The UWM Prototyping Center is home to several of the most advanced prototyping and machining centers available to be able to fabricate nearly anything. But to operate the equipment to produce successful prototypes, it takes our staff of experienced machinists, model makers, and engineers. Custom parts for varieties of industries are designed, developed, and fabricated for anyone from campus researchers to private sector goliaths to independent entrepreneurs. Development efficiency is achieved from combining the unique capabilities of each machining center to best carry out the fabrication of components. Iterations of highly-complex designs are streamlined due to the rare integration of engineering and CNC machining centers being just steps away to provide a cost-effective means of achieving success quickly.
This is advanced level Instrument Maker work in a client-facing role. The work performed is similar to the journey-level except that employees at this level are significantly more involved in the design phase of highly specialized parts, machinery and instruments. Advanced instrument makers are in constant contact with the user or client, for example graduate students, professors and researchers, or external private entities functioning as a consultant to them. In addition, advanced level instrument makers are often responsible for coordinating, assembling and testing projects. The projects may last six months to a couple of years and require thousands of individual parts. Also, employees at this level are considered experts (i.e., they have advanced knowledge, skills and experience) in a specialized area, such as, but not limited to, welding, Computer Aided Design (CAD)/Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM)/Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) equipment, complex project coordination or student machine shop coordination with an emphasis on providing instruments for advanced scientific research. Employees, who are considered experts, spend a majority of their time in that particular area of expertise. Communication skills and the ability to foster relationships are mandatory to be able to meet, update, and continue long-term relationships with clients.

Evidence of experience with interpreting, reading, writing, and creating conversational programming CNC equipment (e.g., CNC 3-axis, 5-axis, Lathe, and EDM equipment, etc.);
Experience with setting up, operating, and editing programs and parameters with the CNC machines;
Evidence of experience with manual machining using various tools (e.g., end mills, lathes, saws, grinders, sheet metal benders, hand tools, etc.);
Metrology knowledge as evidenced by experience using precision instruments to gauge part dimension;
Expertise in manual TIG and MIG welding of various alloys/metals (e.g. steels, stainless steels, aluminums, etc.);
Knowledge of, evidenced by experience, with OSHA safety standards;
Experience with fabrication and tooling methods (e.g. vacuum forming, casting, extrusions, injection molding, stamping, forging, heat treating, etc.).
Expertise in 2D and 3D CAD modeling with SolidWorks;
Expertise in CAM programming with HSMWorks for 3D toolpaths for CNC 3-axis End Mills, 5-axis End Mills, Lathe, and EDM equipment;
Experience in 3D printing with knowledge of the FDM process;
Experience in scanning and post-processing 3D data for surface meshing, reverse engineering, and part inspection;
Expertise in 2D CAM programming with EnRoute for 2D toolpaths for CNC 2-axis plasma cutting (or laser-cutting experience);
Prior consultancy experience in fabrication, design, or engineering with knowledge and understanding of the cost of doing a project;
Experience in a wide variety of fabrication and prototyping industries.

The following job/task functions have been identified as the core functions of this position. However, the supervisor or manager may assign additional duties associated with this position.
- Performs all duties and operates machinery & equipment according to MIOSHA standards and company procedures using required safety equipment (gloves, sleeves, ear plugs, etc)

- Smooth flat and contoured surfaces to fit and assemble parts together into assemblies and mechanisms
- Verifies dimensions, alignments and clearances
- Perform hand operations involved in producing jigs, fixtures, tools and dies. Uses hand tools of the trade
- Determine specifications for inspection of work, using full range of precision measuring and gauging tools to perform inspection before, during and after machining

Mold Maker Main Duties/
Responsible for all aspects of too/mold design, new product development, and production of parts, jigs, and fixtures.
Performs repairs, set-up, and trouble- shooting of molds and dies; following prints and other written and verbal specifications.
Studies blueprints, sketches, models, work instructions, and specifications to produce fabricating tools, dies, injection molds, jigs, fixtures and assemblies using a variety of machine operations within close tolerances.

Plans construction procedures and methods, selecting the proper materials.
Makes allowances for shrinkage during heat treating of tools and metal flow in dies.

Experience & Education: Must have successfully completed an apprenticeship training program and have a certification of completion along with 7+ years of experience in a metal stamping facility as a Tool & Die Maker.

Our Little Chute client is looking to hire a full time Temp-to-Hire Commercial Cabinet Maker/Installer. They are open to someone who has previous cabinet making experience OR training a candidate.
Candidate will be assisting with production of custom cabinetry, assembling cabinets, and working with high pressure laminate manufacturing. You will also be putting edges on shelves, counters, etc, (They call this edge banding, T molding & self-edge banding.)
They have 20 employees, are busy, and offer a casual atmosphere with various company outings throughout the year. They offer a great flexible schedule for employees as well!
Requirements for Commercial Cabinet Maker/Installer:
1 year of manufacturing, labor, construction or similar experience is needed.
Experience in cabinetry trade or wood working, etc is helpful but not required.
Preference to those who have used any of the following: drills, hand saws, table saws, etc.
Ability to add, subtracts, multiply.
Must have good measuring skills and be able to lift 50 pounds.

- Operate lead-cutting machine to trim lead frames to proper size as specified by customer.

- Move materials as necessary in performance of duties. May also be moved by others.
- Detect and report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials and unusual conditions to group leader or supervisor.
