Monitoring & Control System Hardware Engineer (Electrical Engineer 4)
Alpha Technologies, which provides world-class powering solutions, seeks a Monitoring and Control System Hardware Engineer (Electrical Engineer 4) for its Hybrid Power Systems team in Bellingham, WA.
Alpha’s hybrid power systems principally integrate photovoltaic and utility power inputs, energy storage (batteries), and various power conversion elements for achieving a wide variety of end user powering objectives. This position requires you to conceptualize data transfer from existing lower level device microcontrollers to supervisory system controllers to remote, networked user interfaces and back. You will be responsible for defining system communication busses, embedded computing hardware, and networking hardware to achieve necessary data throughput and management.
You will also need to closely collaborate with, and at times, coordinate power system and software development teams to achieve fully integrated, functioning systems and may be required to provide technical supervision to lower level engineers/technical personnel.
Design electrical or electronic subsystems within overall hybrid power systems by conceptualizing, defining, and communicating a data exchange environment (device operating systems, communication interfaces, communications protocols, data attributes) for hybrid power systems consistent with market/application objectives and structured for compartmentalized (i.e. modular) development re-use
Evaluate released product designs and propose significant cost reduction/functional improvement changes
Coordinate/conduct all necessary qualification and verification testing required for proposed designs or design changes to prove system architecture ruggedness and specifications are met
Propose technical solutions to requests/problems from other departments and write change orders to effectively implement solutions;
Provide technical solutions to customer requests for modified standard products; write software, hardware, and interface specifications based on application requirements
Troubleshoot issues encountered in system verification and/or customer product implementation
Communicate and coordinate design information/design/code reviews with other design team members
Serve as Project Engineer for system development projects coordinating contributions from electrical, mechanical, and software teams
Coordinate contract resources to fulfill hybrid power systems data transfer and supervisory control specifications
Code firmware and software solutions to fulfill hybrid power systems data transfer and supervisory control specifications
Create project documents and manage design per Alpha’s ISO based procedures; define and document system architecture and specifications utilizing. Utilize ‘Best Practices’ in code structure, commenting, and documentation
Education: BSEE/BSEET, BS Computer Engineering or equivalent military training
Experience: Minimum of 6 years in field of electrical systems, electronics, hybrid energy systems or software/firmware development. In particular, embedded systems, programming, or development of equipment controllers and user interfaces

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field and 8-10 years related experience, or a combination of education and related experience
Design experience with the following hardware design areas at the board level:
Circuit design using custom and commercial ICs * ADC/DAC design, implementation, and interface
Embedded microcontrollers and associated interfacing (I2C, SPI, UART, USB) * Power supply design: chargers, switchers and linear regulation
High speed digital design including FPGAs, DSPs, embedded processors and related peripherals
Interfacing to high-speed A/D and D/A converters * RF circuit design using commercial and custom RFICs
Power budgets and thermal analysis of board level ICs
Experience with schematic capture/PCB layout support * FPGA development experience (VHDL, Verilog), and associated simulation, synthesis, and implementation tools
Ability to work with embedded firmware engineers to work board level requirements
Experience with the entire hardware design cycle, from concept to production.
Ability to obtain/retain a government security clearance at the level necessary to perform the duties of the position
Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
Advanced degree preferred
Knowledge of digital signal processing
Knowledge of various communications protocols and systems
Chassis level electrical design working with mechanical engineers to integrate PCAs into rugged housings for multi-mission requirements
Electrical simulation tools
Programming experience (Matlab) * Experience developing automated testing suites to verify hardware performance

PDS Tech is seeking a Hardware Engineer for an open position in Buffalo Grove, IL.In your role you will:
Perform complex maintenance, enhancement, testing and support of existing hardware.
Complete complex design, development, testing, and modification of hardware.
Perform the quality process by the rigorous and detailed execution of module, sub-system and system test procedures.
Perform designing, developing, and implementing complex hardware solutions while adhering to manufacturing capabilities.
Complete all engineering documentation to support a design effort.
Complete estimates for complex task duration, supporting the process for developing and maintaining schedules, cost and quality.
May complete complex technical writings.
Complete review of complex specifications and other documentation to determine hardware engineering requirements.
Minimum of 5 years experience in set-up, conducting and documenting hardware validation testing.
Working knowledge of standards for surge, electro-static discharge, electrical fast transient, conducted and radiated immunity and emissions testing.
Able to work with third party test facilities for final validation testing.
