Commodity grading work requires periods of physical exertion to lift and move boxes and cartons of product often weighing over 50 pounds; prolonged periods of standing, walking, stooping. bending, and climbing; physical coordination and finger dexterity in both hands to perform digital examinations of commodities; ability to detect abnormalities in the commodity through normal or corrected vision in at least one eye for distance, depth perception, and color; the ability to determine product quality through sensory perception, ( taste, smell, etc.). The work environment includes exposure to cold temperatures of coolers, which are 25 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit (and on occasion for short periods at subzero temperatures) and other processing areas: the high noise levels of industrial processing equipment; the risks of forklifts, meat hooks and/or meat products and other items moving or falling; slippery floors and stairs; and the risks of cutting and sawing equipment.
Prior to an official offer, the selectee will be required to sign and return a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to this office acknowledging and accepting that geographic mobility is a condition of employment. Failure to sign the MOU will be grounds for withdrawal of the job offer.
Qualifications
GS-05
General Experience: Applicants must haveat least three years of progressively responsible general experience, one year of which was equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to the next lower level in the Federal Service (equivalent to the GS-04 level) experience may have been obtained in private or public sectors that demonstrates the ability to : 1) analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions; 2) plan and organize work; and 3) communicate effectively orally and in writing. Must be reflected in resume.

Education: Completed a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree. You MUST submit supporting academic transcript(s).
OR
Combination: possess a combination of the type of education described above and the type of experience described above that totals 100% when combined. Comics Grader
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Grade comic books
- Select comics for submission to certification services
- Research and estimate values of comic books.
- Use Word, Excel, and proprietary Heritage software to compile listings of the consigned items.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS: Individual will need to be able to lift boxes full of comics weighing up to 30 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Responsibilities
The duties described are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity.
The duties may include, but are not limited to:
Plans, schedules, conducts, and reports the results of verification audits according to established procedures.
Conducts a methodical check and evaluation of facilities, processing equipment, processing and packaging methods, sanitation procedures, and quality improvement program at dairy plants from beginning to end of the processing/production cycle.
Makes borderline decisions and interpret complex quality system documentation as it relates to generic or program specific standards.
Selects representative samples of product for test weighing and for container and product quality examination, and prepares samples for transmittal to designated laboratory for chemical and bacteriological analysis.
Applies and interprets standards, contract specifications, and instructions in the inspection or grading of a variety of dairy products according to the degree and intensity of such factors as flavor, body, texture, color, finish and appearance.

Qualifications
In order to qualify for the Agricultural Commodity Grader (Dairy) position, you must meet the following minimum qualifications:
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement, including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
FOR THE GS-5 LEVEL: Applicants must have three years of progressively responsible general experience, one year of which was equivalent to at least the GS-04 level of the Federal service, that demonstrates the ability to:
Analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data and recognize solutions;
Plan and organize work; and
Communicate effectively orally and in writing..
OR
Completed a four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree. NOTE: You MUST submit supporting academic transcripts.
OR
Possess a combination of the type of college education described above and the type of experience described above that totals 100% when combined. To determine your combination, first compute your experience as a percentage of the experience listed in above; then determine your education as a percentage of the education listed above; then add the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent. NOTE: You MUST submit supporting academic transcripts.
FOR THE GS-07 LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-5 grade level that demonstrates):
Examining product to determine conformance with approved specifications such as grade, weight, packing, and quantity;
Monitoring plant and food processing operations ensuring the plant remains in compliance with regulations;
Preparing and maintaining reports and records related to food processing production data and grading results; and
Training and monitoring food processing personnel to grade according to U.S. standards.
OR
Possess one (1) full year of graduate level education in Agriculture, Mathematics, Engineering, Science, Business, Economics or a related field of study. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full- time study. If that information cannot be determined from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as equivalent to 1 year of full-time study. NOTE: You MUST submit supporting academic transcripts.
OR
Possess a combination of the type of graduate education described above and the type of experience described above that totals 100% when combined. To determine your combination, first compute your experience as a percentage of the experience listed above; then determine your education as a percentage of the graduate education listed above; then add the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent. NOTE: You MUST submit supporting academic transcripts.
OR
Superior Academic Achievement: possess a Bachelor's degree AND meet one of the following: (1) grade point average of "B" (a GPA of 2.95 or higher out of a possible 4.0) for all completed undergraduate courses, or those completed in the last two years of undergraduate study. (2) grade point average of "B+" (a GPA of 3.45 or higher out of a possible 4.0) for all courses in the applicant's major field of study, or those courses in the applicant's major completed in the last two years of undergraduate study. (3) Rank in the upper one-third of the applicant's class in the college, university, or major subdivision.
