Leading 15 indirect reports within the B&F Functional Group developing and implementing Best Practice for standard operation procedures throughout the manufacturing plants.
Conduct OEG Plant Reviews covering the B&F Best Practices
Support continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing plants
Formulating & implementing of the operational excellence B&F strategy
Work closely with Glass Technology department to assure the most optimal furnace performance for standard glass.
Organize and direct the Functional Group operation of the furnace and batch mixing facilities ensuring consistent quality glass through the most efficient use of energy and equipment.

Environment & Physical requirements

Manage and direct E.B. Furnace operations to achieve optimum utilization of manpower and equipment.

Perform various cleaning, monitoring and securing operations to assist in the set-up of a vacuum atomization furnace.
Work from verbal and written instructions to perform repetitive tasks before and after the and when required during the atomization process.
Assist in preparing raw material charges, running the furnace control board, making minor repairs on the furnace, atomization chamber, and other auxiliary equipment, cleaning the atomization chamber, carry out housekeeping duties.
Assist in the removal and replacement furnace lid and coils. Cleaning the interior of the furnace chamber and "O" ring seal.
Clean raw material charge and transport to charge area. As directed assist in the attachment and detachment of gas, electric, and water lines to furnace lid and tank. Utilizing electric hoist remove and replace furnace lid from furnace chamber. Clean inside of crucibles, patch cracks and performs other repair tasks of crucible prior to next run.

Responsible for learning furnace operating processes in obtaining high quality results of brazing, hardness and mechanical properties of sheet metal aircraft components.

Prepare parts for loading into furnace, including wiping and final cleaning as necessary.
Evaluate load configuration, load on racks or grids for economical batch size and furnace hot zone limits.

Responsible for glass quality and supervise all batch, melting and temperate tests and analyses.
Operates furnace in accordance with applicable permits.
Ensures effective management of department's labor and expense budget
Remain consistent with lean six sigma principles, ensure the development of a continuous improvement culture within the Plant by involving relevant salary and hourly workforce in the on going identification, development and implementation of improvements to the manufacturing process / performance, ie: implementation of lean six sigma principles.
Communicates and directs the application of prescribed safety and environmental regulations

SCOPE AND IMPACT
The position's emphasis is to provide direct supervision and leadership of the furnace operations, batch mixing and batch delivery systems through the most efficient use of manpower, equipment and energy to provide high levels of technical service, while working in partnership with the Production and Quality Managers to produce glass containers at continuously improving levels of quality and efficiency. Responsible for technical competence, knowledge and skills necessary for the overall performance for the batching and furnace operations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in Ceramic, Chemical, Materials Science or related Engineering field preferred
Demonstrated leadership abilities and strong interpersonal skills at all levels of the organization.
(Include a current organization chart; include both old & new org charts for Department re-organizations)
This position reports to the Plant Engineer.
Direct reports to this position can include: Combustion Engineer.
There may be some travel associated with this position for training and/or project work.
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
