Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Establish a safe, clean and productive work environment with a focus on housekeeping and zero injuries.
Implement process improvements within the finishing department to improve productivity and efficiency.
Lead and educate a team of finishers and coordinate day to day activities as directed by supervisor.
- Meet project budgets and coordinate work with loading crew to meet shipping schedules.
- Knowledge of all aspects of finishing concrete including: etching, sand blasting, and patching with gray or colored concrete.
Must be able to manage multiple tasks and deal with changing workloads.
Must have good leadership skills and may supervise multiple crews.
Good communication skills are required, must work well with others even in stressful situations.
Must be able to read and understand prints and shop drawings.
Ability to obtain and maintain a clean driving record.

Floor Finisher (8A-430P, Every Other Weekend)
HOURS: 8a-430p, every other weekend.
Perform major cleaning of floors (including both hard surfaces and carpet) and major wall cleaning, in accordance with the standard procedures.
Scrub floors to remove all soil and finish to base of floor material. Remove splash marks from baseboards, walls and doors.
Refinish floor to glossy, depth shine. Shampoo and remove spots from carpeted floor areas. Assist in cleaning of emergency spills observed or upon request.
Maintain assigned equipment for cleanliness and report the need for repairs to equipment, furniture, building and fixtures. Assist in maintaining main housekeeping storage area in a clean manner. Perform necessary wall washing tasks as assigned.
Move furniture on a non-routine basis as assigned. Follow all universal precautions, bloodborne pathogen procedures and uses personal protective equipment as needed while cleaning patient care areas. May be required to bleach rubber floors as needed.
May be required to assist with the removal of trash, soiled linen and bio-medical waste. Perform related duties as assigned.

Metal Plate Finisher
Performs all types of Metal Plating in the Plating Department using prescribed solutions,
materials, and equipment. Embrace and engage in the Honeywell Operating System (HOS)
including activities, but not limited to 5S, Continuous Improvement (Kaizen), Standard Work,
Rapid Problem Solving, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and Knowledge Sharing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Somewhat diversified work to do any plating job in department including small rack and barrel plating, solvent degreasing, brite dipping, polishing, sand blasting, or miscellaneous departmental jobs. Mix own acid and brite dipping solutions using methods layouts and may have to make additions of chemicals as required. (Other plating solution kept up by maintenance crew.) Perform periodic analysis of chemicals as required Checks and records plating thickness as required. Judgment necessary to follow prescribed procedures in order to maintain workmanship standards.
May be subject to NADCAP requirements.
Minimum -1- year experience in Metal Finish Plating.
High School or GED
Sustained physical effort handling parts, racks, and containers filled with parts and materials.
Must be able to lift heavy baskets in and out of tanks and operate mechanical hoist.
Exposed to varying degrees of dust, dirt, fumes, noise, etc. making job somewhat disagreeable.
Protective gloves, footwear, eyewear, long pants and aprons use required.

This job posting is located primarily in the Streets, Traffic, and Drainage Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department and is under the direction of an immediate supervisor. The Concrete Finisher's tasks vary in nature depending upon the assignment. The incumbent may be responsible for training and supervising less experienced employees. Painter Finisher Special
Decorative painters apply exterior finish to commercial aircraft. They prepare the exterior surfaces of airplanes for painting by cleaning, stripping, abrading, and chemically treating as necessary, masking, then apply the paints and finishes and touch-up details.
Types of painting may include free-form, MICA, gradient fade (layout only), blend fade (painting only), and decal application.
Employment in this position also requires lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling up to 35 pounds, rotation of head/neck, standing, walking, crawling, crouching, kneeling, exposure to noise, atmospheric conditions, elevated platforms and the use of personal safety gear for face, eyes and ears.
Additional Tasks, Duties and
Obtain daily work assignment from lead or supervisor.
Obtain appropriate engineering drawings for assigned job.
Operate mechanical lifts of various types (e.g., cranes, scissor lifts, elevated work platforms, wing stands, tail stands, and high ranger) in order to access work.
Prepare exterior of aircraft for finishing by removing tape and seal residue using solvents or by abrading (sanding), and removing Temporary Protective Coating using alkaline cleaner and high pressure water spray.
Clean exterior of aircraft using a mixture of various solvents and/or chemical/paint strippers.
Prepare aircraft skins for application of chemical etching, by power abrading using jitterbug sander and Scotch-Brite.
Apply chemicals and neutralize with water per specifications and drawing requirements.
Seal areas that may have been omitted in previous processes such as final assembly travelers.
Verify aircraft is ready for exterior finish by selling in-process inspections to Boeing Quality Assurance (QA) and Customer. Mask off areas that do not require finish per Installation Plan (IP) and drawing requirements. Wipe areas to be painted with tack cloth to remove any dust particles. Apply conversion coating per specifications and drawing requirements.
Clean and adjust spray equipment and ensure that equipment is functioning properly. Apply primer and topcoat to engineering and QA specifications (e.g., thickness, gloss, appearance) prior to laying out templates and patterns for decorative finish. Lay out areas for decorative finish using patterns, templates, stencils, and laser and apply paint to designated locations (e.g., body, tail, wings, and engine cowlings).
Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in an approved manner (e.g., solvents, thinners, paints). Clean up work areas and re-stock masking and painting supplies. Maintain personal and tool certifications.

VETERANS PREFERENCE NOTE: The City of Chicago offers Veterans Preference to both current, active military personnel AND military personnel who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received an honorable or general discharge.
Eligible candidates must have at least six months of active duty documented. In order to receive the veterans preference, candidates need to indicate whether or not they are a veteran by answering "yes" or "no" to the question on the online application that asks, "Are you currently serving on active duty for at least six months in the Armed Forces of the United States OR have you served in the Armed Forces of the United States on active duty for at least six months and received an honorable or general discharge?" In addition, you must attach documentation to verify your military service.
For veterans, you must attach a copy of your DD214 (Member Copy-4) to your online application which includes character of service status OR a letter from the United States Veterans Administration on official stationary stating dates of service and character of service.
For active military personnel, you must attach a letter from your Commanding Officer on official stationary verifying your active duty, length of service, and character of service in the Armed Forces of the United States AND a copy of your military ID to your online application. Failure to answer the question and attach the required documentation will result in you not being considered for the Veterans Preference.
Residency Requirement: All employees of the City of Chicago must be actual residents of the City as outlined in 2-152-050 of the City of Chicago Municipal Code. Proof of residency will be required.
