Division of School Facilities is dedicated to ensuring a safe, clean environment so that the students of New York City may concentrate on education without distraction. Under supervision, the Glazier cuts, fits, installs, and replaces all types of glass or glass substitutes in DOE buildings, structures, and facilities. Performs related work.

Key Relationships: Relationships will be fostered with Supervisor of Mechanics, custodian engineers, and managerial staff within the Division of School Facilities.
Removes old glass or glass substitutes and putty.
Prepares openings for installation of glass or glass substitutes.
Installs and secures glass or glass substitutes in aluminum, steel, wood, or bronze structures, or other frameworks.
Putties and re-putties all types of sashes.
Upon requisition, cuts to size and issues glass or glass substitutes.
Handles mechanical and electrical glass shop machinery and equipment such as finger grip machines, polishing and grinding machines, electric hammers, glass drills, and electric putty softeners.
Prepares requisitions for material requirements.
Maintains stores of glass in stockroom.
Unpacks and handles all types of glass or glass substitutes.
May drive a motor vehicle in the performance of assigned duties.
Keeps records and makes reports.
Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a glazier; or
At least three years of experience as described in "1" above and sufficient helper or apprentice experience, or relevant training acquired in an approved trade, technical or vocational high school, to make up the remaining required experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of satisfactory helper experience, apprentice experience or training.
A Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York may be required for appointment to certain positions in other agencies. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
Salary: $304.29+ per day
(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not make less than their current salary.)

Furniture Installation Lead, M-F, 6:30Am-3Pm
Responsible for the daily activities related to the installation of Allsteel contract furniture systems. Duties may also include: delivery, assembly, installation, repair and service of warranty and non-warranty office furniture case-goods and seating. Assists in training and provides work direction to furniture delivery, installation, and repair associates. Reports to Furniture Operations Manager or Regional Furniture Operations Manager.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide supervision, work direction and training to internal and third party contract systems furniture installers to ensure proper installation in a timely fashion
Must be able to calculate estimated man-hour requirements to complete installations per customer's timeframe, and successfully deliver job completion within those man-hours; maintain jobsite time sheets for installation crews
Must be qualified in reading construction and CAD installation blueprints, and capable of field measuring a worksite in preparation for installation
Load system furniture orders onto truck and delivers and stages product at the customer's site for installation
Complete furniture assembly/installation as per installation specifications and blueprints to meet customer's satisfaction; inspect furniture for proper operability according to manufacturer's guidelines
Perform a chalk layout for furniture placement and identify any aisle spacing problems; must be knowledgeable in local building spacing codes
During chalk layout must be able to locate electrical and communications cores if required; must understand contract furniture systems electrical requirements for building hook-ups and be able to identify electrical distribution requirements on installation blueprints
Install all types of free-standing furniture, panel and modular systems including placement, leveling, wipe-down, and touch-up of metal and wood furniture at customer's location
Attend pre-installation meetings as required
Conducts post-installation walk-through's with the appropriate Staples CEBI personnel to identify any punch list requirements
Follows all safety procedures in the performance of job duties by observing and enforcing local, state and federal OSHA and DOT safety rules and regulations
Encourage safe work behaviors, and promptly corrects conditions and unsafe behaviors which may lead to accidents
Daily interaction with customers, division furniture staff, and furniture operations management
May be required to unload incoming furniture trucks using material handling equipment (i.e., forklift, pallet jack)
May be required to load transactional furniture orders onto truck and deliver product to customer, complete furniture assembly/installation as per installation specifications to meet customer satisfaction; inspect furniture for proper operability according to manufacturer's guidelines
May be required maintain an efficient two-day turn-around on all furniture repair service calls, and completes all required furniture service/repair paperwork (warranty or non-warranty)
May be required to unload incoming furniture trucks using material handling equipment, i.e., forklift, pallet jack
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
Minimum of three (3) years' experience in working as a contract furniture installer with additional experience desired in installing several contract furniture systems (i.e. Hayworth, Herman Miller, Steelcase, etc.); must be experienced in using hand and electrical tools to assemble furniture
Must be at least 21 years of age
Must have a valid driver's license
Must be D.O.T. certified with 2 years' experience and a good driving record and physically qualified to drive by passing a DOT physical
Ability to read and speak the English language sufficient to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records

The ChallengeThe GE Appliances Principal Tooling Engineer - Metals will be a member of the Metal Stamping Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) team. The Metal Stamping AME Team owns and maintains the engineering standards for metal stamping tooling and equipment for the company. The Tooling Engineer will be responsible for managing and executing tooling and metal stamping equipment projects, ensuring that all tooling and equipment are compliant with standards and executed within the project or program deliverables (cost, quality and delivery). At times, the Tooling Engineer will be assigned to New Product Introduction (NPI) programs or to product lines projects to drive product cost out and factory productivity. The Tooling Engineer will be a key liaison between the project team and the plant operation and manufacturing teams; ensuring that plant priorities and objectives are clearly understood and considered for the area under their ownership.
What you will Do
Manage metal stamping tooling and equipment procurement projects: Including specification development utilizing GE standards, supplier selection, early supplier engagement, technical reviews, factory layout development, installation and qualification of high quality, right-sized and cost effective tooling & equipment. Ensure all tooling and equipment is reliable and robust and designed to maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
Coordinate design efforts between part design engineers and the Die Engineering Team in order to develop a robust Die Operational Lineup (DOL) that meets product and operational requirements.
Own the program metrics as applicable to your assigned projects: manufacturing labor plan (VLOH), equipment and tooling budgets and quality of in-house manufactured parts/product. Work with the program / projects team(s) to perform trade-off analysis on competing metrics if necessary and drive decisions based on overall business impact.
Facilitate / lead the use of the Production Preparation Process (3P) while developing manufacturing tooling, equipment and processes. Utilize cross-functional participation to ensure that the tooling, equipment and processes are compatible with the entire value stream. Efforts should include: right-sized equipment, workstation design, material presentation, standard work and single piece flow.
Standards and Compliance:
Ensure all equipment executed in GEA factories comply with Industry and Governmental Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) standards.
Utilize Human Organizational Performance (HOP) principles to ensure that all equipment / tooling / processes are implemented with the health and safety of the operators in mind.
Work with functional leaders to ensure equipment & processes support business initiatives of Bill of Process (BoP), Lean Manufacturing, Ergonomic Design and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)
Cross-functional Work and Leadership:
Work with factory operations and Lean teams to understand the Value Stream and how your projects impact this. Ensure material flow, workstation set up, model mix, etc. are considered when workstations / equipment are designed.
Utilize the 9-Step Process for tooling and equipment design; consult Critical Process leaders as applicable to ensure development of robust processes for part / product generation. Work with cross-functional team to develop Manufacturing Control Plans (MCP) and Manufacturing Control Instructions (MCI).

Provide guidance, mentoring, training and leadership for more junior tooling engineers and/or cross-functional team members with regard to tooling design and execution.

The furniture repair technician is responsible for making sure furniture meets our standard of perfection before it is delivered to the customer’s home. Bassett’s highly skilled furniture repair technicians inspect all products prior to customer delivery.
