This entry level position performs field geophysical investigations with standard geophysical industry practices using techniques such as MCGPR, TDEMI, FDEMI, seismic, resistivity, magnetics, and others.
This entry level position performs required designating / research tasks in order to locate all existing underground utility facilities utilizing a wide array of electronic designating equipment to include but not limited to electronic multi-frequency/scanning and ground penetrating radar equipment.
The ideal candidate will have some exposure to surveying methods and equipment for creation of field maps.
Additional tools and equipment that will be utilized to complete the task will include but not limited to jackhammer, pogo-tamper, concrete saw, compressor blower, vacuum hose and air lance and hand tools
Performs geophysical tasks and utility marking tasks, supporting overall crew activities.
Drives commercial motor vehicles, however a CDL license is not required
Completes paperwork including record keeping, field sketches, detailed notes, and maps of field work legibly and accurately.
Performs periodic basic maintenance on vehicles and geophysical equipment.
High School Diploma/GED.
Relevant degree, certificate, or technical training preferred.
Prior utility or geophysical related experience is a plus.
Must have a good communication skills.

Duties & Responsibilities
Conduct research and geophysical technology development for industry scale applications

Maintain a close contact with all SAO Exploration Departments and the EXPEC Computer Center and maintain an awareness of geophysical, geological and data projects and objectives

Education and Experience

Create and utilize pre-stack and post-stack geophysical attributes and analysis to assist in interpretation; build 1D and 2D synthetic models and log crossplots to evaluate seismic response from changing rock properties to predict viability of AVO, Inversion or multi-attribute analysis.
Provide recommendations for additional geophysical acquisitions programs, reprocessing or advanced geophysical work flow products
Support drilling operation efforts. Provide geosteering and drilling hazard identification advice and work real time with geosteering professionals to optimize well landing and keeping wells in zone as required.

The geoscientist, trained in the use of specialized software, will conduct processing and Interpretation of bathymetric and seabed features using real-time records, bathymetric data, sidescan sonar and/or backscatter intensity data, subbottom profiler data, magnetometer data, and seabed samples and/or CPT data (where available).

The geoscientist will assist draftsperson to produce maps that will convey the seafloor conditions as well as the locations of the geohazards. Verbal as well as written recommendations are made to the onboard engineer regarding the collection of additional survey data, route design or facilities placement.

Communicate with the Party Chief, systems engineers and data processing personnel with respect to data interpretation and quality.

We are seeking a technologist who will work under the direction of Sandia staff members where the work and teaming environment will be varied. You will provide a broad range of support at the Geophysics Department's Facility for Acceptance, Calibration, and Testing (FACT) site, which is a semi-remote location located at the southern boundary of Kirtland Air Force Base, and to provide on-location support for geophysical field test activities the department performs at a variety of locations throughout U.S. Much of the work at FACT will be individually executed, i.e., performed by you on your own without the directing staff being present. About Our Team
The Geophysics Department at Sandia National Laboratories advances geophysics for energy- and national security. We accomplish this through research and development efforts that address national-level challenges in Sandia mission area programs. These program areas include nuclear explosion monitoring, nuclear proliferation detection, subsurface characterization for energy exploration and production for both fossil and renewable energy, national defense, homeland security, and nuclear weapons. Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance.
Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by the DOE, rendering the inability to perform the duties assigned and resulting in termination of employment.
