Duties & Responsibilities
Conduct research and geophysical technology development for industry scale applications

Maintain a close contact with all SAO Exploration Departments and the EXPEC Computer Center and maintain an awareness of geophysical, geological and data projects and objectives
Investigate non-standard geophysical techniques or applications not currently being utilized by exploration, to determine whether they might be gainfully employed by the company
Assist in training the less experienced geophysicist's through discussions and work sessions

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree required in Geophysics or related field (e.g. Geology, Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering); Graduate study or extensive formal training in specialty field is desirable
Twenty (20) years of professional experience, at least five (5) years of which should be as a specialist in their discipline; candidate must be highly regarded and accepted as an expert in their discipline by their peer group
Must have a thorough knowledge of geophysical practices including scientific and economic principles, calculation methods, design details, and codes, standards and specifications

Geophysics Technical Team Lead (New Orleans, LA)
Shell is looking for a Geophysics Technical Team Lead for our New Orleans, LA office.
The Geophysics Technical Team Lead will be key member of a Gulf of Mexico (GOM) Production Subsurface Team and Production Unit (PU). The Geophysics Team Lead reports to the Geology & Geophysics (G&G) Manager and is accountable for leading, mentoring, coaching, and providing technical guidance and assurance for a team of up to eight geophysicists. The geophysics team will support brownfield development and reservoir surveillance activities for the assets within the PU, focusing on optimizing reservoir recovery, and identifying reserves and development opportunities. The Geophysics Team Lead will be responsible for the overall quality of the geophysics deliveries across the asset area.
The Geophysics Technical Team Lead is also responsible for providing detailed technical assurance for development projects, well maturation/delivery, and Well Reservoir Facility Management (WRFM) activities, as well as interpret and ensure discipline compliance with Shell's Deepwater standards and processes.
The Geophysics Team Lead will be responsible for a wide range of business and Production GP activities:
Ensure geophysical data available over the assets are current and adequate for business goals and that the latest technologies and workflows are employed when appropriate.
Provide guidance to team members' technical work via workstation sessions. Intimately involved in well maturations and operations, Integrated Reservoir Modeling (IRM) and seismic processing projects.
Work closely with the G&G manager and Subsurface Coordinators on project staffing, prioritization, and delivery.

The Williston team is looking for an experienced Geophysicist who will be responsible for analyzing the subsurface using a range of methods, including gravity, magnetic, electrical and seismic methods. This position collects and manages all geophysical data and is responsible for controlling the quality of the data collected and interpreting the data. As part of a multi-discipline team, this position will incorporate well data into geophysical subsurface analysis. This position is expected to perform as an individual contributor and assist in training lower level geologists/geophysicists. Quality check seismic data for purchase and supervise the reprocessing of data including specialty products (i.e. inversion, HTI, VTI, AVO).
Monitor work plans while continuously updating them, keeping management apprised of activity.

The successful candidate will apply geophysical technologies and interpretation skills to identify, evaluate, and appraise exploitation and development drilling opportunities in the Permian Basin to implement our growth program. Extensive experience in the identification and utilization of seismic attributes and seismic inversion studies, as well techniques to identify fractures via coherence, curvature, ant-tracking or other attributes, to aid in the characterization of reservoir models.
Additional experience in Quantitative Interpretation including geostatistics, seismic inversion, and rock physics tools (RocDoc or equivalent) to produce predictive maps and volumes of rock properties from seismic data at field and exploration scales is highly desirable.

Applies mature knowledge, experience, and judgement in organizing and carrying out all levels of near-surface geophysical projects. Includes supervision of field personnel and occasional performance of field work directly. As a geophysicist in an unconventional asset you will support the multidisciplinary team in identifying exploration and development areas for resource identification and maturation using all your geophysical skillsets and tools. You will be required to support the operations team in selecting appropriate completions decisions (placement and orientation of fracs) and monitoring fracture stimulation operations with microseismic.
Candidates are expected to be able to interpret seismic reflection data, recommend and incorporate all aspects of seismic modeling. The geophysicist will partner with geologists in preparing drilling recommendations and will be expected to recommend seismic acquisition programs including the determination of seismic acquisition and/or reprocessing parameters. Minimum Requirements Candidates are required to meet the following minimum requirements :
Bachelor's degree in Geophysics or a related science as appropriate to the required discipline. An advanced degree is preferred and will reduce prerequisite work experience stated below by one year for master degree and two years for PhD.
We are targeting 10 years' experience with at least 5-10 in unconventional plays including shale or tight gas, with some US experience in unconventional hydrocarbon basins required. We will consider candidates with more or less experienced depending on the quality of their experience. Other desirable skills include strong geophysical workstation skills, strong fundamental interpretation geophysical skill set, including well to seismic correlation, seismic mapping, velocity model building, depth conversion, 3D visualization, reservoir properties from seismic (RPFS) work flow, AVO analysis, acoustic and elastic inversion and survey design, regional geolophysical evaluation of unconventional plays, structural characterization of natural fractures and their impact on unconventional reservoirs, sequence stratigraphic analysis, unconventional play evaluation, geophysical support for an unconventional play or development, reservoir characterization in unconventional hydrocarbon plays (tight gas, shale gas, unconventional oil, and/or coal bed methane). Duties & Responsibilities You will be required to perform the following duties and responsibilities:
Apply technical geophysical tools to assist in prospect creation, evaluation, and maturation of unconventional resources (shale gas and liquids and tight gas)
Use seismic interpretation, analysis, modeling, petrophysical tools and integration software packages to partner with development geologists in preparing drill recommendations.
Understand strengths and weaknesses of different packages. Apply tools in fit-for-purpose fashion.
Determine seismic acquisition and/or reprocessing parameters that would improve understanding of unconventional resource plays.
Keep abreast of emerging technologies.
