Primary responsibilities maintain a smooth and even work flow throughout the department to ensure quality standards are being accomplished. Must be able to review blueprint, process sheets, specifications and instructions for assigned projects. Communicating effectively with the supervisors and co-workers regarding changes to the blueprints and other aspects of the assignment is crucial. It is the responsibility of the operator to perform preventive maintenance on all equipment and accurately measure and recognize when equipment needs to be replaced. Frequent quality checks and documentation of results for consistency of production in addition to ensuring the cleanliness and order in department work environment is required. It is the operator’s responsibility to verify conformance of machined work piece to specifications using a variety of precision measuring instruments such as micrometer, calipers, gages, and gear checking equipment.
Personal Characteristics: Results oriented with the ability to pay strong attention to detail. The successful candidate need to be a pro-active self-starter that can work independently or with a team. Excellent analytical and organizational skills are required for this position.

The CNC Gear Setup Operator sets up and operates precision gear grinding machine with special indexing equipment to grind master and precision gears. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reads and interprets blueprints, planning sheets, sketches, layout, job order and related technical data for product specifications such as dimensions, tolerances, and number of parts to be ground, and tooling instructions such as grinding speeds, feed rates, holding fixtures, depth of cut and grinding wheel to be used while determining setup procedures, control settings, material requirements, machining methods, grinding operations and sequence of operations.
Computes machine indexing ratios and cam dimensions for specified spacing and contour of gear teeth. Selects index plate, cams, grinding wheel, feed rates, grinding speed, and depth of cut. Positions and secures index plate, cams, and grinding wheel in machine.
Sets up automatic dressing device to dress wheel to specified profile. Moves controls to set synchronized rotation speeds and feed rates. Positions and secures work piece on mandrel between centers or in chuck, and turns hand wheels to position work piece and wheel, verifying positions with thickness gauges, dial indicators, and micrometers.
Turns valve handle and directs flow of coolant against wheel and work piece. Moves controls to index work piece and feed wheel to work piece, adjusting depth of cut in part by sight and feel. Verifies dimensions of ground work piece for conformance to specifications. Grinds metallic materials.

Operate gear grinding machine; make adjustments as needed. Add a flow of coolant to process to maintain the proper temperature of the work piece. Frequently operate more than one gear grinding machine.
Dress, mount, balance, and change wheels as needed. Master and perform Nital Etching procedure. Use micrometers, indicators and various other precision measuring equipment to set up, adjust, and check dimensions.
