As Area Director of a large, complex classing office, you would direct, administer, and carry out programs and activities assigned to the Classing Office.

The duties may include, but are not limited to:
Participates in the formulation of programs within the assigned territory and in national policies.
Obtains cotton market news and price and crop information in routine contacts with producers, ginners and others.
Supervises the classification of cotton to ensure accurate determinations in accordance with Official Cotton Standards.
Provides technical input and logistical support to other program units.
Represents the program in assigned geographical area in contacting state and local officials.
Occasional travel - Travel for training and work assignments may be required

Selection and retention in this position is contingent on a successfully adjudicated FBI National Criminal History Check (fingerprint check) and a background investigation
This position is eligible for telework within the local commuting area of the duty location of the position. Employee participation in telework is at the discretion of the supervisor
Subject to one year supervisory/managerial probation period (unless prior service is creditable). New USDA Supervisors must successfully complete all components of the required new supervisory training program before the end of their probation period
In accordance with Office of Government Ethics regulations concerning conflict of interest, the incumbent of this position will be required to submit a financial disclosure report within 30 days of their effective date of appointment and annually thereafter
Prior to an official offer, selectee will be required to sign and return a memorandum of understanding (MOU) acknowledging and accepting that geographic mobility is a condition of employment. Failure to sign the MOU will be grounds for withdrawal of the job offer

FOR THE GS-13 LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-12 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates:
Ability to lead, direct, and supervise a diverse work staff of permanent and seasonal employees working multiple shifts.
Experience independently applying Cotton Classing standards, High Volume Instrument grading, and/or equipment and building maintenance.
Ability to oversee operations and provide communicate and facilitate the priorities, mission, and vision of the organization.
Ability to provide written and oral communication on technical matters, operational, and personnel matters to a large and small groups, and to individuals.
