SOLIDWORKS INDUSTRIAL PRODUCT DESIGN ENGINEER
Mallet and Company, a subsidiary of Vantage Specialty Chemicals, is a leading global supplier of processing aids for the food industry and recognized as a champion of: bread and cake release compounds, edible oils and specialty blends, emulsions and icing stylizers, bread pan oilers, cake pan greasers and target spray equipment.
SUMMARY: The SOLIDWORKS INDUSTRIAL PRODUCT DESIGN ENGINEER is responsible for the design and innovation of our companys equipment, sold to both commercial bakeries and retail customers, in a 3D CAD environment (SOLIDWORKS).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design equipment on SOLIDWORKS to be used in commercial bakeries and in retail locations (tabletop units)
Review and troubleshoot existing equipment to improve the design
Lead New Product Development projects
Lead design reviews at various stages to capture input from various constituents (sales, customer, etc.)
Advise on equipment modifications to enable manufacturing process enhancements
Determine best practices for utilizing SOLIDWORKS in coordination with Equipment Division Manager
Act as business unit's subject matter expert with SOLIDWORKS
Troubleshoot customer equipment over the phone and in-person (may drive company vehicle, if within a drivable distance)
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / COMPETENCIES
BS or AS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college/university or equivalent relevant experience required
5+ years of experience in a product design role with knowledge of Design for Manufacturing required
Requires SOLIDWORKS super-user background with parts management and best practices experience
Requires knowledge of equipment designs including but not limited to BOMs, Assembly Drawings, Schematics, GD&T and tolerance stack-up
Commercial bakery, food manufacturing or restaurant equipment design experience preferred
Experience with troubleshooting issues via phone preferred
Electrical design a plus but not a requirement
PLC programming experience a plus but not a requirement (we use Allen Bradley)
Experience preferred with outsourcing designs for manufacture
Capacity to transfer knowledge of SOLIDWORKS to new users or less experienced colleagues
Well-developed oral and written communication and technical skills
Demonstrated commitment to excellence, personal leadership and customer focus are critical for success in this role
Strong problem-solving skills; self-motivated by problem-solving with inherent curiosity to understand how things work
Ability to leverage suppliers of off-the-shelf components rather than custom-designed components
Consistent track record of working effectively in a team and with staff in non-technical positions; must be a team player who demonstrates interpersonal skills and freely and openly exchanges ideas with customers, colleagues and key contacts in other departments; champion of collaboration!
Proven ability to direct and recommend cost-effective, creative solutions
Ability to learn new products and processes quickly; ability to learn the internal workings and repair approaches to repairing food equipment
A logical and independent mind; excellent analytical skills
Ability to travel up to 20%, both domestically and internationally (South America); valid U.S. Passport (or equivalent) required
Strong comfort level with working in a fast-paced environment where quantity and quality go hand-in-hand
Demonstrated success in working efficiently and reliably with minimal supervision
Must possess a valid drivers license (to drive company vehicle to regional customers)
TRAVEL REQUIREMENT: Up to 20% - domestically and internationally
