10%- Assist with irrigation work, digging, grading, drain basin cleaning, concrete repair labor as needed
10%- Perform inspections on mobile equipment and vehicles. Change blades and tires as necessary on mowers, keep some records. Assist with preventative maintenance as required. Work special events (athletic, fraternity, public, etc.) to assist with Jitter control and related cleanup.
5%- Perform related work as assigned
One year of experience in any of the following: farming, the care and maintenance of trees and shrubs, or groundskeeping.
College training will substitute for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience provided that six semester hours of each thirty is in any of the following fields: botany, agriculture, horticulture, floriculture, agronomy, forestry, turf management, landscape management or landscape architecture.
Vocational training in the care and maintenance of trees and shrubs will substitute for the required experience on a month for month basis.

Duties Description Under the supervision of the Park Manager and/or higher-level personnel, the Horticultural Technician 1 will perform a variety of duties relating to the care and maintenance of plantings and vegetation at Gantry Plaza State Park and other state parks in the New York City region.
1.operating in an independent manner, does planting, transplanting, watering, fertilizing, spraying, pruning and trimming of valuable, rare or specialized trees, shrubs, vines and flowers and identifies and supervises or otherwise handles the removal of invasive species;
2.inspects the operating area to identify potential safety hazards, needs for skilled maintenance, landscaping requirements, litter control, refuse removal, etc., report findings to supervisor(s) and/or undertakes corrective action;
