This position is part of the Glass and Materials Science Discipline within R&D, which is responsible for research, development, engineering, and global operations at O-I. This individual will be responsible for ensuring that O-I produces consistent, high-quality glass across the world by establishing best work practices for glass science and deploying globally. This glass science engineer will also contribute to technical projects that support operations, engineering, research, and development.

Responsible for ensuring best manufacturing practices for glass science are developed. Leads the creation of procedures, work instructions, scorecards, and training material. Performs regular reviews and edits of these work practices on a yearly basis. Reports progress and audit scores to management.
Track deployment and progress of glass science best practices at the plant and regional level.
Able to perform in-person audits of plants, if requested.
Provide glass science expertise to other disciplines establishing best practices by offering technical guidance and recommendations.
Creatively finds new means to ensure best practices are implemented: CapEX opportunities, new procedures, new technologies, etc.
Partners with Global and Regional Quality to create or evaluate new procedures, work instructions, equipment, and technology.
Recognizes trends in manufacturing across regions/plants and identifies needs areas where investment in new technology and/or work practices would make meaningful improvements.
When requested, provides on-site support to regional and plant manufacturing for color changes or production-related issues.
Provides technical assistance to regional manufacturing engineers to solve difficult production-related issues. Experienced in problem-solving and root cause analysis of glass-related production issues. Able to step in and provide definitive guidance to manufacturing engineers or plant staff.
Responsible for scale-up of new glass compositions from pilot to production.
Makes changes to a plant's glass composition or raw materials, if required.
Develop and deliver new technical training material.
Perform analysis on glass chemistry and raw materials.
Contribute to or lead technical projects within Research & Development or Corporate Engineering & Manufacturing.
SCOPE AND IMPACT
The Research and Development Glass Science Engineer will own the creation, tracking, and maintenance of best manufacturing practices in glass science. This person will also provide technical support, specifications, and engineering solutions to ongoing research or engineering projects. They will work independently, often interface with other disciplines, and participate as part of larger teams on complex projects. Projects will include engineering, operations, development, quality, automation, EH&S and others to support business initiatives.
This position will report to the Glass and Materials Science Discipline Leader in R&D. This position has no direct reports.
The glass science engineer in this role will be someone who is data-driven, works with a sense of urgency, and has a strong sense of responsibility. Candidates should demonstrate the capability of leading others to consensus, particularly on topics of controversy. The successful candidate will also possess the following characteristics:

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

Experience working full time at a glass plant
Technical expertise in one or more of the following manufacturing operations: batch, furnace, forehearth and quality.
English language – fluent
MS Office – advanced
Familiar with characterization of stone, cord, and related glass defects.
Foreign language proficiency a plus
Up to 20% travel, both domestic and international.

Job Description: Summary
Responsible for the day to day operating, monitoring, and repair of glass cutting machines in line with auto glass packing equipment and ultrasonic washers. The associate must be able to work both independently and as a team member and actively communicate with others to include workplace teams.
Responsible for meeting/exceeding production standards, maintaining product quality, and minimizing/preventing equipment downtime. Regular, punctual attendance is an essential job function. Ability to speak, read and write English. Ensures compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and practices and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures.
1.Operate and monitor equipment cycles. Operators have complete responsibility for their quality, production, waste, and machine workability/accountability.
2.Perform machine set-up and changeovers.
3.Understand and operate inspection & testing equipment.
4.Responsible for performing preventive maintenance on cutting machines and equipment
5.Responsible for identifying and correcting any dimensional defects and cosmetic defects according to current QC specifications, to insure good quality.
6.Record accurate inspection and process data as required for the completion of controlled documents/paperwork in an effective manner.
7.Tend to the overall cleanliness and organization of the equipment and work area.
8.Utilize Manufacturing Execution System (MES) to query, move, validate, and issue material to production orders and machines from rack/storage locations and back to respective locations including accurate consumption of materials.
9.Move raw material to staging areas by forklift, electric pallet jack, or pallet jack.
10. Present shift reporting and Shift Start Up information to operators, technicians and supervisors.
11. Verify process steps are completed correctly in batch records.
12. Read, understand, and follow standard operating procedures.
13. Trains associates and answers procedural questions to internal and/or external stakeholders, as needed.

This position works in our glass production and warehouse facility located in Neenah, WI. This position works where needed moving and storing materials, pulling and prepping customer orders for delivery in the warehouse and/or cutting, tempering and handling glass in accordance with customer orders in production. Essential Duties and responsibilities:
Builds wooden crates for shipping glass.
Load and unload product safely using forklift and pallet jacks.
Puts away products and equipment in an organized manner.
Pick glass orders utilizing packing lists and receipts
Inspect all products at every stage of assembly and delivery preparation.
Safe use of power tools including; table saw, nail gun, glue gun, etc.
Perform physical inventory daily and as needed.
Perform glass deliveries as needed using Omni van or box truck.
Pre-stage raw material (glass) according to work orders and place finished product in appropriate staging areas in accordance with established glass handling guidelines.
Set up, operate and perform basic maintenance on all machines (cutter)as working on them.
Responsible for operation of cutting, edging/seaming machines. Must produce a finished product within standard tolerance.
Responsible for maintaining work area, inventory control, quality control in relation to the product being assembled, and meeting production needs set by management.
General housekeeping to include vehicles, warehouse and office spaces to maintain a safe working environment.
