Division of School Facilities is dedicated to ensuring a safe, clean environment so that the students of New York City may concentrate on education without distraction. Under supervision, the Glazier cuts, fits, installs, and replaces all types of glass or glass substitutes in DOE buildings, structures, and facilities. Performs related work.
Reports to: Supervisor of Mechanics
Direct Reports: N/A
Key Relationships: Relationships will be fostered with Supervisor of Mechanics, custodian engineers, and managerial staff within the Division of School Facilities.
Removes old glass or glass substitutes and putty.
Prepares openings for installation of glass or glass substitutes.
Installs and secures glass or glass substitutes in aluminum, steel, wood, or bronze structures, or other frameworks.
Putties and re-putties all types of sashes.
Upon requisition, cuts to size and issues glass or glass substitutes.
Handles mechanical and electrical glass shop machinery and equipment such as finger grip machines, polishing and grinding machines, electric hammers, glass drills, and electric putty softeners.
Prepares requisitions for material requirements.
Maintains stores of glass in stockroom.
Unpacks and handles all types of glass or glass substitutes.
May drive a motor vehicle in the performance of assigned duties.
Keeps records and makes reports.
Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a glazier; or
At least three years of experience as described in "1" above and sufficient helper or apprentice experience, or relevant training acquired in an approved trade, technical or vocational high school, to make up the remaining required experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of satisfactory helper experience, apprentice experience or training.
A Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York may be required for appointment to certain positions in other agencies. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
Salary: $304.29+ per day
(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not make less than their current salary.)

What You Will Be Doing

Fabricate and install metal sashes and moldings for glass installation, using aluminum or steel framing.
Load and arrange glass and mirrors onto delivery trucks, using suction cups or cranes to lift glass.

Diesel Technician Apprentice
Responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining all equipment used by the Company in the transportation of and handling of freight in a safe, efficient, timely, cost-effective, and practical manner. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, single and tandem axle diesel over-the-road and city tractors, diesel city straight trucks, propane and diesel powered industrial forklifts, over-the-road and city trailers of various makes and configurations, Company vehicles and pick-up trucks, and various types of converter gear. Associates in this position are entry level employees working as an apprentice.
Ability to work independently and without constant supervision. Ability to read, write, communicate, and comprehend the English language in order to perform the various aspects of the job.
Ability to communicate tactfully and diplomatically with internal and external customers. Ability to pass the requirements of a Company administered physical examination, including drug screen. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) candidates must meet Department of Transportation (DOT) qualifications.
Must have a satisfactory work history, including good attendance. Basic math skills to include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Ability to maintain and supply own hand tools needed to perform the essential duties of the job. Must be available to work all shifts.

Work involves installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical/electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment. The National Electrical Code and all other applicable standards and specifications are followed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Demonstrate safe work habits, comply with company safety requirements
Measures, cuts and bends conduit, using a tape measure and hand tools
Pulls electrical wire and cable in conduit using manual and power equipment
Moves/handles various equipment and spools of wire
Installs electrical raceways and wire, conduit, lighting fixtures, controls, machinery and electrical distribution equipment under the supervision of an experienced Journeyworker electrician
Installs and bends conduit using manual, mechanical and hydraulic benders

The Tool & Die associate is a critical individual within Jacobs Vehicle Systems. The individual would be responsible for various cutter grind and tool-making processes that are vital to the department. This position can be a full-time or apprenticeship-level position, depending on schooling and experience. NOTE: The apprenticeship typically lasts 4-5 years, and includes paid training and technical instruction. Skills can also be obtained through a vocational school or community college, as approved. We also have an Accelerated Apprenticeship, which requires a formal certificate/degree in this applicable area in order to be considered.
Produce engineering prototype hardware from drawings, hand sketches, and verbal descriptions of intended functions.
Utilizing precision diametric fits and other development work for such hardware.
Diagnosing and troubleshooting for close-tolerance/high-finish production tooling.
Work to close tolerances, critical angles and surfaces.
Plan, construct and repair complicated Tool Room and Cutter Grind assignments, such as jigs, fixtures, gauges and specialized tools; this includes CNC milling, turning and grinding equipment.
Sharpen cutters, drills, reamers, and form tools, using cutter grinders, drill grinders, surface grinders, and tap grinders; working from specifications, drawings and sketches, instructions.
Re-sharpen tools to prescribed standards according to materials to be machined.
Modify standard cutting tools for special applications.
Use precision measuring equipment to determine accuracy and specified dimension relationships.
Work on new experimental cutting tools working with production and manufacturing engineering staff personnel.
Work with designer on determination of specifications where toolmaker practices and skills experience input is critical to the end result.

Tool and die makers need to create and read advanced blueprints to create specialized tools and molds.
Attention to Detail: Precision is key. Tool and die makers need to make sure that their models and finished products are free of flaws to the minutest detail.
Tool and die makers use CAD software and other computer programs to design and craft tools and die-casts.
CNC experience is preferred in this position.
Requires a basic understanding of materials and heat treatment operations.
Knowledge and practice of precision diametrical fits, production of coil springs, flat springs, die-formed components and tolerance assemblies.
In addition to computer software, tool and die makers use a number of hand tools and large scale machines to finish their products.

Eyemart Express is seeking candidates with a strong retail background and a desire to start a career in the optical industry for a position at one of our store locations. The Apprentice Optician will primarily assist patients in selecting the eyeglass frames, lenses and lens coatings that best suit their needs. The Apprentice Optician will also be responsible for ensuring the lab technicians have accurate measurements and prescription information for grinding, coating and fitting lenses to the frames.
