accurate, high quality welds in all applications, with various material types; makes all welds neatly and consistently; ability to weld within weld procedure is required.
Ability to use standard set of weld gauges is required.
Ability to properly set, maintain, and troubleshoot welding equipment is required.
Capable of reading and understanding welding symbols and preparing all joints as required; GMAW experience required.

Duties: Fit and/or Weld fabricated steel components in the assembly and production of new build fabrication equipment while complying with company Health, Safety, and Environmental Processes. Responsible for fabrication, welding requirements including manual, semi-automatic, Automatic and all-position including using oxygen/fuel gas torch for cutting or pre-heat. Perform material fitting work including lay-out and fit-up welded or bolted detail.

Specific Job Skills:
Preference will be given to applicants with pressure vessel or tank experience.
Sub-Arc welding and Dual Shield. NQA-1 or similarly, highly documented work experience is a plus.
Safely perform work in small and/or confined spaces, on ladders, and at heights of 20 feet or more.
Recognize and resolve unsafe working conditions.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

REQUIREMENTS TO FILE

A. Certification as a pipeline welder (proof required)* AND one year of experience welding pipelines that must include Pipe Fitter experience.
B. One year experience welding pipelines AND a Certificate of Completion from a Pipe Fitter program or apprenticeship (proof required)*.

Some core responsibilities for a bolt-up fitter include:
Tighten and loosen bolts on flange connections and man-ways as per ISO drawings and work plan.
Assist with installation/removal of blinds as needed for pressure testing purposes.
Possess skilled knowledge of pipe fittings, bolts, valves, etc. as required.
Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment according to specifications.
Use impact wrenches, combination wrenches, and line up pins to install valves and piping spools.

Master Fitter Welder I Learner
The Master Fitter/Welder performs operations necessary to assemble, fit, weld and test complete assemblies to comply with ASME, and national board requirements which require a thorough knowledge of a variety of refrigerants.
Requires the ability to work from complex assembly drawings, use a variety of hand, pneumatic and electric power tools, welding equipment, positioners, pressure regulators, etc.Must follow T00505-1 for proper fastener tightening and demonstrate proper use of a torque wrench
Cut, bend, thread, and assemble pipe
Mount and assemble compressor units, and fit-up piping and tubing of various sizes and configurations. Make up special brackets lay out and drill mounting locations and assemble units. Weld frames, bases, brackets, and other structural welding.
Align and mount motors and compressors using all associated tools and instruments.
Mount gauges and instruments. Perform leak tests as required per T35064.
Evacuate assemblies as required and install holding charge
Must be certified to weld with the following processes:
GMAW (STT root pass)
Must be able to utilize applicable measuring gauges
Participate on cross-functional teams to address and resolve quality issues and problems, and to ensure the continuous, on-going improvement of processes and methods.
Organize and complete as necessary the required paperwork for the package units

Pipefitters are responsible for installing these complex systems together on the ship and in the shop: more than 23 miles of pipe are installed on a submarine, and more than 230 miles of pipe are installed on a carrier. As a pipefitter, you will learn to read blueprints, fabricate, install, inspect, and test the many piping systems onboard a ship.
In your first few weeks at the company you will attend a Fundamentals of Piping Fitting class where you will receive important information needed for you to perform you job. During your career you will also receive other training need to enhance your knowledge of the job.
