Heat Treat Operator III
Ellwood Crankshaft Group (ECG) is the world's leading manufacturer of large, one-of-a-kind, multiple-throw crankshafts. ECG's products and services include crankshafts and eccentrics used in mechanical stamping presses, reciprocating air and gas compressors, reciprocating pumps, engines, mechanical shears, rock crushers, homogenizers and other miscellaneous applications. ECG services the locomotive, shipping, mechanical press, oil and gas and compression markets.
Today, ECG has eight facilities in four different states. We are currently seeking a full-time Heat Treat Operator III position in Sharon, PA. to run our unique heat treat work center featuring car bottom-style furnaces, quench tanks and automated material handling. This non-exempt position will focus on coordinating all heat treatment activity for production including programming of heat treat cycles and physical setup of product for heat treat. This individual is required to have a strong understanding of ECG's unique heat treat processes and, excellent analytical and organizational skills in order to lead timely execution of production requirements. Duties and responsibilities of this position are dynamic and may change over time due to business needs and the candidate may be required to work rotating shifts, 12-hour schedules and overtime as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or equivalent
Valid Driver's License
Knowledge and experience with forging or heat treat equipment or machine tools (lathe, mill, and other CNC machines) preferred
Strong analytical skills and demonstrated problem-solving abilities
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs
Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize between development projects and daily responsibilities
Must be results oriented with a strong desire to succeed
Solid verbal and written communication skills, strong math skills
Must have the ability to successfully transfer knowledge and train others in best practices
Thorough understanding of our manufacturing processes
Understanding and ability to layout and stage parts as required

Preferred: Familiarity with industrial furnace specifications, including surveys, calibrations, and accuracy testing per AMS 2750.
Preferred: Experience working with refractory materials and furnace rebuilding.
RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
Operation of entire heat treat cell and the individual pieces of equipment within it viz. furnaces, fork transfer system (FTS), automated guide vehicles (AGV's), quench tanks and overhead cranes.
Daily coordination of activities including planning for furnace loads (production as well as development) based on the production schedule
Coordinate regular collection of production metrics and reporting of the same to track performance vs. organizational targets for due date performance, uptime, set-up time, etc.
Monitor heat treat equipment during production runs, taking measurements where required, and submit completed run sheets
Provide input during engineering reviews, development and testing of new products and processes, including furnace layouts and material handling devices
Work closely with the product development engineers during all phases of the project, from trials through production hand-off
Troubleshoot equipment issues through collaboration with ECG maintenance, engineering and forging crew personnel
Collaborate with ECG Maintenance to develop and sustain preventive maintenance plans and best-practices
Coordinate periodic (daily/weekly/monthly) preventive maintenance on heat treat equipment.
Ensure quality control and continuous improvement by troubleshooting quality issues, developing and maintaining in-process quality inspections, and focusing on continuous improvement by identifying, eliminating and preventing obstacles to efficient product flow, quality, and efficiency
Develop, maintain and standardize clear work instructions for all production positions in the operation identifying necessary information for current/next job
Provide feedback to engineers to optimize process sequences and setup information contained in blueprints
Setup and run temperature uniformity surveys per AMS 2750
Coordinate and assist with system accuracy tests (SAT's), including data analysis.
Serve as backup resource (setup and operation) for forge heating furnaces.
Review new product inquiries with Engineering to aid in developing routes and estimates
Set up the new work center(s) to optimize organization and accountability for work area tooling, material handling and supplies. Identify appropriate visual manufacturing aids (communication boards, etc.)
Develop training procedures to be used to help train new operators in all aspects of systems operation and maintenance
Perform training, document training records and provide verbal and written feedback
Establish best method practices and document as standardized work instructions
Observes all safety rules and regulations and pro-actively leads safety improvements
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- This position will require occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds and frequent lifting of up to 30 pounds. This position will also require frequent sitting, standing, reaching and climbing. It will also include occasional walking, climbing, crawling and squatting. The physical demands for this job are Light-Medium.

Heat Treated And Brazing Furnace Operator
Overview
Aerojet Rocketdyne is a world-recognized aerospace and defense leader providing propulsion and energetics to its space, missile defense, strategic, tactical missile and armaments customers throughout domestic and international markets.
We are seeking a Heat Treating and Brazing Furnace Operator for our Canoga Park, CA facility to work either the 1st or 2nd shift. This is a Union position.
Set up and operation of Heat treating and controlled atmospheric brazing furnaces to braze rocket engine thrust chambers and other assemblies where vacuum, explosive and/or inert gas atmospheres are used in production.
Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

Plan brazing and/or heat treat operations of developmental, prototype and production assemblies in controlled atmospheric brazing furnaces where explosive and inert gasses are used in the atmospheres.
Set power and temperature controls, gas flow panels and instrumentation for electric or gas fired furnaces. Adjust switches on temperature control instruments for multiple cycle brazing. Load assemblies on furnace base and make hookups of thermocouples and pressure lines as required.
Operate auxiliary power equipment to unload furnaces and cool down with cooling muffles. Perform heat treating and/or brazing operation as required.
Operate furnace to heat treat and/or braze assemblies including leak check and purge, instrumentation, heat-up, braze and cool down. Take action when emergency conditions arise during phases of operations to assure safety of personnel and equipment. Over-ride furnace controls by manual operation when necessary.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of experience in heat treating and brazing operations.
Demonstrated experience working with and around hazardous chemicals including acids.
Must have a proven safety record and experience with PPE used with hazardous chemicals.
Experience handling large (500 lbs +) complex hardware with tooling and other handling devices (ie: pallet jacks, cranes, lifting straps, etc).
Experience reading, comprehending and using planning and drawings to meet required specification requirements.
Experience using measurement instruments to ensure parts are set-up and indicated properly to meet requirements.
Must carry or obtain applicable certifications to work in an environmentally controlled room.
Must pass the written and practical exam required for Heat Treated and Brazing Furnace Operator.
US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
Work Environment and Physical
Requirements:
The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds. Work may require the ability to operate material handling equipment (forklift, crane, hoist, man lift, etc.) in a safe manner.
While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels or with fume or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc. requiring the use of personal protective equipment such as face protection (safety glasses, goggles, face shield), foot protection (i.e. steel toed shoes, rubber boots, etc.), gloves, hard hat, shop coat and hearing protection. Some positions may require Respirator clearance up to and including the Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Level A clearance. Work requires the ability to change into or out of personal protective equipment when entering or exiting manufacturing, laboratory, or other areas.
Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations. Work duties may also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer and/or the ability to travel by air or auto. DPW Heat Office Manager
JOB SUMMARY
The DPW Heavy Equipment and Transportation (HEaT) department supports infrastructure, art, and other heavy equipment and transportation needs at the Burning Man event.
The HEaT Office Manager is responsible for all administrative tasks required by HEaT operations throughout the event production cycle. This includes budget tracking, database management, purchasing and receiving, documentation, and support for crew member needs.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Database Management (40%)
Directly responsible for the accurate collection, organization, and reporting of data depicting all HEaT operations performed throughout the season
Maintains the database and other dispatching tools utilized in the collection of information
Directs the HEaT Dispatch Assistants, ensuring they have a full understanding of the intended methods for capturing appropriate information for each job performed by the department
Sees that machinery and transportation logs are reconciled daily and follows up with equipment operators and drivers as needed to address any discrepancies
Works with other Burning Man departments requiring documentation of services to provide meticulous reporting that satisfies specific interests and expectations
Equipment Receiving and Tracking (10%)
Plans for and oversees the receiving of all equipment supplied by vendors, confirming that details of paperwork are correct, and the condition of vehicles, and machinery meet HEaT expectations
Oversees the accurate recording and tagging of equipment, in order to facilitate reliable job tracking, and to simplify reconciliation of vendor invoicing following the season
Makes available, a summary of equipment put into service, for use by HEaT Dispatch and Operations Managers
Reports any concerns relating to the condition of the equipment to the HEaT Operations Manager in a timely fashion
Staffing (15%)
Updates the HEaT crew roster annually, to include dates of availability, and changes to contact information; informs the HEaT Department Manager of those ready to be contracted
Follows up with staff, as needed, to confirm they have received and signed contract materials prior to beginning work; coordinates with Human Resources to resolve challenges
Maintains and secures current files for all crew members including: certification materials, performance records, and current contact information
Supports crew members at the start of the season and throughout, providing essential resources such as maps, keys, log sheets, radio equipment, etc.
Documentation (15%)
Develops and maintains documentation of departmental methods and protocols
Sees that all department meetings and briefings are recorded and archived, and that minutes are made readily available to staff
Manages organization of shared filing systems and communicates expectations regarding file structure and naming conventions to HEaT staff
Provides record keeping support to the HEaT Operations and Training Manager who oversees the training and certification of equipment operators
Procurement (10%)
Collects requests for items to be purchased, and provides support in researching specific details, costs, and availability
Obtains necessary approvals for purchases; submits clear requests to the Purchasing department; liaises with the Purchasing Buyers, as needed, regarding item specifics and urgency
Records the receipt of purchased items and provides for fast delivery to requestors
Sees that items are coded correctly and monitors spending to prevent unforeseen cost overages
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES (10%)
Assists staff with locating resources for personal needs (Credentialing, OCC Med, Human Resources, Employee Assistance Program, etc.)
Sets up and maintains HEaT administrative workspaces, stocking office supplies and coordinating internet access with the Technology Team
Tracks services requested by the department including, but not limited to: water, sanitation, fuel, ice, and meals
Captures details of decomposed granite deliveries for charge-back to artists
Performs various other duties as assigned by the HEaT Department Manager and the DPW Manager

WORKING CONDITIONS
Off-playa: Work is primarily sedentary in nature, no special demands are required.

Some of the work will be in outside weather conditions and will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles as well as possible extremes in temperature.

Position Summary:
Position is responsible for the set up and operation of 4 heat treat furnaces that are used to support all 4 value streams' parts. Responsible for loading and unloading of components, ensure cycles are run per customer expectations listed on router, monitor and record all data. Operate ultrasonic tanks for parts.
Primary Functions:
Loads parts into racks, close furnace door & insert parts into furnace when specified temperature is reached
Verify the heat treatment cycle is set for correct temperature and time for cooling rate at the end of each operation. Includes thermocouples (hot, cold and control) were within tolerance limits during the cycle
Document all information on the controller charts with heat treat lot number, heat treat specification, date, time, temperature and heat treat operator stamp
Examine parts to ensure metal shade and color conform to specifications, utilizing knowledge of metal heat-treating
Tests parts for hardness, using hardness testing equipment, and stamps heat treatment identification mark on part
Transport work to various areas of the shop. Will use Eaton van to transfer parts. Occasionally drive to vendors.
Verify record is maintained for all parts in each stress relief, anneal, solution treatment, and age load.
Perform and document all daily and weekly functionality checks to verify the proper operation of instrumentation, condition of thermocouples and condition of furnace
Work in accordance with general safety rules and practices.
Will train new and temporary employees on processes
Participate in continuous improvement of processes
Perform other related duties as assigned
Basic Qualification:
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent from accredited institution
3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment

The purpose of the Heat Treat Operator is to support the operations team by ensuring the quality and quantity of product produced in the Heat Treat operation. The Heat Treat Operator will need to complete all inspections, training, and support projects as needed and required. This position will be on 2nd shift.
Essential Functions:
Operate gas and electric furnaces.
Consults processes and procedures for proper recipes, instruction, and tooling to ensure quality product.
Lead / support continuous improvement projects such as productivity gains, downtime improvements, safety improvements, problem solving, etc.
