Groover / Balancer
2nd Shift Position: 2:30 PM - 11:00 PM Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Reading and interpreting production schedules, job router cards, blueprints, non-conformance reports, and any other materials that summarize requirements for the grooving of rubber rolls.
Locating and retrieving rolls to the grooving production area utilizing overhead cranes and various materials handling equipment. Preparing the individual rolls for installation in the grooving equipment, utilizing knives to trim back rubber from the rollers prior to installing the rollers into the equipment, cleaning steel surfaces of rollers using hand or mechanical equipment, cleaning steel surfaces of rollers using hand or mechanical equipment, such as die-grinders or sheet abrasive/polishing materials. Setting up the grooving equipment, installing special grooving wheels or attachments, adjusting and setting tooling on tool posts, installing live-centers chucks centers, extensions, dogs, etc.
Set up groove cutting tooling, hot knife, do-more, milling head. Adjust tooling to meet required leads and angles. Operate computerized grooving machine to complete tasks.
Mathematically calculate lead and angles for groove patterns using basic geometry. Installing the prepared rollers into the equipment either manually (within weight limit restrictions), or utilizing overhead cranes. This installation is expected to occur without damage or harm to personnel, to any component of the rubber grinding equipment, to material handling equipment, or to the rollers being ground.
Aligning the rollers in the equipment to meet all dimensional requirements of job order. This includes adjustment for taper, TIR, roller surface finish, and finish dimensions. Measure all required dimensions and understand the relationship of the dimensions to the specific requirements of the job.
Inspect the finished product to ensure that all requirements are met. Complete all necessary paperwork, inspection reports, job router information, and operator sign-off on job. Wrap the rolls with protective materials per requirements.
Unload the grooving equipment safely and without damage or harm to personnel, equipment or finished product. Deliver the finished product to a designated storage area or shipping container. Safely operate the grooving equipment to produce the desired results and meet the specific job requirement.

Receives punched, Laser-cut, or -bend and weld- rings from Material Handler or Punch Press Set-up Person.
Sets up and operates Groover machine to cut I.D. groove in needed guide rings in accordance with established specifications. To set up machine Visually inspects grooved rings to assure material conformity, correct quantities and correct dimensions and quality. Sets up and operates Beveler machine to cut O.D. bevel on needed inner rings in accordance with established specifications.
Visually inspects beveled rings to assure conformity and quality. Stores grooved/beveled rings in storage bin. Removes metal shavings from machine as needed.
Reports needed machine repairs to supervisor. Must have clear understanding and practice all safety rules and regulations. Must have clear understanding of Quality Policy and Quality System Programs Maintains a clean workstation.

Cuts pipe using pipe cutters in order to install the piping according to job documents.
Threads pipe using a threading machine and oiler in order to connect pipe.
Bends pipe by using a pipe bender in order to connect pipe.
Grooves pipe using a mechanical groover in order to create joints.
Installs pipe assemblies (e.g., fittings, valve) using a soldering torch in order to complete installations.
Operates machinery (i.e., forklifts, skidsteer, backhoe, platform lift) by applying operating instructions and machinery specifications to actual usage in order to dig, install overhead and underground piping, and to move heavy items.
Solders, screws, welds, and glues pipe components by torching, screwing, and applying plastic solvent to the specified components in order to connect and complete pipe installation.
Designs hangers by applying information from job documents and from the Uniform Plumbing Code in order to complete an installation.
Will be required to work independently and be able to keep from one (1) to three (3) apprentices productive. May be required to be crew leader, overseeing from one (1) to ten (10) fitter/welders and apprentices. Competencies (include, but are not limited to)
