Sets up and operates various grinder machines to deburr, buff or polish materials. Utilizes gauges and fixtures to check that specifications are met.
Uses rule, scale, protractor, straight edge, plumbline, gauge, power grinding and chipping tools and other hand tools as needed. You will complete shop safety training & consistently demonstrate safe work habits. You will use grinders, inspection lights, buggers, rule, scale, protractor, straight edge, plumbline, gauge & hand tools properly and demonstrate acceptable housekeeping practices.
In this position you will follow all safety policies and company-wide safety requirements; encourages action assuring safe behavior; confronts unsafe behavior and conditions proactively and positively. This position requires that you read & understand documents & drawings.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Setups and operates centerless and side grinders, and vision inspection systems.
Performs visual and dimensional inspection at the grinding operation and utilizes any other measuring equipment as needed.
Reads routers, and production schedules for product specifications such as dimensions, tolerance, and number of parts to be processed and when.
Read special instructions as required. Records information for inspection and production using various forms, logs and computer systems.
Monitors product for product specifications using but not limited to the following types of inspection equipment, air gages, refractometer, micrometer, surface finish testers, digital indicators, scales, and visual aids.
Verifies equipment including but not limited to proper settings, feeds and speeds, temperatures, cycle times, pressure settings, air settings, switches, valve adjustments, feeds and speeds are in conformance to specification by using established standards.
Utilizes statistical data to determine conforming product. Analyzes and monitors scrap and nonconforming parts to aid in determining cause of failure.
Ability to start, shut down, setup and operate centerless and side grinders, vibro,cob dryers and inspection equipment.
Operates overhead hoists, and hand jacks. Loads and unloads various types of containers, which in include but are not limited to pans, bins, baskets and trays. Ability to drive forklifts and achieves certification to drive forklift.
Changes worn grinding wheels, mounts wheel on spindle, adjust blade height and angles as required, and dresses grinding wheels to specification.
Ability to read, interpret, and follow all safety rules and regulation while perform operations.
Troubleshoots and performs appropriate maintenance of the equipment by observation and general cleaning.
Over time is required as posted weekly, and may be mandated for this position.
Any other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Handles, moves, labels, and grinds scrap plastic in a safe efficient method.

1.Perform all tasks in a safe manner and adhere to all safety policies/procedures.
2.Wear PPE (personal protective equipment) and perform all tasks in accordance with procedures and work instructions.
3.Perform daily checklist(s) on equipment, vehicles, and materials as needed.
4.Assist in production line start-ups, shut-downs, and any time material handling may be required.
5.Respond and react immediately to production pages/requests for assistance.
6.Manually handle plastic: rolling sheet, cutting, stacking, moving, and grinding as required.
7.Assemble gaylords on pallets, line with bags, and correctly identify with label when starting to fill with regrind.
8.Cap, wrap, and correctly identify full gaylords of materials and move to designated location(s) for use or storage.
9.Operate a forklift safely.
10. Clean equipment, dust bags, filters, and the grinding room as needed or as scheduled.
11. Perform general housekeeping tasks throughout the plant as assigned.
12. Communicate in a timely, effective manner to other personnel or your supervisor.
13. Adheres to and complies to all General Manufacturing Practices (GMP's) Requirements

Education and/or Experience

Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Employee must be able to work various hours and various shifts which may include overtime. The facility is a 24/7 operation which includes weekdays and weekends. Maintaining good attendance is required.

SUMMARY OF POSITION
The rough grinder is responsible for grinding parts to remove flash and other indications according to the established standard work for production purposes.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Operate a belt grinder.
- Change belts on belt grinder for different areas on the part.
- Change belt wheel accordingly to accommodate the belt that is being used.
- Complete required router information.
- Perform housekeeping per 6S schedule.

Job Description Summary
Under the supervision of the Blast/Grind Department Supervisor, performs the cleaning and preparation of castings for shipment per written process guidelines using powered grinding and chipping tools. This position performs all tasks ensuring safety, efficiency, and quality at all times. This position reports to the Grind/Blast Supervisor of the shift.
Acquires specific job process card before starting grinding job.
During work shift, performs duties including removing excess fins, parting lines, pads, sand, and other casting impurities. Also, using various grind tools including, cup grinders, pencil grinders, air hammers, stand grind machines, swing grind machines and cut-off-wheel machine.
All grind numbers and part information is recorded by the grinder on a daily timesheet received from the supervisor. This information is done accurately and turned in daily.
Keep work area clear of hazards and clutter and prepares area daily for next shift.
Know proper hooking of all castings.
Responsible for individual time sheets daily.
Attend daily scrap review meeting.
Additional duties as may be required.
Required Skills and Education
Minimum of completion of the tenth (10) grade or high school.
Must possess the ability to follow written and verbal directions.
Must have ability to physically perform all tasks, which include the ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift fifty pounds on a regular basis.
Must have ability to operate all tools and powered overhead cranes.
Must be trained in all safety requirements, including, hazard recognition, PPE requirements and use, and any other safety requirements for employment at AAM – Browntown.

Utilizing a large swing grinder and/or small hand grinder will condition parts for defect removal. Grinds and smoothes surfaces of parts.
Examines and feels surface of work piece for defects.
Removal of defects and/or sharp edges.
Selects grade of abrasive belt, wheel, or disk according to specifications, knowledge of abrasives, and condition of metal, and attaches to grinder.
Starts grinder and moves it over surface of work piece to remove scratches, laminated metal, excess weld material, and burs.
Polishes ground areas with finer abrasive to produce smooth, unmarred surface.
Replaces worn abrasive disks, wheels, and belts.
Maintains a safe and organized workstation and follows all company policy, safety and procedures.

Ability to continually operate a 12 lb. 9” hand grinder at approximately waist height throughout entire length of shift; the grinder may be suspended from a tool balancer or stored on a fixture also at approximately waist height.
Ability to turn 80’ rail upright using a turning bar (with the assistance of one co-worker with another turning bar) if the rail turns over on the transfer racks
Ability to lift up to 70 lbs
Audio & Visual acuity
Willingness to utilize all personal protective equipment
Exposure on a regular basis to extreme weather conditions.
