This job will require the individual to work on customer's property changing out Gas Meters. This requires a self-motivated individual who can work well with little supervision, and who takes pride in their work. Must be able to work in inclement weather to complete the work.
Working with supervisors and installers in a professional environment.
Physical ability to work in an environment to include: Walking, Climbing and Stooping up to 10 hours per day in all types of weather conditions.
Responsible for checking the existing meter, replacing with a new meter and doing a final test of the meter.
Must accurately collect customer data and document the installations in writing and with handheld device.
Must be dependable, detail oriented, have good verbal skills and a neat/clean appearance.
Must be comfortable interacting with customers while upholding Apex customer standards
Must have the ability to use assigned tools properly and work within safety guidelines.

During the interview process, skill testing for pipe fitting will be required

Must be a High School graduate, or the Equivalent.
Pipe-fitting knowledge will be a plus.

Provides direction for all aspects of planning, managing and coordinating all gas meter service activities. Accountability includes, but is not limited to, public and employee safety, O&M budgeting control, meter & service operations, and field collection activities. Individual is responsible for all aspects of Meter Service activities within assigned area; manages the financial activities associated with the area of responsibility, replacement of gas meters, customer requested service, and staffing, etc.; responsible for satisfying regulatory compliance within assigned area; and provides support in the negotiation and administration of labor contracts for unit employees in Gas Meter Services.

3.Emergency response – Each area manager must have a comprehensive operating knowledge of their area to allow them too effectively and safely conduct emergency response. Customer and employee's safety as well as system reliability depend on the manager's ability to appropriately react under emergency conditions.
4.Financial skills – The area manager is responsible for developing and maintaining budget adherence. Responsible for ensuring the department runs efficiently within the committed budget. Managers are expected to develop creative solutions to improve productivity and efficiency, including utilizing new technology when possible.
5.Customer Service – The area manager must understand the fundamentals of providing excellent customer service. Ensure that area goals are met while providing superior customer service.
6.This position requires the manager provide clear direction to employees. Customers and employee safety and system reliability depend on clear communication and dynamic training. The manager must provide clear direction and effective problem resolution. Must posses vast operating knowledge to allow for excellent judgment and sound decision making ability.
Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities:
Requires thorough knowledge of maintenance standards, work practices and procedures and safety requirements. Also requires knowledge of design and construction of gas distribution facilities and equipment, as well as the codes and regulations that govern the operation and maintenance of the gas distribution system.
Requires knowledge of the theoretical and practical application of project management techniques, tools and software. Requires strong administrative, communication and leadership skills.
Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Business, related discipline or equivalent experience. Master's Degree or MBA preferred.
Ten years of related gas experience.
Licenses & Certifications: Massachusetts Drivers License, D.O.T. preferred.

SoCal Gas is seeking qualified applicants for their Advanced Meter (AM) Installer positions located in Santa Barbara.
Starting wages for this position is $21.42 per hour; paid wages begin at the start of a 15-day training course in Pico Rivera, which may be held Monday through Friday, from 4:00 PM to midnight or 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Training is pass or fail. Most shifts start at approximately 6:30 AM, Monday through Friday and may include some scheduled Saturdays.
AM Installers pick up assigned work at district locations and operate a Company vehicle throughout the day. They perform regulator and meter changes using truck-mounted or portable meter change device and basic hand tools.
Other meters require an installation of a Meter Transmission Unit (MTU) module. Installers read meters, operate service valves, take and record pressures, and input data into handheld devices and/or computers of daily work orders. They ensure customers understand and are satisfied with work completed. Installers operate and maintain a wide variety of tools and instruments.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Certain functions of this job require physical strength and endurance needed to effectively and safely perform assigned duties. Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds with occasional lifting of vault covers and gas meters weighing approximately 50 pounds, as required.
