Under the direct supervision of the Shift Supervisor, the Grinder/ Certified Finisher is responsible for the preparation and repair of all types of titanium castings through the use of grinding tools and techniques. The Certified Finisher is also responsible for inspecting and signing off their work to visual and dimensional criteria during in-process operations. Inspection is made by the use ultrasonic, fluoroscopic penetrant, inspection hand tools, and blueprints. the Certified operator is also responsible for training B level operators on grinding techniques, inspection criteria, written instructions, and the proper use of UT, PT, and other inspection tools and techniques.
Be accountable for working safely by follow all safety rules and safe work practices.
Always consider safety before action.
Remove metal from castings to meet specifications per tech cards, routers, blue prints, and other approved written instructions.
Inspect own in-process work using appropriate measuring tools. (UT, Calipers, Dyers, Federals, Etc.).
Check other work using appropriate tools and techniques as needed.
Sandblast metal castings per written instructions.
Read and interpret technical instructions and aerospace metal casting blueprints.
Safely use pneumatic and belt grinders, drill press, and sandblasters.
Remove defects with use of ultraviolet light and perform penetrant spot checks.
May be required to occasionally work outside department.
Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform somewhat diversified operations to smooth and finish generally simple castings. Remove parting lines, flash, positive metal and other surface defects.
Use hand grinder, abrasive tools and a variety of standard hand tools. Select and change tools as necessary to meet requirements of each job.
Visually check casting surfaces for flaws and other defects.
Smooth surfaces, blend contours and other features where surface finish and dimensional tolerances are not usually critical. Exercise care to avoid damage through mishandling or over-finishing of both exterior and interior surfaces.
Detect faulty operations, defective material and report these and any unusual conditions to supervisor.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Must comply with all applicable safety requirements, policies and procedures, while maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly work environment.
Must participate in required training, medical monitoring, safety, and health evaluations and programs.
Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in all designated areas of facility.

Starts grinder and moves it over surface of work piece to remove scratches, laminated metal, excess weld material, and burs.
Polishes ground areas with finer abrasive to produce smooth, unmarred surface.
Replaces worn abrasive disks, wheels, and belts.
Maintains a safe and organized workstation and follows all company policy, safety and procedures

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Segregate the different types of scrap products to be reground.
Clean scrap material to prevent contamination of the ground material with foreign objects and dirt.
Use chain saws or other equipment, as needed, to cut up scrap material.
Determine weight of scrap on weigh scales and maintain a written record of the amount of scrap ground.
Operate the scrap grinding equipment and feed scrap product into the grinders.
Operate fork lifts and other lifting equipment, as needed, to handle scrap.
Maintain the organization and cleanliness of the scrap holding area.
Empties trash from work area as required..
Breaks down empty gaylords as received from Extrusion.
Follows all safety requirements of this position.
Abides by all policies and procedures in the associate handbook.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High School diploma or GED from a state recognized institution is desired.
Mechanical aptitude: ability to operate power grinding equipment and power hand tools.
Ability to lift 40 pounds without reasonable assistance.
Ability to lift 70 pounds with reasonable assistance.
Mobility sufficient to allow frequent entrance and exits from lift truck.
Ability to work in high temperatures for extended periods of time.
Must be able to wear dust mask, earplugs, face shields as necessary.
Works in close proximity to power granulating equipment and high decibel noise emission for extended periods.
Works in dusty conditions. Respiration filtration is frequently worn.
Duties require the use of and operation of power hand tools and the lifting of heavy objects.

Overview of Position:
Operates precision grinding machines to assemble products and product parts to established blueprint and engineering specifications consistent with job specifications and quality standards. Selects, mounts, attaches and calibrates a variety of attachments, grinding machines to grind angles, contours, lines, spheres, etc. on to surfaces.

Works to reduce scrap and improve quality.

Accurately completes all required paperwork, including recording labor data.
May be assigned to other tasks as needed to meet work load demands.
Keep Supervisor advised of any quality problems, concerns, delays, etc.
Advise Supervisor of any maintenance work. Maintain an orderly and safe work environment.
Suggest methods improvements or alternate methods and materials to reduce cost and/or improve quality

Setup and operate a variety of grinding equipment including centerless, end grind, microcentrics, ID grinders, and chopper and roller grinding equipment to rough and finish grind a variety of parts for bearings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
Setup and operate ID and OD grinders to rough and finish grind a limited variety of parts, generally for bearings, such as races, retaining washers, cages, and rollers, and straight races.
Operate crowning machine on jobs different from those being run simultaneously in the other machines of the line.
Setup and operate heavy duty headers and choppers to cut coiled wire stock to length generally for rollers for bearings.
Adjust straightening rolls; set wire feed and stop for length; set forward and rear position of knowck-out pin; align cutoffs and set machine stroke to give straight, clean cuts and proper length and diameter without excessive flashing.
Operate roller line to continuously perform roughing sizing and finishing.
Setup and operate micro centric grinders and in-feed grinders to rough and finish, straight and form grind, OD and ID and ends of flanged, stepped and curved races and cages.
Setup and operate Blanchard rotary surface grinders to grind flat surfaces of a limited variety or parts.
Load and unload parts as applicable. Compensate for wheel wear during operation.
Setup feeder chutes as appropriate to connect machines and insure the output from one machine is automatically fed into another machine.
Spends, feeds and wheel sizes and types are specified for all setups. Mount wheels, adjust work guides and rests and setup feeder.
At startup and during run, dress and true wheels to obtain part size and finish and for maximum productivity and wheel efficiency. Make subsequent periodic checks to minimize spoilage and make necessary adjustments as appropriate.
Use applicable precision measuring instruments, including, micrometers, dial gauges, etc.
Follow all safety and housekeeping rules, policies, and procedures.
Employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
