The mission of this position is to help Church members fulfill their divinely appointed responsibility to discover their families through family history methods, submit their names to the temple for saving ordinances, and to help bring souls unto CHRIST.
The Professional Services team of FamilySearch is seeking candidates to assist and teach patrons in the Family History Library and beyond. We are seeking candidates to fill a full-time position with a focus on family history records, resources, and strategies for Germany and Eastern Europe.

Provide quality research advice for German records and possibly Eastern European records at the Family History Library.

BA degree in family/local history, languages, archival science, or related field & 1 to 3 years full-time professional experience in a library or genealogical research experience. Capable to quickly learn & apply proven genealogical strategies when doing research in basic records & resources; have knowledge of basic resources & record sets as determined by geographic area; & able to develop sound genealogical conclusions from records using direct evidence. Competent in compiling well documented pedigrees & proficient in using basic resources & record sets to verify locality of family, birth of direct line ancestor, determine marriage of parents, & identify complete families. Excellent patron interaction, language & writing skills for Wiki & answering correspondence. Meet dept presentation & training standards with skills in PowerPoint & other presentation media. Needs understanding of history & culture of the geographic/subject area from the mid 1880s. Competent in Microsoft Office & FamilySearch products. Ability to decipher records (paleography requirements for AG). Fluency in reading & writing basic records in 1 foreign language.
High computer proficiency, especially with internet searching and with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Ability to quickly learn and use other, internal software.
Working knowledge of FamilySearch products (FamilySearch.org, the Catalog, Wiki, and Family Tree).
Advanced genealogical research skills.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
Ability to decipher and interpret handwritten records in German, Latin, Polish or Russian.
Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Family History or a related field.
Specialization in German, Eastern Europe, or equivalent research experience.
Excellent presentation and teaching skills.
Familiarity with social media platforms and their use in customer service.
Not-required but strongly recommended
Accredited Genealogist in a German-speaking country or Eastern European country, Board for the Certification of Genealogists credential, or equivalent experience in genealogy, history, or related field.
Specialized expertise in Eastern European or Slavic research.
Fluency in the English language and additional languages, such as German, Polish, or Russian.
Proficiency in other geographic research areas
Full-time including some Saturdays, evenings, and holidays.
