Overview
Clearwater Paper Corporation in Shelby NC has exciting career opportunities for experienced machine operators to support paper machine operations. Successful candidates will have a minimum of one (1) year of industrial manufacturing experience with machine operation, High School diploma or GED, and knowledge of mechanical processes. This position will work 12 hour shifts, rotating with 2 days on, 2 nights on and 4 days off. The work week rolls forward each week. This position includes the need to work OT when necessary.
A combination of experience in the following areas is also desirable: Demonstrating personal safety awareness and promoting a safe work environment, Willingness to work rotating shifts and overtime, Ability to communicate effectively in a team or self-driven environment, Good mechanical and troubleshooting skills, solid computer skills, operate high speed equipment after an initial training period. This position requires working in all areas of the paper machine. Lifting, bending

POSITION SUMMARY
Executes predetermine methods to package product by the press or store as work in process. Performs visual inspections to detect obvious defects. Keep box counts in order to document the quantity of product being produced.

Consistently meets production requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to understand and follow all safety procedures including but not limited to PPE, steel toe safety shoes, maintaining safety guards, etc.
Ability to tend to more than one machine at the same time..

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

To precision machine a wide variety of cylindrical work involving such operations as turning, facing, drilling, threading, tapping, slotting, chamfering, centering, undercutting, milling, OD grinding and other operations that can be performed on a CNC turning center and CNC and manual cylindrical OD grinders.

Principal Activities
\r
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Must be able to operate the following equipment:

- A) CNC and manual cylindrical OD grinder and accessory equipment such as hand tools, steady rests, indicators, air gages, in-process OD gages, and other precision measuring equipment.
\r - B) CNC turning center and accessory equipment such as hand tools, indicators, face drivers, steady rests, and other necessary equipment.
\r - C) Hoist operated cranes and other lifting equipment.

Check work before grinding and turning operation for conditions such as straightness, excess stock, and condition of centers, outside diameter and rotor run out.

Set part in machine, using lifting equipment as necessary; assemble arbor, check holding devices as required.

Download programs, prove out programs in initial run, correct for discrepancies, and advise for program action. Be qualified to operate CNC controls as required.

Set up and operate CNC turning center as necessary, to machine on centers a variety of work involving such operations as turning, facing, radiusing, slotting, chamfering, undercutting and thread forming. Adjust cutting tools and select proper feeds and speeds. Load, support and clamp production work between centers or on arbors as required to maintain alignment, concentricity, rigidity and to avoid distortions.

Set up and operate CNC and manual OD cylindrical grinders as necessary to establish proper orientation sequence. Set and adjust machine components such as stops, table, swivel, work head, tail stock, and steady rest as needed.
Select and make adjustments such as proper feed, speed and traverse to suit material and conditions of individual jobs. Select and mount proper grinding wheel and dress as required. Operate machine to rough and finish grind and polish a variety of shoulder diameters, and faces on shafts, bearings, journals, bushings, couplings, rotors, housings, and other similar work. This involves concentric, straight, taper, radius and form grinding.

Recognize and immediately correct, without assistance, for machining difficulties and errors or cause to have corrected if descrepancy is due to material, machine tools or equipment. Perform above duties without assistance except on unusual or difficult jobs only. Consistently producing work of proper quality and of properly required quantity.

Use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, standard and special gages, and templates in order to maintain dimensions, close tolerances, and surface finish as required.

Responsibilities:
Grinding and Centerless Grinding:
Sets up and operates one or more grinding or centerless machines to grind external cylindrical or tapered surfaces of workpieces to blueprint specifications.
Sets up and operates precision grinding machines with special indexing equipment.
Reads blueprints and job orders for product specifications, and interprets machining instructions to determine grinding and sequence of operations.
Mounts grinding wheel and regulating wheel on spindles with wrenches and dresses wheel to specifications using dressing devices.
Verifies dimensions of ground workpiece for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers and other precision gauges.
Starts machine and monitors functional operation to qualify functionality.
Changes, adjusts, or resets grinding wheels as needed to maintain conformance to part specifications.
Positions and secures workpiece on mandrel between centers or in chuck.

Flat, Wire, and Ball Lapping:
Sets up and operates lapping machines to lap surfaces of flat carbide objects.

Reads blueprints or job order for product specifications, such as dimensions, tolerances, and number of parts to be lapped.
Follows tooling instructions, such as lapping speeds and pressure, work-holding fixtures, and laps to be used.
Moves controls to set lapping speeds, tool pressure, and length of cycle to guide action of laps against workpieces or workpieces against each other.
Starts machine and brushes or sprays lapping compound on laps and workpieces.

Ensure machine is operating at required speed, producing quality product with minimal waste. Will change paper, glues, inks, as well as unjam machines as necessary.
Essential Functions and
Key Responsibilities:
Continuously perform all required tasks in a safe manner, adhering to all established safety rules and procedures. Must take immediate action to correct and/or report any unsafe conditions and hazards.
Utilize lockout/tagout as required, following established policy; ensure guarding is in place at all times.
Keep work area clean and organized, per standards.
Ensure that work is being performed in a manner to produce quality products, according to our quality requirements and specifications.
Follow all applicable food service policies and procedures.

Change roll, make splice by hand, maneuver roll into position and adhere roll to web on machine.
Start machinery.
Coordinate with Adjuster Supervisor and make minor repairs and adjustments to machines as necessary to ensure quality levels.
Set up one and two color prints and have approved by Adjuster Supervisor before starting production run.
Watch progress of machinery for breakage; notify Adjuster as needed.
Clean ink pans and wash rollers.
Learn to thread machinery, and perform properly.
Make sure all waste is kept to a minimum and meets standards set forth by management.
Other miscellaneous duties as assigned by management.

Candidate Requirements:

Three years of factory experience is preferred.

The primary responsibility of the Grinding Setup/Operator is to manufacture quality parts to the blue print specification utilizing the resources available within their department to meet the customer requirements.
Job Requirements:
At least 2 years of hands-on experience with centerless grinding
Ability to setup a job on a centerless grinder
Ability to verify part conformity using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and other gauges
Ability to read and analyze engineering prints
Strong math skills
Ability to relate to team members well and ability to communicate clearly and concisely
Attitude of openness to change and exhibit a desire to improve every day
Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills
Responsibilities:
Manufacture quality product to the customer specification
Setup and operate centerless grinders in an efficient and safe manner
Setup and make parts to print on centerless grinders
Check the quality of parts produced on a regular basis
Report any scrap made in Global Shop and follow procedures
Perform minor machine repairs and machine maintenance as needed
Report any safety concerns immediately to your supervisor
Comply with all quality policies, specifications, regulations and instructions
Properly recording all labor and production activities into Global Shop
Make suggestions for continuous improvements
