(NYSE:APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, is seeking an experienced Production Supervisor for its Glenmont, NY facility. The Glenmont, NY facility, located just outside Albany, consists of an Air Separation Plant with a Nitrogen Liquefier supplying liquid nitrogen, oxygen, and argon to customers throughout the Northeast area. There is a large distribution terminal and vehicle garage on-site, maintaining our fleet of tractors and trailers. Our businesses operate and require support on a 24/7 basis and supported by commercial drivers, plant operators, vehicle mechanics and technical staff producing and delivering product to 500+ customers. The Glenmont Driver Supervisor role is a key member of the management team reporting to the Distribution Supervisor. This role will require the candidate to gain an understanding of all aspects of distribution including fleet maintenance with a specific focus on driver management and leadership skills as a front-line supervisor. Key responsibilities for this position will include:
Daily management of driver force at the site and any assigned outpost locations.
Manage driver’s hours of service in accordance with company policies and Federal/State regulations.
Analyze the daily schedule from Air Products Central Logistics Center to insure continuous product supply by managing daily driver availability and coordination with maintenance staff to provide equipment resources necessary.
Manage third party contractor support for the daily schedule in times of major logistical challenges as directed by regional management (i.e., major outages, on-site shut downs, etc.).
On a daily basis, review location driver hour availability with Logistic planners to prevent driver fatigue.
Daily oversight and analysis of previous days completed trips insuring driver compliance with routing and customer supply levels meet demand requirements.
Assist Terminal Supervisor with potential employee recruitment and screening.
Perform for all local Distribution employees through regular formal and informal observations such as Delivery and Yard Observations, customer site visits, driver ride-alongs, plant walk arounds, etc.
Assist Transport Supervisor with local EHS plan including development of safety talk/safety meeting material, monthly site inspections, coordination of Top 10 Customer Site improvement plans and daily walk around Good Catches.
- Daily review of driver paperwork, data input and data flow for distribution related systems and processes. Provide real time coaching support to insure quality pass through of information to the Central Logistics – Deliver to Invoice team. Qualifications/
High school diploma with 5 + years of distribution experience
Strong leadership competencies with strong can do attitude and drive towards continuous improvement
Supervision experiences a plus.
Commercial driving experience preferred
High degree of knowledge of DOT, OSHA and Hazmat regulations
Familiar with PM based maintenance programs
Strong degree of computer literacy
Excellent communications skills – requires extensive communication with office staff, drivers and customers
Demonstrated commitment to supporting Environmental, Health, and Safety programs
Strong commitment to teamwork and employee development
Ability to build relationships with multiple support groups, and experience working in a matrix organization a plus
