Tree Trimmer II
The City of Norfolk's Department of Recreation, Parks and Open Space, Bureau of Parks and Urban Forestry is seeking professionally skilled Tree Trimmers II to perform skilled arboriculture practices on street, park and facility trees utilizing a variety of specialized heavy, power equipment, climbing saddles, ropes, and hand tools.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Safely climbs, trims, prunes, removes and sprays trees as directed utilizing all personal protective gear.
Cleans work area by raking, sweeping, and using a blower to remove all debris.
Operates and maintains vehicles and equipment by checking fluid levels, tire pressure, fuses and light bulbs, cleaning, adjusting and sharpening chainsaws, changing blades, and greasing equipment.
Leads crew members in the absence of a crew leader by completing work, and delegating work assignments to completion, completing and filing daily work reports, and making log book entries.
Responds to emergencies by remaining on call after hours and during severe weather to remove trees and debris from raodways.
Interprets safety regulations and exercises professional judgment.
Ability to climb trees, work at considerable heights and in tight spaces, lift, straddle, bend and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity while using hand and power tools; ability to climb and operate multi-gear transmissions on a variety of vehicles.
Requires ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time (8 hours per day), lift up to 75 lbs. on a regular basis, bend, stoop, push, pull and work in adverse weather conditions.
Ability to plan, coordinate, schedule and direct a crew in accomplishing tree trimming and grounds maintenance activities.
Knowledge of pesticide mixing and applications; ability to read labels on chemicals and pesticides.
Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
Two years experience in professional tree care and one year experience in supervision or equivalent combination of education beyond high school and experience.

Valid driver's license required.
Valid Virginia Commercial Driver's license must be obtained within six (6) months of hire.
Commercial Pesticide Technician Certification must be obtained within six (6) months of hire.
CPR/First Aid Certification must be obtained within six (6) months of hire.

Employees in this job perform as welders responsible for welding of heavy equipment trailer frames and heavy equipment portable skids.
The job duties listed are typical examples of the work performed by positions in this job classification. Not all duties assigned to every position are included, nor is it expected that all positions will be assigned every duty.
Studies drawings and prints of work to be performed and determines operations to be performed and materials required.
Lays out, positions, aligns, or otherwise sets pieces in place preparatory to cutting and welding, and measures dimensions for conformance to specifications.
Cleans parts to be welded using wire brushes and grinders.
Sets up, adjusts, and operates such welding equipment as electric arc welders, gas welders, and selects proper electrodes, gas orifices, torch tips, etc. based on type of material being welded.
Fabricates and performs welding on trailer frames and skids including components and sub-components of these frames and skids.
Must have his/her own tools to perform this job.
Cleans and maintains tools and equipment used in the work.
Operates overhead bridge cranes as necessary to perform work.
Must be able to climb and work from ladders, scaffolding, and man lifts in a safe manner.
Must completely follow shop related safety protocol, policies, and procedures.
Must wear all required PPE.
Must be able to work flexible hours including overtime and weekends.

Frame & Skid Welder Levels:
Apprentice Level: An individual designated as an entry level welder obtaining experience through on the job training or other organized and systematic form of instruction. This individual is still learning knowledge of theoretical and technical subjects and criteria related to welding.
Journeyman Level: An individual who has documented sufficient skills and knowledge of the welding trade and occupation, either through formal apprenticeship or through practical on the job experience, and formal training. This individual is recognized as being specifically qualified to perform a full range of welder assignments and uses independent judgment in making decisions where alternatives are determined by established procedures, methods and practices.
Master Level: This is the advanced level and refers to an individual maintaining or recognized as a mentor or specialist. This individual knows how to provide instruction and training in the proper methods and processes necessary to carry out the most complex assignments. This individual can resolve either theoretical or technical problems and can definitively answer questions for other welders.

The Frame Joiner is responsible for the joining and assembly of wall décor and custom frames. This position works in a team environment to accomplish the common goal of producing and assembling wall décor and custom frames for distribution. Employees will be trained in multiple disciplines including but not limited to: identifying various types of frame molding, accurate joining of frame molding, assembling and joining of frames, and production of wall décor and custom frames.
