Geological Project Scientist
Berkeley Lab's Climate & Ecosystems Division has an opening for a Geological Project Scientist. You will work with Prof. Da Yang on climate dynamics, including, but not limited to, convective aggregation, the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), monsoon, and regional climate variability. The research will include the use of observations and a hierarchy of numerical models, such as super-parameterized GCMs, conventional GCMs, cloud-resolving models (CRMs), and simplified theoretical models. The incumbent will work to advance our current understanding of atmospheric dynamics and to improve climate model simulations.
What You Will Do:
Design and perform GCM and CRM simulations for convection and atmospheric circulation.
Analyze observations and model outputs to test existing theories of and to develop new hypotheses for convection and its interaction with large-scale circulations.
Modify existing convection parameterizations in GCMs to improve simulations of the tropical atmosphere.
Author technical reports and peer-reviewed journal articles.
Produce and deliver oral and written presentations of scientific results.
Work collaboratively in a large multidisciplinary research team.
Successfully contribute to an active intellectual environment.
What Is Required:
Recent Ph.D. in atmospheric science, fluid dynamics, or a closely related field.
Demonstrated ability to tackle important questions with the scientific method and to publish those results.
Demonstrated proficiency with one or more programming languages (especially Fortran).
Demonstrated proficiency with one or more data analysis softwares (e.g., Matlab and Python).
Demonstrated excellent oral and written communications skills for presentation of research.
Ability to work effectively in a large and integrated team.
Additional Desired Qualifications:
Experience with climate model simulations and development.
Experience with cloud-resolving simulations.

This is a full time, 1 year, term appointment with the possibility of extension or conversion to Career appointment based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs.

We are looking for a Senior Petroleum Geologist to work with the Upstream Professional Development Center (UPDC) to address primarily training needs of all upstream geology discipline including geological related training for other disciplines such as geophysics, petroleum engineering, drilling engineering, and Unconventional Resources.
You will work within a team of technical advisors with broad experiences and specialties in Geology to develop and deliver a wide range of professional development programs and courses targeting Saudi Aramco geologists of all experience levels.
You will work closely with other technical advisors from other disciplines (Job Families within the UPDC and upstream experts) including geophysicists, reservoir engineers, drilling engineers, petrophysicists, and unconventional resources, in the development of multidisciplinary training programs. Minimum Requirements As a successful candidate you should hold a Bachelor's degree in Geology. An MSc and/or PhD degree in Geology is desirable.
You must have At least 15 years of industry experience working on geological projects and operations that includes 10 years or more of recent active technical roles.
You should have a working knowledge of a wide range of geological disciplines/topics such as exploration (prospect and play generation), reservoir development and characterization, sedimentology and stratigraphy, structural geology, petroleum system analysis and geochemistry. Specialization in few sub disciplines are advantageous.
You must have hands-on experience with geological software applications.
You must have experience in training delivery, mentoring, coaching, and development of training programs for Geology (GL) in all levels. Duties & Responsibilities You will be required to perform the following:
Enhance the UPDC Geology (GL) curricula for early career, mid-career and senior professionals.
Manage content development activities for the GL job family.
Contribute to delivery of several GL courses including the upstream on-boarding program and the GL Flagship.
Establish a complete development schedule for courses in the GL job family.
Ensure technical content of all courses is endorsed by Job Family Technical Advisors.
Ensure that all external consultants and Instructors needs for development and delivery are identified and that necessary paperwork is submitted in a timely fashion with adequate prior notice.
Utilize UPDC-based instructional designers, graphic artists, and technical writers for building technical content as appropriate.
Collect and analyze post-course feedback and ensure it is used to improve content for future offerings
When possible, sit in on courses to evaluate course quality and instructor effectiveness, especially courses developed and delivered by external vendors.

What You Will Do
Our Geotechnical Practice is currently seeking a dynamic Engineering Geologist or Geological Engineer to join the Valley Forge, PA office. Join our Journey!
As a Geological Engineer, you will assist in the planning and execution of subsurface investigation programs; perform site reconnaissance activities and slope stability evaluations for soil and rock slopes; support the development of design and construction deliverables including geotechnical reports and construction drawings; and perform analyses for transportation, rail, water resources and other types of infrastructure projects.
Perform geologic hazard assessments and slope stability analyses including calculations and design of mitigation alternatives.
Assist in the preparation of geotechnical reports and documentation, correspondence, design details and drawings, proposals and specifications.
Perform detailed field reconnaissance and geological research to evaluate site-specific geotechnical, geologic and hydrogeologic conditions and risks.
Assist in the planning of subsurface explorations and laboratory testing programs.
Execute subsurface investigations in support of geotechnical design and evaluation efforts, including test boring inspection, installing and monitoring instrumentation, and other data collection activities as required.
Support geophysical investigations.
Compile and manage geotechnical data and prepare typed boring logs and subsurface profiles.
Provide construction observation support during the construction phase of projects.
Travel and stay out of town as needed for field assignments.
Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
0-5 years of related experience in subsurface exploration, design, and development of geotechnical deliverables including reports, drawings, and specifications.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, and ability to work independently and within a team environment.
Strong analytical, organizational, and report writing skills.
Strong leadership ability and personal initiative. The candidate is expected to have a genuine interest in geology and geotechnical engineering and a desire to learn and grow professionally.
Excellent field observation and data collection/documentation skills.
Must be able to work outdoors in all seasons.
Must be able to carry equipment across rugged terrain.
Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
Master of Science Degree with a focus in Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Engineering Geology, Applied Geoscience, or similar.
EIT or GIT certification.
Project experience with roadways, soil and/or rock slope mitigation, ground improvements, retaining walls, and embankments.
Experience with common geotechnical/geological software programs such as gINT, SLIDE, DIPS, CRSP, RocPlane, RockPack and RockWorks.
Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation and ArcGIS.
Familiarity with survey and remote sensing technology.
Geotechnical field experience, including test boring inspection, test pit observation, well construction, geophysical surveys, and geological reconnaissance.

Temporary Geological Technician (1 year contract)
As a member of the Engineering and Geology Group, the successful candidate will report to the Senior Exploration Geologist and work a 5:2, 4:3 roster. This role will require an individual who is safety driven and safety conscious, and capable of working with a diverse team of production geologists, technical services staff, underground operations personnel, and diamond drillers. The selected applicant will be required to complete downhole gamma and gyro surveys, underground duties, coreshack duties, and geological data entry.
Proven commitment to workplace safety
Working with Diamond Drillers to carry out downhole gamma surveys and gyro surveys of Exploration diamond drill holes
Underground and open pit field work including collecting muck samples and chip samples, and inspecting production sources.
Core shack duties including core cutting, sampling, meter marking, labelling, pulp disposal, etc.
Logistical support to the geology team, including ordering, maintaining and distributing equipment.
Data entry into Acquire database software
Use and management of downhole survey tablets and associated software
Assistance with short-range Minex drill scheduling and coordination,
Preferred qualifications include:
A Geology Technician or Survey Technician diploma would be highly regarded.
Prior experience working in an Exploration and/or Mining environment would be beneficial
A high degree of proficiency with technology and ability to use and manage downhole survey tablets
Strong computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access)
Ability to accurately and efficiently enter data
Willing to learn and keep up to date with current and future technologies in the field
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Ability to walk significant grades and over uneven surfaces and lift 50 lbs
Valid driver's license required
Strong communication, computing, planning, and problem-solving skills

Direct and supervise LGS research and administrative policies, activities, and budgets carried out by faculty, research staff, and support personnel. Facilitate the development of intellectual property that can be used to generate supplemental funding for LGS. Establish and implement program priorities and allocation of resources under the direction of the Executive Director of the Center of Energy Studies (CES). (30%)
Develop externally-funded research programs and activities. Publish in peer-reviewed journals as well as developing geosciences publications intended for other types of LGS stakeholders. Present research papers at academic and professional meetings and conferences on topics of current energy and/or environmental importance. Speak to civic and business groups. Interact with local, regional, and national media. Pursue collaborative activities with faculty within and outside of LSU. (30%)
Develop and supervise external activities of LGS in coordination with other CES programs that include, but are not limited to, organizing information transfer activities, conferences, workshops, and continuing education/professional certification courses. Develop and maintain relations with state and federal executive agencies. Coordinate with the CES Executive Director in fund-raising activities to create new and supplemental sources of funding. Develop relationships with academic department that can include, but is not limited to providing guest lectures, periodic lectures, or "team teaching" on energy, natural resource, physical science and other topics. Cleans and organizes work area and disinfects equipment after treatment.

Secures patients into or onto therapy equipment.
Transports patients to and from treatment areas, using wheelchairs or providing standing support.

Minimum Experience Required: Knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer service required; including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems, such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms and other office procedures and terminology required. Must be able to provide personal assistance, medical attention, emotional support or other personal care to others, such as coworkers or patients.
Minimum Education Required: High School Diploma or GED required.
Some college course work is preferred. One year experience working in similar healthcare/clinical setting preferred.
CPR certification required.
