Job Description Under direct supervision, makes and repairs tools, dies and jigs. Analyzes specifications, lays-out metal stock, sets up and operates machine tools.
Fits and assembles parts to fabricate and repair metal working dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools. Modifies dies to conform to engineering changes. Troubleshoots and repairs some equipment.

Must possess the ability to accurately use measurement devices such as scales, calipers, indicators, micrometers, squares, surface plates, optical comparators and gages. Able to work from blueprints, diagrams, sketches, schematics, charts, or verbal instructions. Basic knowledge of how to tear down units, trouble shoot for problems, determine extent of troubles, repair damage mechanism or replace worn or defective parts and reassemble. Some knowledge of how to select the best material suited for specific purposes, troubleshoot and diagnose problems with metalworking dies and other tooling. Must be able to move at least 50 pounds. Job Summary AECOM is seeking a 1 st shift Tool & Fixture Machinist to join our facility maintenance team of multi-skilled technicians in a jet engine manufacturing facility in Durham, NC.
- Typical work hours are Monday-Friday, 6:30am – 3:00pm; hours may vary based on business demand. The Tool & Fixture Machinist is responsible for machining / maintaining tooling and die fixtures and for assisting Mechanical and Electrical technicians in responding and providing service and feedback to the customer on all work orders related to tooling and performing preventive maintenance on the tooling, dies and fixtures in an industrial or large commercial environment. This position supports the daily functions within our maintenance department, primarily performing machining of the tooling, assisting in die set up and changes, and performing routine PM’s, as well as some troubleshooting and repair of fixtures and equipment. This equipment includes, but is not limited to: die fixtures; CNC machine tools; pumps, bearings, blowers, fans, gearboxes, and air handlers; pneumatic, hydraulic, conveyor and/or R.O. systems; and overhead cranes. Provides instruction, mentors and trains less skilled technicians as needed. Effectively communicates with the site management team and the customer to understand requirements, solve electrical problems, and provide solutions to manufacturing problems. The Tool & Fixture Machinist IV must have the ability to identify and correct any safety-related issues and perform independent equipment evaluations to identify potential equipment failures. General Maintenance of equipment will also be required.
Assists with set up, maintenance and installation of die fixtures.
Assists co-workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment.
Assists the team with maintaining, operating and troubleshooting mechanical systems and equipment such as pumps, bearings, blowers, fans, gearboxes, conveyors and other equipment as required.

Knowledgeable on all other machining and fabrication processes, materials selection, cutting tooling and heat treat processes . Reads machining drawings and familiar with dimensional and geometric tolerances. + Assemble/disassemble tooling/fixtures as needed to build, repair or troubleshoot. Reads and interprets tooling assembly drawings of complex tooling assemblies. Familiar with fits, alignments, threads, clearances, surface finishes and lubricants.
Supports/coordinates any subcontract machining activity for work that site is unable or unwilling to perform onsite in the tool room.
Interfaces with the Assembly and Test Engineering team as required.
Recommends activities to improve maintenance methods and equipment performance.
Understands company policies and enforces safety regulations.
Safely performs functions of the position including following proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis and lockout/tagout procedures and wearing PPE as required.
Operates a variety of equipment such as hand tools, laptop computers and diagnostic hardware to perform work.
Demonstrates flexibility in the day-to-day activities and scheduling for the benefit of the customer.
