5Th Shift Associate Furnace Operator
Summary of Responsibilities:
Perform various cleaning, monitoring and securing operations to assist in the set-up of a vacuum atomization furnace.
Work from verbal and written instructions to perform repetitive tasks before and after the and when required during the atomization process.
Assist in preparing raw material charges, running the furnace control board, making minor repairs on the furnace, atomization chamber, and other auxiliary equipment, cleaning the atomization chamber, carry out housekeeping duties.
Assist in the removal and replacement furnace lid and coils. Cleaning the interior of the furnace chamber and "O" ring seal.
Clean raw material charge and transport to charge area. As directed assist in the attachment and detachment of gas, electric, and water lines to furnace lid and tank. Utilizing electric hoist remove and replace furnace lid from furnace chamber. Clean inside of crucibles, patch cracks and performs other repair tasks of crucible prior to next run.
May be required to carry out tasks not specifically listed, within the scope and skill level of this position in support of department objectives and to develop one's skills
Adhere to ACE guidelines and perform ACE duties as required
Adhere to all EH & S guidelines, including wearing of required personal protective equipment including a respirator & mask
Furnace Operator - 2Nd Shift
Includes the following, other duties may be assigned.
Set gas flow and temperature for heat-treating furnaces. Monitor furnace temperature for specific heat treating jobs and make adjustments as needed according to product specifications after consulting with the lead or shift supervisor.
Set up and operate the Supers Line and other furnaces as needed
Position products in baskets; load furnaces and time prescribed heating cycles to bring metal to proper temperatures; document procedures.
Monitors the condition of alloy tooling and other equipment, notify the shift supervisor when repairs and replacements are needed.
Performs repetitive work involving prescribed or established procedures.
Measure atmosphere dew point on furnace and gas generator to verify correct processing environment.
Use Brinell, Rockwell, and other testing devices to measure hardness of parts. Check parts for distortion before and after the heat-treating process.
Assist supervisor (i.e. evaluate history on prior heats) and set tempering temperature as necessary.
Daily check furnaces for maintenance problems; perform minor maintenance procedures.
Complete all necessary documentation and paperwork.
Follow all clean-up and housekeeping procedures. Comply with all quality, safety, 5S and work rules and regulations.
Qualified Furnace Operator C; Has ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, and percent; ability to read specifications and gauges; ability to complete standard production documentation; ability to use various hardness measuring devices to include Brinell, and Rockwell; ability to operator a forklift truck; ability to operate charge cars, overhead and jib cranes; ability to work in a very hot environment; and the ability to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs.

AlloyWorks, a PCC Company, has immediate openings for a Plasma Furnace Associate in the Salisbury, NC location.
This position is responsible for the maintenance, operation and development of all aspects and systems of the Company's Plasma Cold Hearth Melting Furnace. The associate prepares the furnace and its components, troubleshoots furnace systems, operates the furnace during melting and maintains the furnace in good working order.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following as well as other duties that may be assigned.
Prepares the furnace and it components (torches, gas systems, hearths, withdrawal systems and etc.) for melting. This includes the cleaning of the furnace and systems between melting campaigns.
Prepares the raw materials for introduction into the furnace, load furnace feeding systems prior to and during the melting process.
Operate and control the melting process in accordance with established procedures
Assist in establishing process and productivity improvements
Troubleshoot and Perform necessary repairs to the furnace and the various operating systems that are a part of the furnace process
Maintain the necessary records and SPC data/charts as required
Maintain the general cleanliness of the furnace and systems in accordance with Company requirements
Work with management as part of the furnace operations team
Be able to read and interpret blueprints, engineering specifications and shop orders to determine furnace setup requirements and mill instruction requirements
Must be competent in shop practices (including safe operation of fork lift, boom lift, and overhead cranes
Perform functions in a drug and tobacco free environment
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Temperature will fluctuate with the seasons as the facility is not air conditioned. The furnace control room is climate controlled.
All metal is assumed to be hot and can burn you
The use of inert gases such as Helium and Argon can be dangerous and proper precautions must be taken
The technology of our process incorporates high heat sources, molten metal and high pressures, all of which can be dangerous if not managed in the proper manner
Our equipment is sometimes extremely heavy and must be moved with overhead cranes or forklifts.
Troubleshooting, cleaning and preparing the furnace may result in becoming dirty with furnace residue, hydraulic fluid, oil, grease or other materials used

Operate, adjust and maintain all assigned sand unloading, batch, basement cullet and furnace equipment to assure product quality and efficiency. To control the overall process to insure a proper safe operation with a high degree of accuracy.
