Today, ECG has eight facilities in four different states. We are currently seeking a full-time Grinder for our facility in Joliet, IL. This non-exempt position will require overtime, weekends, rotating shifts and on-call responsibilities.

RESPONSIBLITIES WILL INCLUDE:
Perform all work in line with safety rules
Set-up and operate one or more grinding machines on a production basis for the purpose of grinding the surface of manufacturing parts to specification
Set-up equipment according to specifications on product blueprint, with little or no supervision
Start and stop machinery
Verify conformance of work to specification using preset gauges and micrometers
Replace and dress with grinding wheels
Adjust controls in order to vary the dept. of cut, grinding speed and rate of feed
Accurate and timely reporting of all production and quality related data and records
Maintain the cleanliness and housekeeping responsibilities for the equipment and work area
Maintain an accurate count of production pieces
Support all productivity and process related goals
Perform other duties as assigned

Acquires process card from department lead.
Tracks hourly production vs. daily goal on erase board.
Lifts cast iron part from pallet or metal basket and grinds on grinding machine or portable grinder.
Places finished product onto pallet or metal basket. Will also place defective parts (scrap) on a separate pallet or metal basket for further inspection by QC.
Uses pin gauges or boroscope to check open passages in product.
Uses air hoist to lift product to place heavier pieces on work table.
Tools used: air hammer, compressed air hose, boroscope, stock roll gauge, pin gauge, flatness gauge or height/width gauge.

Grinder Operator - 3Rd Shift
Set up and operate department equipment such as OD and ID grinders; CNC and/or manually operated. Operate grinders to perform a series of machining operations such turning, boring, threading, facing, grinding, drilling and tapping on production materials.
Work from complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications, job orders, tooling instructions and standard charts to obtain such specifications as dimensions, tolerances, and tooling instructions. Make required adjustments to machinery to compensate for material tooling, machine or program conditions. Troubleshoot and resolve various types of operating difficulties, recommend corrective action on process failures within the department. Determine correct grinding wheel to use to achieve required finish; be able to measure finish using micrometers and other associated tools; be able to hold tight tolerances; be able to maintain proper and accurate records, including inspection reports.

Familiarity with grinding stones, grinding wheels, grinding tapes; their applications and uses; and other tools associated with grinding equipment and machine work

Roll Grinder is responsible for heavy assembly and regrinding of large rolling mill rolls. Duties and working procedures include:
Calibrate test equipment and maintain records.
Perform mechanical repair of roll grinding machines and fixed shop equipment.
Select, balance, and install grinding wheels.
Position rolls in grinding machine with pendant and radio controlled crane.
Rough turn and grind rolls to desired shape and finish.
Chamfer back-up rolls to prevent spalling or cracking.
Grind extrusion rams to desired shape and finish.
Check surface quality, hardness, and shape with profilemeter, perthometer, micrometer and caliper.
Develop, read, interpret sketches and blueprints.
Adjust, lubricate and maintain roll grinding machines.
Record roll grinding information such as downtime, tracking of rolls and operations.
Order parts and supplies.
Calibrate and troubleshoot roll grinding machines.
Perform sling/wire rope inspections.
Handling of LP gas transportation.
Braze, cut, weld, repair and fabricate structures.
Perform rigging duties to remove and replace major components of grinding machines and to handle broken rolls.
High school graduate or equivalent.
3 years journey person experience in machine trades with background as industrial machinists, heavy in cylindrical grinding.
- Graduate of an approved apprentice program or technical training beyond high school.

Od/Id Surface Grinder
Inspects parts before grinding to check for chips and cracks. Must verify the dimensions of the work piece to match with the dimensions on the blue prints.
Must be able to inspect blueprints for inconsistencies. Must be able to set up and operate manual surface grinding equipment. Must be capable of operating CNC surface grinding equipment and have the capability of fully understanding CNC operations.
Must be able to fixture and design methods of manufacturing complex part. Must have the ability and interpersonal skills to successfully work as a team member to obtain desired results. Must be able to understand and apply work-related documents such as operating manuals, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Must be able to understand and perform to job-related quality standards, methods, usage of inspection devices and reporting as required. Must possess knowledge of algebra, geometry and trigonometry. Must be able to wear personal protection equipment, such as earplugs, safety glasses, and safety shoes. Education qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent and successful completion of an apprenticeship program or possess equivalent experience.

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:
To produce usable, extrusion quality material from scrap products produced during pipe manufacturing
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Segregate the different types of scrap products to be reground.
Clean scrap material to prevent contamination of the ground material with foreign objects and dirt.
Use chain saws or other equipment, as needed, to cut up scrap material.
Determine weight of scrap on weigh scales and maintain a written record of the amount of scrap ground.
Operate the scrap grinding equipment and feed scrap product into the grinders.
Operate fork lifts and other lifting equipment, as needed, to handle scrap.
Maintain the organization and cleanliness of the scrap holding area.
Empties trash from work area as required..
Breaks down empty gaylords as received from Extrusion.
Follows all safety requirements of this position.
Abides by all policies and procedures in the associate handbook.
Performs all duties as directed by management.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

To grind a wide variety of production aircraft parts. May be required to work under the guidance of higher grade CNC Grinder Operators.
I. Works under supervision to set up, adjust and operate CNC grinding machines to perform a wide variety of difficult close tolerance internal and/or external single and multiple grinding operations according to general operation methods.
II. Works from blueprints, shop routers, oral and written instructions to achieve high degree surface finish and tolerance requirements for grinding parts.
III. Works under supervision to mount and balance grinding wheel.
a. Dress grinding wheel manually and automatically.
IV. Works under supervision to setup and adjust horizontal feeds, speed of part rotation, wheel speed and table travel stops.
a. Selects drive dogs, collets and chucks.
b. Mounts parts to proper index as required. Adjusts lubricating coolant flow.
V. May receive guidance from higher grade CNC Grinder Operators.
VI. Responsible only for own work.
VII. Performs other related duties as required.
Must have high school diploma or equivalent plus a vocational certificate / diploma related to CNC machining. Requires the use of simple arithmetic such as addition and subtraction of decimals and fractions, together with simple drawings and some measuring instruments. Requires the knowledge of basic computer work.
