Fitters are often called the "CARPENTERS" of shipbuilding or "ARTISTS OF STEEL".
Fitters read, interpret, plan and execute from drawings and procedures.
Fitters measure, cut, grind, fit, align and tack weld parts as small as your finger nail to the large sub-assemblies and super lifts that form the structural body of the ship.
Fitters build in-place all interior structures, hatches, doors, bulkheads, etc., to complete all the steel work in the ship.
A fitter will apply their skills in the shops, platens, dry-docks and onboard ships in support of new construction, ship repair and ship overhauls.
- Available for 5 or more years of experience.
REQUIRED - Minimum of 3 years of Experience (Fitter, Carpentry, Construction, Sheet Metal, Welding, HVAC, Mechanical etc.) to be considered
Must be able to pass a Physical Agility Test
Must be able to learn to read, interpret and utilize blueprints
Must be able to use a variety of tools and measuring devices during this process
Must be able to learn to cut, grind, shape, fit and tack weld steel plates
This is a construction environment involving extreme heights, confined spaces, physical labor and various weather conditions within a shipyard environment
MUST be able to work ALL assigned shift hours as production needs dictate
Must be able to wear a respirator

Performs skilled work in installation, maintenance, and repair of high and low pressure steam distribution systems, condensate return systems, and equipment. Reports to HVAC Superintendent or other designated supervisor.

Installs, replaces and repairs high and low pressure steam, hot water, and heating lines, expansion joints, traps, regulators, bearings, valves, pumps, heaters, heat exchanges, coils, and other parts; repairs kitchen and laundry equipment; covers steam pipes and heaters with insulation material; and performs preventive maintenance on equipment; maintains log of repairs.
Orders parts and materials, reports low supply levels to supervisor.
Drives vehicle to pick up and deliver personnel and materials.
May train and direct student employees or employees in a lower pay grade; may participate in training new employees.
Assists other skilled tradespersons.
Performs related duties as required.
Additional Examples of Duties – if applicable:
A minimum of three years experience in steamfitting, welding, plumbing, and HVAC (or an equivalent combination of education or experience which provides comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities).
Valid Ohio driver's license with safe driving record.Must be eligible to be certified by the State of Ohio to weld high pressure steel piping with a diameter of 2 7/8" or greater (6" pipe test) and schedule 40 and 80 thickness. Employment in this classification is contingent upon a valid State certification prior to completion of probationary period or, when a probationary period is not involved, prior to assignment to classification.

SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION
The Gas Combination Welder Fitter is a Journeyman Gasman certified to weld steel pipes that are part of the gas distribution system (i.e. lower pressure gas pipes). When not performing welding tasks, they operate as a Gasman performing construction and maintenance tasks to maintain and support the gas distribution system.
DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Install pipe and set up meters
Weld steel pipe in accordance with Appendix C of 49 CFR, Part 192
Fuse plastic pipe, clean joints for clamping, wrap pipes and joints, hand-shovel dirt to backfill trenches, assist in scheduled leak surveys, assist in snow removal and manhole pumping, operate necessary tools, and install meters
Participate in on-call rotation schedules, work evenings and weekend shifts'especially in response to acute service needs
Interact with the public
Act as a job leadman overseeing all aspects of a project, including safety and planning
Complete all documentation for project planning and completion
Assume leadership role in response to emergency situations
Work as a team member to safely and efficiently complete work activities

Under general supervision performs all kinds of repairs and construction work on gas mains and services,

Placing/fitting recommended durable medical soft goods by Physician on patients. Responsible for product knowledge and complex billing rules surrounding a variety of medical equipment and supplies.
Responsible for maintaining inventory. Maintaining/cleaning department equipment. Identifies patient needs by asking clarifying questions to effectively promote our products and service.
Education/Experience: One or more years of sales or customer service experience in a DME or business environment with high service standards required. Sales and customer service training a plus.
Experience with inventory management, electronic health care management software, merchandising and performing retail transactions preferred. Special Knowledge/Skills/Certifications/Licenses: Requires Certified Orthotic Fitter (COF) License.
Must have customer service and sales skills, verbal communication, and telephone etiquette skills. Needs ability to solve complex problems and work independently. Basic PC knowledge including:
Windows and Microsoft Outlook preferred. Demonstrates knowledge of age-related growth and development principles necessary to provide appropriate service and insure safety of patients. Knowledge of home medical supplies and equipment, product lines and insurance guidelines for reimbursement is desirable.
The candidate will be at TRIA Maple Grove with initial training at Bloomington TRIA. The Orthotic Fitter works on the clinic floor placing and fitting non customized product with a Certified Licensed Fitter: Certification is required after 1000 hours of patient care experience and completion of a NCOPE-approved orthotic fitter educational program to become a BOC certified Minnesota Licensed Orthotic Fitter.
