ABOUT THIS JOB:
After paid training and successful field certification, you will be able to retrofit standard gas meters with new advanced metering technology. You will also be able to exchange old mechanical electric meters and replace them with new smart meters. Modernizing the community's utility meters is a significant task, one you can have a hand in accomplishing. The job requires the use and care of small hand tools such as wrenches, screw drivers, and similar tools. Additionally, the technician employs methods and techniques required in repairing and operating small mechanical devices. We will offer paid Classroom and On-the-Job training to all selected Candidates. Once complete, you will become a Skilled Tradesman. Those candidates with Gas or Electric Meter Installation Experience or who are Journeyman Plumbers or Electricians would find this job a good fit. Knowledge of the Cincinnati, OH and Northern Kentucky area preferred.

Reads gas, and/or water meters and records volume used by residential and commercial consumers. Walks or drives vehicle over established route and takes readings of meter dials.
Essential Duties: Drive or walk an assigned route; stop at each assigned address to read meters and perform inspections as required. Enter readings into handheld computer, route book or route sheet as defined in the procedure.
Inspect the meters for unauthorized connections, defects, and damage such as broken seals and notes any irregularities in the manner determined by the project procedures. Remove dirt or standing water covering a meter as necessary to determine the accurate reading. Update notes in hand-held computer or make a note on route sheet of any impediments to meter access, including dogs.
Complete paperwork and record keeping associated with job functions in a neat, accurate and timely manner. May take digital pictures of meter equipment and meter related apparatus as defined in the procedure for the specific project. Complete routes within an appropriate time period based on route size, location, and weather conditions.
Meet and work with the public effectively and courteously. Answer customers questions or direct them to customer service centers. Perform work honestly and ethically with a high level of accuracy (greater than 99.8%). Responsible for use, care and security of tools, vehicles, equipment and materials utilized.
Perform all work processes in a professional, safe and responsible manner and bring safety hazards to the attention of management immediately. Utilize personal protective equipment and safety equipment as required (ex: safety vests, traffic cones). Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the job.
