JOB TITLE: Wire Harness Design Engineer
LOCATION: Duluth, MN
Real Time Consulting LLC has an exceptional opportunity for a Wire Harness Design Engineers.
Responsible for the design and installation of electrical wire harnesses for FAA certified single engine aircraft. Work closely with other engineering disciplines to understand and capture wiring requirements and ensure compatibility with all surrounding elements. Work closely with production and product development groups within the organization to ensure wiring installations meet all safety, performance, and regulatory requirements.
Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
- Develop and maintain electrical wiring diagrams and harness architecture to meet aircraft system requirements (e.g. functionality, electrical loading and circuit protection, electromagnetic compatibility, and routing constraints).
- Design, drafting, and review of electrical wiring 3D models, assembly drawings, and installation drawings for aircraft electrical and avionics systems, including power distribution, RF, and data busses.
- Design of electrical equipment assemblies and enclosures.
- Selection of electrical wiring assembly and installation components such as connectors, backshells, wire, insulation, and hardware.
- Understanding and application of EMI/RFI, signal shielding, and electrical bonding principles.

20% of the day would be spent in meetings to update goals, commitments, issues, changes
10% interacting with the supplier
10% interacting with the program team – team that is essential for the entire vehicle

Makes sales calls on selected key accounts and Tier 1 & 2 supplier levels dealing in Electrical Distribution Systems/Wiring Harnesses.

Engine Harness Development Engineer
This Engine Harness Development Engineer duties include but are not limited to the design, prototyping and documenting responsibilities of engine, transmission and electrified powertrain wiring harnesses to be used in dynamometer test cells. The Engineer's responsibilities also include organizing and overseeing the build of such harnesses (both in-house and outsourcing to a supplier), checking for errors, verifying operation, controlling inventory, troubleshooting issues and ensuring corrective actions. The Engine Harness Development Engineer will be expected to be able to read and interpret device transmittal information and be able to utilize that information to efficiently design wiring harnesses for dynamometer testing. The Engineer will be required to interface with a network of product development engineers to gather required electrical information, work with technicians and third party suppliers to ensure harnesses are built to specification, document designs and maintain the drawing database. The Development Engineer must be engaged in multiple projects simultaneously, track harness and part inventories, troubleshoot/diagnose issues in the field, build prototype harness assemblies, jumper harnesses and pigtail assemblies.
Associate's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Automotive, Aeronautical Engineering or equivalent
5 years of relevant experience
Strong background and hands-on experience in wiring requirements such as current, voltage and electrical noise mitigation (proper grounding, shielding, twisted wiring)
Able to work in a fast-paced environment
Able to guide the technician/mechanic workforce with work orders and direction for repairing and modifying wiring harnesses and test cell issues
Experience using MS Office and/or Google G Suite applications
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Team-oriented, self-starter and self-directed
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or other related discipline with a strong electrical background
10 years of relevant engineering experience
Experience in automotive and instrumentation wiring along with experience with data acquisition systems and dynamometer operations
Experience with wiring and operation of hybrid powertrain systems
Experience with the repair/assembly of vehicles/engines
